Gateway of darkness

Lirra, Swamp Region

Werah was on his way to meet a man who had offered to teach him the ways of the force. The dark side of the force, to be precise. Werah hoped it would be worth it, as he trudged through the muddy terrain. The man, had agreed to meet him here, of all places, but Werah understood the need for privacy. He looked around, half-expecting a person to jump out from behind a tree.Werah closed his eyes, searching for anothe presence. He felt the minds of the Grenon's, toiling beneath the murky lakes. Werah was tempted to dive in, observing the Grenon's was a personal hobby of his. Still, he dismissed the idea, and continued searching the force. Suddenly, he felt a presence approaching. He had arrived...

Solan had to wonder why he visited swamps so often lately. It was like they were his best friend or something that he had to see every week or else he would kill over and grow to rot away. But his reasoning for being out here was a sound one if anything. His eyes scanned over the trees and more importantly mud that covered the area with a sigh before sitting down and knowing Werah was close enough for him to see if the man could find Solan without him standing out in the open. It was a small test, ut one that told alot about someone and their prior training.

All the while, solan would focus is mind on the force. He would look for shifts in it and how Werah drew in the force at his current state. It was important that solan knew the extent of the man's training before finishing his work or even beginning it as it was important he understood what the man had sought before him. It was an odd thought and one most didn't think to focus on, but whoever came before Solan would have left their mark. It was time he figured out if he had to replace that mark or if he could just expand on it.

Werah waited for the man to appear, but he did not. Werah could feel a presence behind a tree, waiting, perhaps sitting. Werah considered calling to him, but decided that he would it in the force, rather than verbally. "Hello.", said Werah, though his mouth stayed closed. His words traveled along the wavelength of the force, making their way to the man nearby. Werah hoped he had heard him, as he still needed much practice before he could master telepathy. The man emerged, and Werah bowed in greeting. The man looked rather normal, an average human, but he felt a sense of power in the force, and knew the man was not your average human...

"Hey back, though i must say, i expected you to show first rather than me approaching you." He smiled and dropped to the ground once more, letting the Ashlan Wolf that was his companion leave his shoulder and move into the brush to act as lookout. The last thing Solan needed was to be found with a man he wasn't quite sure he could trust yet. If anything he wondered for a short time if the former Trade union leader would attack him, or if there was some ambush in waiting. But there really was little reason for that, which is why he had agreed to meet on Lirra rather than Kesh. "Now lets see, do you have any tea leaves? I didn't get to bring anything myself and all i have is the fire, much less the leaves to boil in the water."

Solan was a strange one. And in no way an average human, even if he were that. Technically, he would classify as near human, Vahlan mostly, but with a touch of Kiffar and Miralukan as well. Hell that touch of Miralukan was why he had reading glasses on him at all times incase his eyes started to act up because of the deficiency to his eyesight... granted atleast he wasn't blind and even had eyes in the first place. His mother had been born with eyes herself, but was blind from birth and took to her parent's practice of seeing with the force, something she had passed on to Solan before her death.

"So, tell me your name, and why me?"

"My name is Werah Unon. I used to be a general, in the Union, but those days have past. Now I simply want to learn the ways of the force. Werah smiled, though his mask covered it. He then waved his hand, and a few leaves broke away from a small bush, and flew into Werah's hand. "I am told these leaves make excellent tea", said Werah, handing them to the person. Of course, Werah had not tried himself, as drinking was rather hard with his mask on. Only in the sealed and pressurised rooms of his home on Lirra, could Werah remove his mask, and until then, he would simply have to survive on the nutrient network in his suit. "And what is your name?", Werah inquired...

"I am Solan Charr, a simple master of the Force and nothing more than that. You are an interesting individual if you do not mind me telling you, one i am certain will provide for a curious enough time for us both." e smiled and let the leaves move into his hand, drawing from what he had brought with him a small pot and letting it rest hanging from a limb. Once done he filled it with water, careful to make sure it did not fall from its perch and once done he would let his hand generate the heat below it, a small flame sparking under the pot.

"So now that you have my name and I yours, do tell me more about what it is that you seek this power for that i am offering you. And why it is that you want this power so bad. If you lie to me, i can assure you that i will know and that i will ensure that you pay for attempting to deceive me. Are we clear?" Solan let his eyes travel from the flame under the pot to Werah, that flame starting to grow ever so slightly and spark off from its body towards Solan's hand near it, gathering in a trail around his hand though not taking shape.

"I am on a quest, to understand the mysteries of the force. To do so, I must learn to master its many forms. The teachings that you can offer me are hard to come by, and so you provide a unique opportunity to help me understand the force.", said Werah. Werah noticed Solan's control of fire, a powerful skill indeed. "I had been studying the holocrons of the TU, but much knowledge has been lost in the fighting." Werah looked down angrily, remembering the explosions that had wiped out centuries of knowledge. "Now, I must continue my search for knowledge by myself. That is why I wish to learn from you."

"There are Sith, and Jedi, who are far stronger and wiser than me, Dark Jedi who are far more experienced than me in the ways of the Force. And more importantly are far more suitable teachers if it is revenge you seek for the knowledge that you had lost Former Union member. Why is it that you assume i can be a better... no more appropriate teacher than those others who would bring you to heights of power that would grant you anything, albeit at a price. Yet by the time that price took hold, you would have anything you desired." He didn't glance, turn his head, or give any notification that his focus was anywhere but on the pot infront of him, the fire still moving around his arm as he let it boil the water and heat the leaves within slowly.

"I have spent time with the Sith before. They are powerful indeed, but I do not agree with their philosophies. Power isn't everything. Some skills, do not make you stronger. Simply knowing them, could make you insane. The Sith want power: I want knowledge." Werah looked over to Solan, and continued, "The Jedi are idiots. They have some good ideas, but their vision is too narrow. They don't understand that the force doesn't necessarily need to have two sides. Only in balance, can true secrets be found." Werah looked over to the fire twisting around the man's arm, and spoke again. "At first, I strove to only learn techniques that were truly neutral. Now, I realise, that to be in the middle, there has to be two sides. I must learn the ways of dark and light, before I can master the balance". "I chose to learn from you, because...as you said, "I am a simple master of the force, and nothing else." Werah looked back at Solan. "I wish to learn without bias, without interference. I don't want to follow some doctrine, or have attempts to convert me to a different set of ideals. I wish to learn the force, in its truest, and simplest form. I believe, that you could teach me."

Solan laughed. It was the only reaction his mind could conjure up as he sat down in that dark recess of the galaxy. "You sure do have a silvered tongue, i bet it was part of working for the Union that helped develop such a dangerous weapon Words are the weapons of gentlemen and officers, a weapon that can incite war or genocide. It can breed hate, anger, fear, love, passion, and a multitude of many other things that i could not begin to describe. But you use it in such a way that i must say takes practice, it was almost as if you studied me before meeting me but you have yet to actually tell me why. There are many ways to power, through the force is one, yes, but there are others. I could go into a market tomorrow and sell something to by myself an army. It is improbable but my point remains, you have yet to tell me why the force, why you require it. You preach having your own reason, you preach wanting to follow and learn it without bias. I am sure your intentions are strong and good, but you are not...you are not telling me why you want to do this. What is so important that you search the force for a way to ensure that this never occurs on your watch?"

"I want to learn for the sake of learning. I wish to discover the secrets of the force. How do all these different powers come from one thing? I have no responsibilities now that the TU has fallen. I have set myself a new goal: to learn the mysteries of the force." Werah held out his hand, and a rock flew into it. "We know that we can do this", he said pointing to the rock, "but how?" Werah put the rock down. "I wish to travel a new path. Before, my goal was power, money, and promotion. Now, my goal is to find out the secrets of the force." "If I succeeded this goal, and learnt all these powers, I would simply try and teach them to others, not use them for personal gain." Werah rememberd the other question proposed to him, and grinned. "Of course, I do know a little about you; I don't like meeting strangers alone in a swamp, without knowing a thing about them. Surely you understand?"

Solan had heard this all before but to tell the truth it was interesting to hear it from someone's mouth other than the certain Echani who had left it for him in the way of documents and holofiles. That Echani had given him a headaches worth of knowledge that followed that same thinking and as Solan thought about it, something came to mind. And as he thought about it, the last line spoken by the man made Solan raise a brow and grin before dropping his thoughts completely to focus on this man. "Oh really now? Do tell me what this research of yours has told you about me. I want to hear every word of it and see how well you understand about me... Im more than curious to hear what it is about this all that you have heard when it concerns me..."

"As you wish: I learnt you are a master of the force, the dark side to be precise. I heard you had an especially strong connection to the force, and that you had a particular affinity for fire.", Werah continued, "That is all. A few pieces of knowledge, but not that hard to come by." "I couldn't say I understand you, I just know a few small facts." Werah flipped a pebble into the air, and it hovered above his hand, spinning. "So, will you train me?"

Solan closed his eyes as he thought to himself about the question that had been posed. Would he accept this man as a student or did these feelings he have mean that the Force was telling him to not do it. He had to sit and think, to study the man before him with careful consideration for every single fact that came to his mind and to his eyes when he looked at this man. There were several thoughts that rose up but in the end his hand closed and the fire cut out, the other reaching to grab the pot's handle so that he can poor the tea into a cup he had.

"You are an enigma to me. A strange feeling that if i train you, i wont know or understand just how things have fallen out of grace. But i feel as though you speak with some level of truth behind your words so i will be welcome to teaching you." He smiled to the man as he poor the tea into a cup, waiting for it to fill before placing the pot back on the branch.

"Well, that's a good start", said Werah, grateful that the man had agreed to train him, though he did not show it. "So, that...thing...you did with the fire, how does that work?", Werah asked, curious. Suddenly, the ground erupted, and a huge creature appeared. It looked like a deformed Grenon, only much, much bigger. It was dripping with mud, and looking at Werah with bright golden eyes. Werah tried to draw his lightsaber, but as he did so, he felt an extreme pounding in his head, and collapsed to the ground in pain. The creature turned its gaze to Solan, and Werah felt the pressure fade. He tried to think of what the creature was, but he had never heard of anything like it. Oh well, he thought. His first lesson would have to be more hands-on, it seemed...

Solan didn't answer, the creature appearing before he could formulate a worthwhile response. Instead, he felt the same pain that Werah did and just sat there with the tea in hand as he raised a brow. That pain was irritating to the point his hands started to shake, in fact, there was probably only one time he had more pain and that was when Makeb had happened... something he deeply wanted to remain in his past. "Time for lesson one..." His hands moved and the tea fell to the ground, the cup falling from the root into the swamp below. From there, though, he went to work.

Solan's hands moved with a rhythm to them, striking out through the air and gripping onto the roots and vines around him though the force. They grew, slowly at first before reaching out at the creature. In vice grip fashion they moved around its limbs and neck, striking out and clasping onto its torso as well. It tried to drag the creature down, tried to pull the limbs out as Solan sat there with his hands moving like a conductor. He swung out his hand in a way that acted like he had an orchestra before him, commanding it to sound the horns and bring the bows across their strings.

The creature was a bit stronger than he had assumed, though, tearing through the new vines and roots as newer ones tried to take their place. Ten meters separated them, too close for his comfort and so he would deal with that problem now. The flame he had created still flickered, smaller though with his attention having been without any focus to it. Now, though, would be a different case, striking out with his hand once more he put it into that small flame before letting the pain further rise.

His hands drew out though once the burns had begun to form, the pain enough to derive a bit more power from and with the movement of his hand the flame grew and followed like a ribbon. Its fire filled that air as he stared forward at the creature he now faced with. It had come closer, tearing away some of the last roots and no more than five meters from him, from here it would take one last pull to dislodge from the bindings... but that would be too late for what Solan had planned.

His hand turned and he smiled as he gave a quick needless snap with the burned hand, the fire that had followed like a ribbon now expanded and filled the air between solan and the creature, striking out like two serpents that were engulfed in those very flames that had been created by the man. They would crawl and coil around the creature, lighting it ablaze and giving Solan even more pain to train his focus on and use as fuel. It was something that was much easier to make seen than actually do, his body already becoming taxed from the effort and even this display would not kill the creature if it would continue the attack, though. That was something he was sure of in it not doing, all that was left would be for the creature to decide what to do, though.

Werah saw Solan battling the monstrous creature, and prepared to help. He flung deep within himself, finding the spark of the force, and igniting it. Blazing with power, Werah moved his hands in a circle, forming a ball of energy. The creature was advancing on Solan, and seemed to be surviving, when Werah let the ball of plasma go. It flew towards it, impacting on the creature's back, creating a bubbling patch of molten skin. It roared, and turned to Werah, running towards him instead. Werah took out his blaster, and fired a couple of shots, before diving to the side. The pounding reappeared in Werah's mind, and he struggled to get back up, as the creature bore down on him again...

It seemed the creature was in this until the end, that was an unfortunate thing to behold as it was hit by Werah and from there changed its tactics. Ever so disappointing indeed.

His hands raised from where he was sitting and moved, vines following their movement and slowing the creature as they began a renewed effort. This effort being supported by Solan's full focus now as he dipped into the force around him rather than his own reserves, his eyes closing and his mind taking over for them. It was like trying to grab a boulder from ten feet away, out of your physical reach and power and out of any possibility for you to even hold onto it for more than a few seconds anyways. He smiled at that, though, his hands like vice grips on the force as the roots under the creature tore from their place and curved up, creating a cage of sorts around the creature's body.

It was no simple task and something that his eyes never once opened to actually gaze on with physical means. He reached out and tore more roots from the ground, swamp being pulled up with them and the vines that hung from those trees he was tearing up reaching down like a noose. None of it would truly trap the creature, though, as it tore the fibers and sinew of the plants like paper, break the roots apart like they were but slim twigs meant for a campfire. But there was a reason to this little cage of wood and plant, to that tinderbox the creature was creating, and as Solan watched it continue to tear and pull, breaking apart everything around it, he had to simply wait to do as he was meaning to do.

Then there was the involvement of the former General. If that tactical brain of Werah's was still there, he should understand well enough what Solan was trying to do with this vain attempt at trying to grab and hold the creature down. That it was all just a facade for what he truly meant to accomplish.

Werah wondered what Solan was doing, but the pounding made it hard to concentrate. He leapt into the air, vaulting over the creature, and drawing his lightsaber. With its back to him, the pain receded, and he quickly figured out what Solan intended to do. He pressed the button on his wrist, and his suit crackled with power, before letting him blend seamlessly into the shadows. Invisible, he crouched in the mud, watching Solan work. He sent a burst of energy towards him, temporarily linking their energy reserves. Werah had seen people die from burning too much of their own energy, but he was determined not to let it happen now. The shrubby behind him began to either though, and Werah realised where Solan was getting his energy. It was a dangerous game indeed, that he was playing...
