SPECIAL FEATURES
Strengths:
• Many warheads. So many.
• SLAM offers bursts of extreme speed.
• Can disrupt target locks from a single enemy subcapital ship.
• Can target up to four vessels at once.
Weaknesses:
• Depletion. Once warheads are exhausted, the missile boat has only a single laser cannon. Pilots tend to name their missile boats after ex-boyfriends due to its lack of stamina.
• Sitting duck. Once warheads are exhausted, the missile boat is almost always forced to return to hangar, jump to hyperspace, or hold still for a lengthy rearming by a specialized tender vehicle.
• Sympathetic detonation. This ship carries many, many warheads in two port and two starboard magazines. A laser blast to the wrong bit of hull can detonate one or both magazines on that side. Emergency force fields and targeted structural reinforcements can save the bulk of the ship with reasonable reliability, but at that point it’s lost half its warhead capacity and is probably torn up.
• Extremely reduced squadron count. A flight of missile boats requires quite a bit of hangar space to repair and rearm.
• Winded. Sustained use of the SLAM depletes laser cannon charge, which takes about a minute to refresh.
• Eggshell. The missile boat has strong shields, but its hull is pretty darn fragile. If a pilot risks shunting all shield power to engines, the missile boat can achieve blistering speed, but a couple of laser cannon shots will turn the ship into a fireball.
• Slow hyperdrive. Although the missile boat is hypercapable and has its own navicomputer, its Class Six drive - equivalent to the original vessel - is suitable only for short or time-consuming jumps. At sector-level ranges or longer, the missile boat relies on carrier ships.
• Momentum. If you run into another ship at four hundred MGLT, there won’t be much left of you but a smear.
DESCRIPTION
Some old ships can’t be matched; some technology is lost to time forever. Such is the case with the Cygnus Spaceworks missile boat. Designed by Grand Admiral Thrawn to kill TIE Defenders, the Missile Boat may be the most lethal starfighter ever created - extreme weapons, extreme speed, above-average maneuverability, and powerful shields. The modern incarnation of Cygnus, in cooperation with Silk Holdings’ elite starfighter design teams, has done its level best to bring back the missile boat’s lost technology - with limited success. They were unable to match the original ship’s blistering speed or staggering warhead capacity, and had to make modest sacrifices around maneuverability and shield strength. The new version is very, very good at what it does, but it’s not Thrawn levels of good.

That said, the combined design team was able to make a few small improvements. The original boat mounted either a jamming beam or a small tractor beam; this version has both. The new ship is also capable of deploying a much wider range of warheads from its multipurpose bays, and targeting multiple contacts simultaneously.

The new GX-1 is named for Maarek Stele, the Emperor’s Hand who was the original ship’s most legendary pilot.
