Description: The Gypsymoth has been Jorus Merrill's home for dozens of battles and blockade runs. A well-preserved and well-maintained YV-929, its original manufacture date is unknown; it might be a replica, the result of a CEC reboot production run, or an original YV-929 from before the Darkness. Its components have been replaced, repaired and recycled so many times that even Jorus has no idea where the ship came from originally. In true tramp-freighter style, it came into his possession during a sabacc game. He adopted it as his home and base of operations, and has spent many years fixing, upgrading and otherwise tweaking the vessel.

The Gypsymoth saw extensive service as a smuggling ship and supply vessel during Jorus's time with assorted rebel and insurgent groups in the Outer Rim. Its engines were thoroughly overhauled by his rebel associates, in order for the ship to serve as an evacuation and medevac transport. During this period, two of the assault concussion missile launchers were stripped out in order to bolster the armaments of other rebel ships. The main guns were slaved to the helm; although weapons performance and accuracy improve when gunner positions are fully staffed, Jorus can fully utilize all the Gypsymoth's weapons from the helm, except for the dual ion cannon turret. When no gunner is available, the turret can be locked into forward-fire position. The triple-blasters were given autoblaster targeting capabilities, allowing them to serve as anti-infantry weapons and, in a pinch, half-decent point defense guns. The hyperdrive was replaced with a military-grade Class One unit.

The ship has hosted a number of crewers in the past. @Sarge Potteigerhttp://starwarsrp.net/user/163-sarge-potteiger/ has been known to serve as copilot and gunner, as has @Chloe Blakehttp://starwarsrp.net/user/583-chloe-blake/. The baby Mara Merrill is a frequent resident. The tiny @Miktik sometimes serves as the vessel's mechanic.

Gypsymoth's strangest upgrade, without question, transpired during Jorus's time with Omega Pyre and the ODF. The Pyre had been decommissioning old armament designs, one of which was a high-concept but unsuccessful battle walker called the Wolverine. Its land speed was exceptionally low, and the design was otherwise unimpressive, but a certain number of Wolverines boasted a double-blind hibridium cloaking device. Jorus sought and received permission from his superiors to upgrade the Gypsymoth from Omega Pyre's decommissioning yards. Alongside Chloe Blake, Jorus cracked open several Wolverine battle walkers and salvaged their cloaking devices. Through much trial and error, and Chloe's procurement of the Wolverine's official schematics, Jorus was able to make a cloaking device work while mated with the Gypsymoth's systems.

Numerous technical challenges presented themselves. The power sacrificed during operation is partially covered by the two removed assault concussion missile launchers, but significant power redistribution is still required in order to operate the cloaking device. As the walker in question was considerably smaller than the Gypsymoth, itself a modestly scaled tramp freighter, Jorus managed full inclusion within the cloaking field by linking four of the small cloaking generators together so as to slightly overlap their effect radii. However, the cloaking devices require a great deal of maintenance. When one fails, which is fairly often, a portion of the ship becomes detectable, often reading as a partially-powered derelict or simply a smaller vessel.
