Going on A dragon hunt

Location: Seltos

It had been a long time since she had seen her master and well when she returned to the jedi order the padawan had made a point to try and find a way to reapproach her. She had vanished and abandoned her master as opposed to what usually happened and gotten herself into a pickle while she was moving within the game preserve. She had been practicing the moves the jedi knight Siegfried had taught her with the shiled while she held the training blade and moved around. She had sent the message and been very clear as opposed to vague, she didn't want her master thinking it was a trap to try and lure her in with all the turmoil within the republic. She could be an endangered target for trying to destabilize the order in lieu of the republic being overtaken. Sitting there on a rock the padawan sat with her robe over the armor and held the ballistic shield on her arm.

Corvus didn’t know much about Seltos. It was of course a planet in the Mid Rim. Its Sommin City was home to the largest Tarro remnant. Its primary industries included agriculture, lumber production, and mining of valuable ores. Visitors to Seltos' nature preserves provided a small boost to the economy as well. Natives of Seltos were considered congenial and pleasant.

Which is what the guide-book tells you.

History had seen its leaning as pro-Republic — but it had known times as part of the Empire too.

It would forever be remembered by Corvus as the place she re-met her Padawan Elphaba. She was a healer by choice and Corvus had presumed she’d been spending time with the Jedi whose specialism this was. Elphaba was a feisty one and somewhat independent. Corvus didn’t worry that they hadn’t been in contact.

But then she was surprised and entirely pleased that she’d been asked to meet her again. So Corvus set her ship down at the appointed location and saw Elphaba sitting on a rock. Looking entirely more like a warrior than the healer she remembered.

Moving through the port of the world to meet her old master the padawan stood a little taller once she saw her master. her training and work with healers like Feena and the holocron from Kuro were something of a great way to work things out before she spoke. "Master." The calm and cool demeanor were broken somewhat.... mostly in terms of being a stoic jedi not showing emotion as she surged forward all excited with her arms opened while the muscled padawan moved to grab her master and squeeze her in a friendly embrace and lung crushing proportions before jerking back and forth before releasing. That was if she didn't move, either way she was excited.

“Elphaba,” Corvus said, as the air was squeezed out of her. “You seem different. More…guardian and less…healer."

“Not a bad thing, by the way,” she added, by way of explanation. “Just an observation. So…what have you been up to?”

Looking at her master as she set her down while shifting to take in her look. "Ehhh no still the same just someone wise pointed out a healer who couldn't defend themselves wouldn't last long." She had been workign with Feena who had taught her a lot and pointed out the danger of being just one thing and surrounded by enemies. So work ro protect herself while she was looking at her master and offered a grin. "I've also just been exploring while working in some of the older temples instead of just sitting on my butt waiting. We got some cool stuff out there on the outer rim I never even realized."

[member="Elphaba nic Arose"]

Corvus nodded. "Talking of the Outer Rim, have you been to Lothal? A most interesting planet." She looked around, "And tell me, you didn't pick here to meet just because of the views. There must be a reason. Something to fight? Something to throw at me?" She smiled. "So what is it? Training, a mission? Or something else?"

She looked at her with a grin and a nod of her head. "I have been to Lothal, master Siegfried was training me in blade and shield techniques but really I wanted to rejoin you. You were just a newly appointed knight and now you are the grandmaster." She was impressed and hoped to resume training as needed as opposed to waiting for another master to be willing to take her own. She could prove far more useful now then she had before and there was the added benefit she had been taught by one of the best healers in the galaxy. Feena Mason. That made her abilities go ahead by leaps and bounds compared t some of the ones she had seen. "Seltos though is a great place to get phrik for projects."

Corvus listened and nodded. She was clearly pleased that Elphaba had continued her training and hadn’t simply waited to be picked up by a new Master. “Siegfried was one of my Padawans too you know,” she said.

And then she listened to the reason they were here.

“Phrik?” Corvus smiled, despite the questioning in her voice. “Everyone knows everything about everything except me. So…Phrik? It’s uses are?”

She was looking at her master and that small revelation about Seigfried was something cool. It meant more now while she gave a nod of her head while walking. "Phrik is good for armor and shields to deflect lightsabers. It is also very lightweight." She had a look on her face though while she put her hands on her hips and her training blade was on her hip. The shield at her back before she was walking. "And well there is always things you can make with it. I know a jedi who made a very protected transport to save people and some others made hair pins." Those had been funny to see while she prepared herself and looked around. "So master, what new has been happening with you? I know last time you were just getting your footing as a knight."

Corvus listened and nodded. Jedi often underestimated the truth that the Master-Padawan relationship was a two-way thing. Corvus was always open to learning and appreciated it when others took the time to teach her.

"Phrik. Armour and shields. Light-weight. Right." Given she eschewed armour personally, she underestimated such things, so made sure those around her considered such options, to allow the Jedi choices. There was never one prescriptive option.

"And hair pins? Fair enough." She smiled, unsure if this was a joke or not. But given the ingenuity of Jedi, probably not. "We have both travelled along our respective paths since we last met, that's for sure. I was asked to head up the Academy on Ossus - which we have now sadly lost. But at last the Silver Jedi can make use of it."

"And I suspect I have spent most of my time teaching. At Ossus primarily. Then came the call to join the Council, when Kiskla was captured. And then my peers asked me to become Grand Master." She shrugged. It seemed trite to condense those years into a few sentences, but it summed up her journey perfectly.

"So, we've both been busy, eh?"

Looking at her master the girl gave a nod of her head. They had indeed been busy, her usually traveling around the back planets where a jedi wasn't always stationed and Corvus accelerating her position within the jedi which wasn't bad it helped a great deal in getting things done for people while she kept walking and popped her neck. "I have been able to get plenty from the silvers or at least some of their stuff. Their jedi researchers have rooms in the backs of their shops for jedi who are traveling as well as provide better supplies at times with little to no cost. Why the order exiled most of them I am not certain." She was looking towards the tall grass in the game preserve while moving in ready for anything.

Corvus listened. Wherever possible she had avoided politics — she was a Jedi after all — but Jedi politics? She had no time for that. But even she had been embroiled in debates about ownership of Holocrons in the past, but had finally put all of that behind her.

They are Jedi. Pure and simple. Different colour cloaks and a variety of locations and often slight variances of approach to the Code. But since that was prevalent even within the Jedi Order, who was she to judge?

So she nodded and listened to her Padawan’s stories and finally followed her gaze.

“You look as though we should be expecting something.” There was a curl at the corner of her lips.

"We should always be prepared, the game preserve here sometimes has dangerous creatures to attract people and they can get into the mines. I know some of the Satochi groups hunters had been called out here to relocate or put down the animals if they have to." She had a smile though on her face as she was walking through some of the grass pointing towards the mountains framing most of the preserve. "Tourist attractions are a great thing but sometimes people get bored and danger attracts new people... but it is open and they don't really try to restrain the animals in cages." She was pointing down while she tok some of the jerky in her pouch and ate a few pieces.

Corvus followed Elphaba as she moved into the long grass. Sadly killing attracted people, as did danger. It was invariably a recipe for disaster – but people, it seemed, never learned.

“So…phrik? Is it mined? And if so, do we have the right equipment?” Corvus was learning so much of late and technically information outside of a Jedi’s usual comfort zone. Which she found rather stimulating.

"Yes and yes, there is a hydrocuter we can use to cut the rock at the mine Sasori has on the planet. Not large but they have made some fun things with their pieces." She was looking through the grass and squinting just a little for there to be things in the distance as some of the puffer pigs were there with her looking at them. "Careful, have you ever seen them when they get scared?" It wasn't dangerous but they were hilarious and like a balloon at a party if you wanted to have a couple. It did nothing to say though how useful they could be as she crouched lower in the grass. The padawan was having some fun while expanding her senses outwards.

A few short weeks ago, if a Padawan had asked what Corvus did, she would have said teach, attend meetings and oppose the Sith however she could.

Nowadays she would have to add explorer and miner to the list.

Corvus shook her head at the mention of puffer pigs. In her experience, many innocuous animals were far more challenging when scared.

Corvus crouched down with Elphaba and finally whispered. “What are we doing? Waiting for the puffer pigs to pass? I was wondering, we could take it as an opportunity to learn Beast Control?”

She looked at her master and the idea of practicing the force technique was tempting to her as she gave a nod. "Alright but we should not have all of them around they are very skittish." Her attention was on some of the things though while reaching out and pointing to the smaller ones near the back. Not wanting to disturb the ones in the front into puffing up and bouncing away. Oh yes she had seen a couple of them do that before and while funny it was really hard to keep all of them in one place if they got scared as the padawan breathed in and out. "Alright master I am ready to begin, how do I do the technique?"

There was always something satisfying about learning on the fly. It was often more natural and away from the formal learning environment, a lot of Jedi responded better. There appeared to be less pressure.

”I always recommend starting in the same way. Meditate. Connect with the Force. Then, follow that connection to one of the animals. If that does not present itself to you as an obvious path, search for strong emotions. Hunger, fear…the chances are it belongs to one of the creatures. Follow that emotion back to the pig.”

The jedi padawan nodded while she was crouching down and focusing on the smallest one and the force energies within. She closed her eyes and reached out with the force listening to her master so that she could build her energies and self up into something far superior and stronger. She reached out into the open area with the force to connect with the creature before she was letting her breath out with a nod of her head. She could feel the mind, it was just like mind tricking a patient to ease their pain so they would stop screaming and moving around hurting themselves more. SHe had a small grasp upon it while breathing out a sign of relief.

"Now a human brain, or a sentient at least, is about a range of things. Emotions, memories, thoughts. You can plant ideas, read facts, pretty much anything. Except, of course the mind has its own defences and we must be gentle and caring."

"Animals are more about emotions. Simple thoughts or images can work too. Send the impulse of being tired. See how the creature reacts."
