Nicair Claden
The Iron Heart
The research lab was large for what it is. You know what they say about big labs? Big experiments. Or dangerous ones. Nicair didn't really bother himself with the what or why of the place, simply that a small team of scientists wanted to look around. What did interest him was that the entire facility was underground, a few kilometers even. It was a miracle the elevator down still worked. It was also painfully obvious that there were few in his group that stood a chance should things go wrong. Nicair knew eventually something would, it always went wrong somehow. Cave in, gas leak, rogue defense systems, angry experiments. He'd seen it happen before.
There was one amongst them who walked with a different gait than the others. His steps were measured and confident, back was straight and shoulders were set. He moved like a soldier. Nicair gave him a nod when he was caught analysing, it was returned in a curt fashion. Secret soldier then. Not his problem.
He was told he would be meeting the rest of the escort team shortly ahead, all he had to do was wait. Some of the researches seemed like they'd defecate themselves if something snapped behind them. He had a little fun trying to figure out which ones would find some way to die down there, even if nothing actively tried killing them.
