Pay no attention to that ejection port!

Description:
The HAS-50 is a large, thoroughly intimidating weapon developed by Shadowline to act as the standard Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW) for House Tregessar Assault Guards and Helldiver forces. Utilizing the Tregessar's familiarity with Shattergun technology to their utmost advantage, Shadowline engineers managed to create a gun that rivals the infamous Omega Pyre Bolter in destructive power and lethality to 'non-conventional forces.'

Mechanically, the HAS-50 is built around the same super-high-velocity design of any shattergun. It differs in the type of chambered round. Whereas a standard shattergun typically fires a very small caliber shell (or rocks, or regular bullets, or anything that can fit in its barrel) the HAS-50 can only fire a specially designed 15mm shell.

In order to accommodate the large caliber, an innovative recoil-compensation is built into the weapon, necessitating it's bulky stock. While the Gyro-Assisted Magnetic Blowback System (GAMBS) is remarkably capable in making the weapon manageable it still generates considerable recoil, especially when fired for prolonged periods of time. Using the weapon like a rifle or from the hip is possible but limits and effective range, and is extremely fatiguing if the user does not fire in short, controlled bursts. Most training and guidance on the weapon emphasizes using the bipod and bracing techniques in order to allow for sustained accurate fire.

To assist with the recoil a simple targeting computer is built in to the weapon. It can operate standalone or be interfaced with armor that allows it, and will utilize all sensors available to it, not just the built in laser sight, motion tracker, and holo-scope.

Ammunition is belt fed from a large 120 box magazine. Typically the gunner will carry three magazines (plus one in the weapon) and a a second trooper will be assigned to carry several more. There are several varieties of 15mm rounds that Shadowline developed. The standard is a simple superdense Duranium-jacketed Turadium penetrator. Highly effective against most infantry armor, light vehicles, personal shields, and lightsabers. It also performs adequately in a marksman role. More specialist rounds are detailed below.

Serrated Fragmentation – Airbursting (SF-AB)
  • Designed for use against soft targets, crowds, and force users, the SF-AB round is a 15mm flechette shell that utilizes a simple targeting device linked with the targeting computer on the HAS-50 to detonate in the air at the computer determined point of max lethality (PML). This can be deceived, but the round will still detonate on impact. Upon detonation mono-edged shards fly out at very high speeds in a cone that extends approximately 30 feet forward and 10 feet across (at maximum width).
High Explosive – Point Detonation (HE-PD)
  • A conventional concussion explosive is contained inside the 15mm shell, designed to explode on impact. Designed for anti-armor and anti-environment work.
Plasma Incendiary – Point Detonation (PI-PD)
  • Often loaded with High Explosive rounds (every fifth round being a PI-PD) these rounds are designed to cause fires and generally cause havoc. Also excellent for clearing hardened structures.
Ion Pulse – Airbursting (IP-AB)
  • Designed for use against heavy shielded targets and droids, Ion Pulse rounds generate a localized ion blast about 6 feet in diameter on impact or detonation. While not individually very powerful, a burst can have cascading effects on most electronic targets.
The weapon is deployed as squad support for both the Helldivers and Assault Guards. For a variety of reasons, it is almost never found in the hands of regular Tregessar Security Forces. As with most of the more specialized equipment produced by Shadowline, House Tregessar is more than willing to expend considerable resources to track down black market sources and copycat production lines of this weapon.

Weapon with Holo-scope and Targeting Computer. Alas, ignore the mini-missiles.
