MELEE WEAPON
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Longsword
  • Size: Large - 92cm
  • Weight: Average - (Overall Total: 7kg)
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Blastsword - Without any changing of configuration, the weapon can fire slugs at any moment during sword combat, and vice versa. All it needs is a flick of the wrist
  • Phrik
Strengths:
  • Phrik - It can fight lightsabers
  • Rifle - The weapon has long range and stopping power
Weaknesses:
  • Unwieldy - The weapon is originally holstered by a special string or leather strap. The blade has a specialized leather sheathe, allowing the weapon to be held like a rifle. When removed, it takes time to put it back on, however in the middle of a fight it is usually ditched. Firing the weapon with one hand severely reduces Accuracy. A wielder can choose to hold the blade, but the recoil will cause deep cuts and wounds.
  • Unwieldy x2 - As mentioned above, the sheathe causes more problems. It forces the user to reload the weapon, one-handed, while aiming the weapon upwards like a shotgun. And each shot is loaded one bullet at a time. The loading position is at the underside of the weapon.
DESCRIPTION
This weapon, hand-crafted by Eddak himself, ties in the culture of Galderran military with swords and slugthrowers. For Eddak, it can easily become his favorite weapon. In the middle of battle, he can charge, raising his sword to lead his people, then pause and fire at enemies coming at him. The weapon is reloaded at the underside, with each slug being loaded individually. It can hold up to ten slugs at any given time. While only ten slugs may not be best suited for a rifle in the middle of a battlefield, some things have to be compromised for the style of the weapon. Along the blade, it has an etching in Galactic Standard saying "For My Love of Galderra, I Will Fight For Your Rights."

Effective Range: Long Range
Some practical considerations to take in mind with this, considering its unusual combination of being a gunsword.

How is this aimed?

Granted, it makes sense to be able to point and shoot this at someone that's nearby (typical pistol ranges), but how does one aim this at a far away "long range" target?

Stopping Power: High Recoil: Average

Something with a high stopping power is also probably going to have high recoil. The one exception to this is if the weapon weighs a lot to help soak up the recoil. Conversely, an exceptionally lightweight weapon is going to have very high recoil because there's not as much mass to compensate for the opposite and equal reaction of a high-powered cartridge. In this instance, the weapon appears to mostly be made out of lightweight phrik. With a weight of 1.2 kilograms (not too far off from most modern day pistols), this is exceptionally light for a slugthrower rifle, which means that the recoil on this is probably going to be pretty atrocious.

We've got a couple ways of going about this. We can either simply up the recoil to "very high", which in practical terms will cut down practical long-range accuracy significantly, or we could change the rough power of the cartridge itself to something that's lighter weight, but easier to control.

Sorry, I'm not a gun person. I was thinking it would have an effective range of a little over a M1 Garand since it is higher tech. I've no problem figuring out something proper. It does have generic iron sights.

As per your comment on weight, I decided to go with "average" weight, i.e. the average weight of a Longsword and a M1 Garand. 1.5kg and 5kg, roughly
M1 Garand
Longsword

6-7kg in all

[member="Eddak Manod"], 6-7 kilograms is a much manageable weight from a recoil perspective. Speaking of which:

You may want to amend your kilogram listed weight to that here.

Sights are part of that equation. How to absorb the recoil is another factor in it. The M1 has a conventional stock for that very purpose. This doesn't have that, as it has a sword handle for a grip. Unlike a conventional firearm, there is also no foreend to grip either (it's the sword's blade). So we have a very limited area with which to grip this gun, aim, and handle recoil. It's difficult for me to describe the impulse of firing a high-velocity gun like this with little gripping area, but I think that the closest real life example I can give you is a pistol grip shotgun (notably, not a long-range weapon). Here's an example of why this is difficult, but you can search up something like "pistol grip shotgun fail" in YouTube to see just how difficult this can be to control. Bear in mind, many of these guns do have forends (or pumps in these shotgun's cases) that people are using in these videos to help migitate some of this recoil. This gunsword does not have that.

That's the weight of just the blade, but I'll make it total weight of the whole item, instead.

It has a special leather sheathe over the blade while using the rifle. Under normal circumstances, aim is proper. After removing the sheathe, it is complicated to put back on. Which, under non-normal circumstances the aim is improper.

I know exactly what you're talking about, about holding the shotgun in that way. And that's exactly what I'm going for. If Eddak uses the rifle portion after using the blade function, he can injure his hand from the blade (if he uses proper grip), and if he doesnt, it will either fly out of his hand, injure himself more severely, or injure someone else. The point isn't to continuously swap back and forth, but to go into melee combat much quicker than otherwise.
