Floating like a rock in the stream

Gray had been contacted for an odd request from an old client. He was asked to act as an escort and partner to someone on a salvage mission. The client's ship had a massive failure while traveling through hyper space and was forced out into a system full of pirates. The ship was now derelict and the crew was dead. The life support systems had gone down and sadly no one was able to re-active them before it was too late. A sad story for the crew, but not so sad for Gray as it meant an easier job assuming the pirates didn't get to the ship first. If they did, then he would just get to have a little fun dealing with them.

Gray had gotten word he would meet the person he was teamed up with on this mission at the closest spaceport to the site. He hadn't gotten a name, but was told they would be taking their ship which happened to be a freighter. They were to retrieve the crates from the wreck marked with an X and that was all. Easy in and out job. The only issue that Gray saw, aside from the possible pirates, was that he was told the other person wouldn't be that experienced. He didn't know how to take that, but figured it wouldn't be good if things went south. Oh well, he would handle whatever came along.

Gray just stood at the port the person was suppose to land in to pick him up. He was clad in his armor from head to toe with his helmet held at his side. His blaster pistol was strapped to his right as always and he had two thermal detonators ready just in case. He just stood there waiting like this until they got there.

The day had finally come. A day that Amber both feared and looked forward to. Amber was used to doing salvage missions with her father, he was a her leader so she could always rely on him. Amber's father decided it was finally time for her to do a mission without his supervision because he was not going to be around forever. On the freighter Amber sat in a seat staring out the window with her arms folded tightly around her stomach, signs that she was clearly nervous. The freighter she was on was currently orbiting a spaceport waiting for permission to dock. Amber's father did not want to leave her completely alone so he organized an escort for her, she had no idea who or what he was.

"We have been granted permission to dock. Prepare for landing" The pilot who she did not either said over the speakers.

Amber let out a big sigh and slumped back in her chair as the freighter began to descend. She decided she should at least try to make a good impression so she got up and waited by the door. After about 10 minutes the freighter had docked and the doors opened. First thing Amber did was take in a big deep breath of the non recycled oxygen causing her dim red eyes to brighten. Amber walked onto the landing platform looking around.
It then dawned on her that she had no idea who she was looking for so she stood off to the side.

Gray saw the freighter finally land in the port. It took them long enough to get permission to land, likely the fault of whoever was piloting it. He wasn't going to complain, because he was actually on a good paying job that had the chance for some action. He just needed to meet and greet the person he was going on the job with, discuss the information for it, and then get it done. He was going to be a proffesional about this.

Gray watched the ship's door ramp drop and got a smile ready on his face. He was going to be a proffesional, a proffesi-. Wait, was that a Chiss girl? A short, yet curvy Chiss girl? Well this job just got better, and made so much more sense. He walked over to her with his helmet still held at his side and said with a smile on his face, " Hello there. You must be who I am looking for, and if not then you are now. The name is Gray and your name must be Beautiful, because that is exactly what you are." He winked at her and added after, " Oh and lets have a good time. No reason for us to be blue."

Another sigh left Amber's soft lips, she could not understand why she was so nervous. It was just another day of work without daddy and her little Bib-bib around. Amber found a small empty and decided to take a seat on it whilst looking around. She noticed a tall man walking in her direction but there were so many people about that she thought nothing of it. Amber tucked her shiny black hair behind her ears and fixed a strap on her boots when she felt like someone was coming close to her. She propped her head up and noticed the tall man was now standing in front of her. Amber stared at him as he spoke with her bright red eyes. Amber had not had much experience with other people so his comment about her being beautiful made her blush sightly.

"Beautiful? oh...thank you" Amber nervously giggled

"Ah yes Gray, now i remember what your name was!"

Ah human hmour, something that Amber had always failed to understand. She did not even get the joke.

"huh? what's wrong with being blue? we should probably leave...Um do you think you could fly this freighter? My dad does not really know the pilot. might be best to leave him here."

Gray saw that his comment had succeeded in getting a reaction from her. He also noticed his joke didn't go over well, but that was pretty much what always happened. He listened to her comment and frowned a bit. He said, " Yeah, I don't think that would be a good idea. I would rather we bring his stuff back, not leave him with a second derelict ship to deal with."

Gray just noticed something that he had missed earlier. He looked her over real quick before he said, " Did you just say dad? Are you the daughter of the client?" He didn't know what was with him and the daughters of people lately, but he added shortly after with a smile on his face, " Guess that means you're not just beautiful but have some credit to go along with it. Dangerous combo. I might just pounce on ya before the end of the trip." He winked to her as he finished speaking.

Amber looked at the ship as if she was looking at the pilot at that moment.

"Yeah you are probably right, i will message him right now. Will make it less awkward you know?"

After a minute or two the pilot exited giving them both a stern look, cutting him meant cutting out his pay but Amber had to do what she thought was best. Amber had began walking to the ramp of the ship when she heard mention of her father. she turned around quickly

"OH yes....i work with my father."

This time amber cracked a soft smile at the man.

"Heh, you sure like to flatter Mr Gray"

Again the joke went right over poor Amber's head

"Pounce on me? No need to attack me, you will get the creds you have been promised. Make yourself familiar with the cockpit. I will go message my father. "

With that Amber spun on her heels and entered the ship making her way to a comm link inside.

Gray said, " Wait, can you pilot this thing? If not, don't send the pilot away." He watched as she sent the pilot off anyways as he spoke, and wasn't so sure this mission was going to make it if he had to pilot the thing. He went up to the cockpit and looked at all of the buttons and switches. He never liked looking at the control panels for ships. They just all looked the same to him, but he knew they all had a completely different function. He just sat there a moment before he got up and walked to the passenger seat and sat down.

Gray said to himself as he strapped himself in, " This is going to be a great trip alright. All the way to the burning inferno I fly us into by accident."

Amber stood there with her mouth open at the realization that none of them could fly. Without saying anything she ran out the door in order to bring the pilot back. After about 5 minutes she returned with him and when they arrived she noticed Gray in the cockpit.

"Um, the pilot here says he likes to be in the cockpit alone.....he knows the way however" Amber smiled, the nerves still clear in her voice.

With a forced awkward smile she turned around and left the cockpit. Amber entered a small room at sat down at a table picking up a holopad which had the mission details on it. Running her hand through her hair and letting out a deep sigh she placed her head on the table.

"what mess have i gotten myself into this time?" she said to herself.

Gray was relieved when the pilot came back. He was so glad he wasn't about to kill such a pretty girl in a fiery explosion. He unstrapped himself and went out of the cockpit as the pilot gave him a nasty look. He didn't care what look the pilot gave him, so long as he didn't have to fly the giant hunk of metal to his death.

Gray saw the girl head into a room and decided to follow her in there. As he got in he heard everything she had to say and watched her lay her head down on the table. He went over to sit in the seat next to her and set his helmet down on the table. He smiled at her and patted her on the back gently for a moment.

Gray said, " Don't worry so much Blue. I will make sure you get out of this looking as pretty as you did going in. After all, it would be a waste for the galaxy to lose such a pretty girl as you are on her first mission after all." He winked at her before he looked at the mission details. He added after a few moments of quickly skimming them, " This is a pretty straight forward mission. We just got to go to the ship, load up the crates marked X, and then come back. As easy as it gets."
