Intent: To add to the Republic's squad and give them some more toys to help in invasions
Development Thread: Willing to make one
Manufacturer: Praestigiae Shop
Model: GR-19
Affiliation: Galactic Republic
Modularity: Yes it can be painted different colors
Production: Semi Unique (Havoc Squad Snipers)
Material:
  • Durasteel
  • Circuits, electrical components
Description:
Built for surprise and to compliment Havoc Squads assortment of snipers. The rifle is heavy, mounted to a ship and powered to fire energy focused into a tight, narrow ray of concentrated light and heat that travels 299,792,458 metres per second. The rifle has several major drawbacks one being it will lose the element of surprise after one or two shots and requires specialized training to use within the team.

The long charge time and longer cooldown between shots keep it from being fired and taking out entire teams from an effective height of 424 km. The movement of the rifle is severely limited only allowing it to turn ten degrees from its initial location, any further and the ship itself will have to move, the very limited production for Havoc squad means that few ships will actually see it in use.

Strengths:
  • Large Range
  • Has ammo as long as there is ship power

Weaknesses:
  • Long charge time
  • Long cooldown
  • Low area of movement
  • Mounted to a ship
  • Restricted to Havoc Squad

Classification: Orbital Sniper Rifle
Size: Ship Mounted
Length: 2.02m
Weight: 40kg
Ammunition Type: Concentrated laser
Ammunition Capacity: Ship powered with as much ammo as there is power but it has to charge up and cooldown
Effective Range: 424 km
Rate of Fire: Slow (ten second charge to build up, thirty second cooldown)
Special Features: None

Alright, after careful consideration I cannot approve this.

It would be impossible for a human to hit a target from 424 Kilometers out or 200+ Miles with a 10 degree rotation on either side. Consider this, the target could move in that ten second charge up time, then the shot is off and the ship is now exposed. No more surprise element and the weapon and ship would be rendered useless. Additionally, a human being or even a non-human would have to have extensive training to avoid being sick from effects the effects at staring down such a magnified scope and then looking away, back and forth. I also see the potential for this particular item to be abused, unintentionally as there is no clear indication of the power. Utilization of the ships power source as ammo is fine, but it allows for unlimited supply of ammo without overheating. I saw you mentioned not being able to take out entire teams but not individuals. Granted, this is a laser based system but there are variables that an individual must account for.

If you feel I'm wrong, please contest this at the 2nd chance thread.
