[SIZE=9pt]The Flidais Ion Railgun was an inevitable evolution of Locke and Key’s push to the design of capital ship weapons. It is at its core a delivery device for ionic energy, designed to reach across a battlefield to batter ships’ shields and disable their systems before they were even capable of reaching out to return fire. In a warspace defined by a ship’s ability to close with the enemy, to bring their weapons to bear, the threat of being engaged and neutralised before you were even able to open fire on the enemy was a terrifying one. The weapon itself was very simple, by their very nature, ion cannons produced charged shots, which were then accelerated by the magnetic coils to reach their targets faster, thereby loosing less energy during travel, allowing the ion blast to strike with a significantly greater force than expected.
