- The venerable battle rifle of the underdog, scaled up to Grigory proportions.
- Beeg boolet- The AK-141 fires a massive projectile that hits like a freight train
- Strong, like the will of the people- By necessity, the AK-141 is constructed out of durable materials. Though the grip and heat shield are traditional wood, the barrel and front trunnion are heavy beskar, while the receiver is thick stamped durasteel. In other words, she makes for one hell of a club.
- Heavy, like good borscht- Though the AK-141's dimensions are scaled up by 3, the weight increase is closed to 5 times the standard. She's a big girl, even for a genetically modified bear.
- What are you aiming at, comrade?- The combination of the inherent inaccuracy of the platform, coupled with the tremendous recoil, means that controlled, accurate fire is impossible. A single, aimed shot can probably hit somewhere within the vicinity of a man-sized target at 200 meters, which is pathetic considering the size and power of the round, and automatic fire is more a matter of accuracy through volume. Shoot enough bullets, and one of them might, eventually, hit.
There are some firearm designs that are so intuitive that they've arisen independently on a thousand different planets over the course of history. The long-stroke gas piston rifle is notorious for being easy to get right and hard to screw up. Even in the age of blasters, it's still not uncommon to find conscripts on backwater worlds wielding rifles that all look remarkably similar, despite having been created in a vacuum.
The AK-141 takes the most common variant of this theme and scales it up for use by a giant, sapient bear. It's three times longer, broader, and thicker than the normal version, and shoots a cartridge that's three times the size as well: the 22.86x117mm Nesti, or Bear. The magazines still hold 30 rounds, and on automatic fire, you can still expect a rate of about 500-700 rounds per minute, depending on the gas settings. This is not a rifle that's prone to malfunction, even under the roughest of conditions, and is sturdy enough to make a good club if it somehow jams, or runs out of bullets.
The downsides to taking a normal rifle and scaling it up are not insignificant, however. The platform is already known for being hard-recoiling, thanks to the beefy cartridge and the heavy reciprocating mass of the bolt. The AK-141 is somehow even worse. The iron sights could charitably be described as "adequate for use by untrained conscripts", and being a bear and therefore shortsighted, Grigory can't see them worth a damn anyway. If he tries really hard, he might be able to kick dirt up near the target at 200 meters. Anything beyond that is a literal shot in the dark. On top of everything else, thanks to the thick construction of the barrel and trunnions, the AK-141 is actually 5 times heavier than its little cousins, and is a real bear to swing around.
