PRODUCTION INFORMATION

Manufacturer: Visanj T’shkali
Affiliation: Closed-Market
Model: Hawkeye Targeting Suite
Modularity: Yes, can be integrated with most currently available starship systems.
Production: Semi-Unique
Material(s): Electronic Components, Segroth Shocksteel

SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Can interface with shipboard sensors and computers to create an accurate and adaptive firing matrix, making real-time adjustments for movement, battlefield debris, atmospheric conditions, etc.
  • Can track up to 20 targets, and when used during atmospheric flight, can allow accurate tracking and target identification through thick cloud cover, storms and heavy rain, fog, night, etc.
  • Paired to sufficiently powerful sensor systems and packages, the range of this targeting suite extends further than many other commercially-available systems, which in turn allows for long-range targeting, missile guidance, and even precision orbital strikes.
  • Prioritizes targets based on target’s aggression, location, situation, and capabilities, as it can ‘diagnose’ a ship’s movements, identify it’s weak points and offensive / defensive capabilities, and even determine an enemy vessel’s situation, e.g. damaged, derelict or adrift, etc. through connection to shipboard sensors and computers.
STRENGTHS:
  • Excellent long-range capabilities, even possible to guide missiles and other warheads to allow precision striking from great distances, including even orbital precision strikes.
  • Multiple target tracking and identification capabilities, which use shipboard sensor packages and computer databases to accurately identify and pinpoint enemy offensive / defensive capabilities, location, even disposition.
  • Allows tracking and targeting – during atmospheric conditions – through inclement weather conditions.
  • With pairing to sufficiently powerful sensor suites, can create a 360-degree battlefield assessment matrix, identifying up to 20 targets and prioritizing them, making real-time adjustments and adaptations; able to guide up to 20 warheads to their targets simultaneously.
WEAKNESSES:
  • Only as good as the sensor systems with which it is paired, the suite cannot do much beyond the capabilities of other shipboard sensors and scanners.
  • Target identification and prioritization depends on shipboard computers’ database of known ships and potential targets; If the computer doesn’t have a file on it, the targeting suite won’t identify it or prioritize it.
  • Priority targeting is automatic and default, and must be intentionally switched off to target out of the default system-recommended order.
  • If all 20 targeting slots are occupied guiding warheads (i.e. missiles or other weapons) the suite is unable to acquire or track another target until one of the present missions is ended (i.e. warhead hits, leaves effective range, or is destroyed).
  • A single Hawkeye suite can manage weapons aboard ships up to 200m (length), however additional suites must be added for every 200m beyond this.
DESCRIPTION

Able to be fully integrated into many starship sensor and computer suites, the Hawkeye Targeting Suite, is a powerful little targeting package that can easily manage the entire weapons package aboard ships up to 200m, while additional targeting suites must be added for every 200m beyond that. Able to use shipboard sensors and computers to create an active, real-time targeting matrix, adjusting fire for changing conditions on the fly, and to track up to 20 targets simultaneously, even guiding warheads for pinpoint strikes over long-distances, the Hawkeye takes the guesswork out of targeting. A Hawkeye suite will work in space or for atmospheric conditions, piercing through inclement weather and cloud cover to determine its targets and track them accurately every time. When paired with a good long-range sensor system, the Hawkeye reaches as far as the sensors do, making it able to allow pinpoint and precision attacks, even orbital precision strikes. (Example: You want to launch a single missile to strike a small enemy outpost from orbit? The Hawkeye can do just that, thereby minimizing collateral damage and civilian casualties while hitting its target from space!)

The Hawkeye also uses shipboard databases to identify targets, taking known weak points, offensive and defensive capabilities, etc. into the equation when compiling a firing matrix, and then prioritizing strikes to eliminate the greatest risks or hit the most available targets first. To enable firing outside of this prioritization schedule, the systems’ automatic prioritization programming must be manually turned off, in which case it will not resume until actively engaged again.

When guiding missiles and other warheads, it can accurately do so for up to 20 targets simultaneously, and will continue to do so until the missile is either destroyed, departs effective range of the sensors, or else strikes its intended target. While this allows a certain ‘fire and forget’ capability, it cannot acquire new targets once it has reached 20 designated fire missions, which makes it unable to acquire new targets, even with shipboard lasers or other similar weapons systems, until space becomes available in the que. Captains must be mindful of this, as launching a volley of twenty missile strikes against twenty separate targets might be great in the case of unopposed orbital combat, it can be dangerous in the midst of a space battle when shipboard weapons cannot respond to attacks because the targeting system is already occupied.
