However, while the implants are capable of scrubbing biological agents the Halcyon commandos weakness to biological attacks tends to leave them unable to function as commandos until the disease is scrubbed from their system.[/SIZE]

  • [SIZE=14pt]Electrical impulses: The myomer strands threaded through the Halcyon Commando’s muscles are immensely vulnerable to electrical based attacks which can flow through the strands, triggering them and causing the commandos to fall into convulsions.[/SIZE]

  • [SIZE=14pt]Degraded immune system: The Osteo augment used to enhance the bones of the candidates has the unfortunate side effect of blocking the marrow, damaging the creation of white blood cells and weakening the immune system of the Commandos. This leaves them very vulnerable to biological attacks. They’re forced to take immune boosters to prevent them from falling ill and being incapacitated by everyday diseases.[/SIZE]

  • [SIZE=14pt]Tech Connection: The cyberlink connection each commando is implanted with allows them to interface directly with technology, but it needs a direct hardline connection, either to their armour, or to the technology in question. [/SIZE]

  • [SIZE=14pt]Cyberattacks/ion blasts: The sheer number of cybernetic augmentations the Halcyon program implants into its candidates leaves them very vulnerable to emps or ion attacks. Their cybernetics are designed to reset and come back online after they deionize, but a focused cyber attack does create a window of vulnerability. [/SIZE]

  • [SIZE=14pt]Oversensitive touch: Due to their more capable nervous system nervous impulses running in both directions are enhanced. While this means the commandos are capable of superior reaction time, the nervous impulses running up to their brain are boosted as well meaning that their senses can be boosted, potentially leading to a sensory overload despite the best training. [SIZE=14pt]The Halcyon program was the product of a deal forged between Locke and Key Mechanics and the Corellian Confederation to create a super soldier program for the rising military power. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=14pt]The Halcyon program is a massive augmentation program, taking almost a year for each soldier to run through the augmentation procedure, using a mixture of genetic, chemical and cybernetic upgrades to push each soldier to the edge of their capabilities and beyond. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=14pt]The entire augmentation starts with a treatment of the [/SIZE][SIZE=14pt]Iounn Retrovirus[/SIZE][SIZE=14pt], the genetically tailored virus has to be developed for each individual, providing a bottleneck which prevents the augmentation procedure from being applied to the totality of Corellia’s armed forces. The Iounn Retrovirus requires a blood sample to be taken from each individual, a sample which can be run through the lab to create a virus which is genetically tailored for that specific individual and no other. Once the virus is ready a Halcyon candidate is put into a medical coma before the virus is delivered to their bodies by an IV drip, rebuilding the candidate’s bodies over the course of 6 months. Alone the retrovirus was just responsible for cleaning up a candidate’s genetic code, remaking them into the very best specimen they could be. The Iounn Retrovirus included enhancements such as more capable, thicker myelin sheaths and nerves along with a natural enhancement to the very peak of their species capabilities. Upon waking the soldiers were forced to take neural suppressors to slow the superior reactions caused by the virus, and the increased sensitivity that came with it until they were more used to it.[/SIZE]

[SIZE=14pt]While they were unconscious candidates also underwent their first round of surgeries, various medical sensor implants being distributed around their bodies along with the Osteo Augment, strengthening the candidates bone structure.; While this did result in candidates waking from their comas feeling heavier then before, their newly enhanced muscles allowed them to retain most of their previous movement. The benefit of the augment would come later in the program as their bodies were able to take more punishment, and support more mass without problems, as well as providing their muscles with a stronger frame to work off. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=14pt]Shortly before they were woken from their comas the candidates were put into the final round of surgeries for phase one of the Halcyon program, the neural implants. Central to this series of implants was the [/SIZE][SIZE=14pt]Cyberlink[/SIZE][SIZE=14pt], a interface implant which allowed the candidates to connect with technology directly. The other neural implants included a miniaturized [/SIZE][SIZE=14pt]communications device[/SIZE][SIZE=14pt] and a internal specialised [/SIZE][SIZE=14pt]cyber assistant[/SIZE][SIZE=14pt]. The cyber assistant was critical in that it provided internalized support, monitoring and allowing the Halcyon Candidates the ability to control the technology within their bodies, and outside of it. These implants were further augmented by a combat implant capable of providing data on weapon specifications and usage, along with troop numbers and status battle information. Combined with the Navi assistant the combat implant allowed the Halcyon candidates a superior ability to analyse the battlefield they found themselves in, and a better understanding of their equipment and capabilities and those o their enemies and allies. The entire neural interface was contained in a [/SIZE][SIZE=14pt]biocomputer [/SIZE][SIZE=14pt]which gave it some protection from EMP/Ion attacks and gave it the processing power capable of hosting a full AI if necessary. The biocomputers were also loaded with Locke and Key’s [/SIZE][SIZE=14pt]Padlocke[/SIZE][SIZE=14pt] system to defend against cyber intrusions. The neural implants were finalised with a [/SIZE][SIZE=14pt]Lornal Implant[/SIZE][SIZE=14pt], preventing electrical attacks from short-circuiting the electronics or incapacitating one of the Haclyon candidates.[/SIZE]

[SIZE=14pt]The first section of phase two of the augmentation process was one of training and careful nursing, no matter if candidates had chosen to become commandos or not, they had to be taught how to use the new functionality they had received as they worked their way upto health. While the Iounn Retrovirus did have the benefit of making each individual the best they could be, that’s all it did. Even with the best medical sciences, being in a coma for 6 months was bound to lead to a deterioration of muscles and joints that required a careful physiotherapy treatment to come back from. It was here the differences between those candidates choosing to leave the program and those carrying on became obvious. While the candidates choosing to leave would work through a physio program to bring them back to normal the same wasn’t true of the Commandos. Instead, they would work to a level above their previous fitness thanks to a mixture of an exercise program and regular doses of a Growth Hormone. The growth hormone stimulates the development of muscles allowing the Commandos to bulk up quickly to a level greater than a normal human, which combined with the more efficient muscles they had as a result of the Iounn Retrovirus left them faster and stronger than anyone would expect them to be. Left them healthier than anyone would expect. Just in time for the next stage of surgeries and cybernetics. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=14pt]Once they had recovered sufficiently and put back on muscle mass the Commandos underwent another series of surgeries designed to further enhance their capabilities. Their muscles were threaded through with strands of [/SIZE][SIZE=14pt]Myomer[/SIZE][SIZE=14pt], the artificial threads providing them muscles with increased power, allowing the Commandos to hit even harder and move even faster. During this operation, the Commandos could elect what they wanted to do with their eyes, choosing out of three options. Some chose to replace their eyes entirely with cybernetics, most chose to have an artificial lens implanted in their eyes that would constantly give them full access to the AR overlay and capabilities of the [/SIZE][SIZE=14pt]Cyber-Eye Contact Lenses[/SIZE][SIZE=14pt], while others chose to just use the Contact lenses themselves. The commandos were also implanted with an [/SIZE][SIZE=14pt]advanced sensory implant[/SIZE][SIZE=14pt], allowing them to increase their perception of their surroundings, and process the data faster letting them react to changes in their surroundings significantly faster than a normal human. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=14pt]The final implants the Commandos are augmented with as part of their phase 2 augmentations are another series of implants designed to enhance the reaction time of the Halcyon Commandos. This was a two-part upgrade, and upgrade to the commando’s nervous system coupled with a series of adrenal boosters. The team at Locke and Key mechanics went back to historical archives where they discovered a pair of systems they could develop. The first was a [/SIZE][SIZE=14pt]Cyber Reaction System[/SIZE][SIZE=14pt], the [/SIZE][SIZE=14pt]Bavakar reflex enhancement[/SIZE][SIZE=14pt], the implants using energy bursts and stimulants to increase the speed at which nerve impulses travelled up and down the user’s nervous system increasing both reaction time and fine motor control. These enhancements also had a second function, that of slowing down the Halcyon Commandos. With their improved bodies and drugs, the commandos were capable of operating significantly faster than a normal organic, and the other enhancements they received made them even more capable. However, spending their lives in a perpetual state of faster reflexes proved to be psychologically untenable. Instead, the enhancements could slow the Halcyon commandos down until they needed the enhanced reaction time when it could ratchet it up. This, however, relied heavily upon the cybernetics and bio-computers within their bodies to manage to time. A side effect of this was increased sensitivity, while their reactions were turned up to base or enhanced the commandos also had an increased sensitivity to stimuli, touch, taste and smell. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=14pt]The speed of reaction time this system acted at could be managed by the internal computational implants allowing the Halcyon commandos to turn up their reactions as needed when the situation warranted it. However, although the enhancements to their body and their nervous system allowed the commandos to react faster than any unagumented sentient, all the reaction time in the world meant nothing if you weren’t able to utilise it. Even if you were capable of dodging a blaster, you needed to be able to plan and execute a counterattack as well, and that’s where the second of the implants, the [/SIZE][SIZE=14pt]Bavakar Memory chip[/SIZE][SIZE=14pt] came in. The Bavakar Memory chip released a synthetic mixture of drugs into the Commando’s system designed to make them think faster, allowing them the opportunity to react to threats and formulate plans and strategies which could be put into action in the faster times their enhanced bodies were capable of. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=14pt]The remainder of the time spent in phase two was spent training the commandos to understand and utilise their new abilities. By this time, the commandos had received almost all of their augmentations, and it was now that they returned to their military training, focusing on the individual and small unit tactics they would need to thrive in their new roles. [SIZE=18pt]Phase 3[/SIZE]

[SIZE=14pt]An engineer at Locke and Key Mechanics likened the final phase of the augmentation process to the polishing and finishing a sword underwent. The Halcyon commandos had been forged into weapons, but now they just needed that final polish that would sharpen them and would provide them with the durability they would need when they were finally deployed into the field. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=14pt]The first of these health boosters was an Advanced Bio-stabilizer, a more capable version of the Bio stabalizer that scans the user's body for undesirable or toxic elements, syphoning them out of the user's body. In this way the commandos are able to fight longer and harder than your average soldier, the implant cleaning their blood of lactic acid and other naturally produced harmful chemicals, as well as foreign poisons and toxins. [SIZE=14pt]The Halcyon commandos were finally implanted with Adrenal implants, designed to increase the production of epinephrine in the body, allowing the body to better handle stress and combat situations and injuries. However, the heightened fight or flight response which results from this requires a high level of training to avoid, or a commando risks being overwhelmed by the urge to flee. [/SIZE]
[SIZE=14pt]The final implant received is an old piece of technology that the archivists at Locke and Key found trawling around the holonet. [/SIZE][SIZE=14pt]Smartblood[/SIZE][SIZE=14pt]. The smartblood had increased oxygen transmission and coagulation properties, allowing the commandos to work harder and fight longer, despite injuries.[/SIZE]
