SPECIAL FEATURES
- Dual Hypermatter Reactors: Two hypermatter reactors, one of which serves to power the shields, hyperdrive and engines. The other, weapons, life support and targeting systems.
- Kyber Embued Shield Generators: The shield generator of the Vindicator is imbued with kyber crystals, meaning its shields receive a massive boost.
- Kyber Imbued Weaponry: Armed with kyber focusing crystals, the Vindicator’s turbolasers are more accurate, and deadlier. They can produce three times the damage of an ordinary turbolaser, at the expense of being able to fire less. The batteries are susceptible to overheating, and if pushed too far, or hit in a bombing run, can and will detonate.
- Quandanium Steel Coat: Coating the thick armour plating, and additional layer of two meter thick quandanium steel works to absorb kinetic damage, and assist hull integrity.
- HIMS: The Vindicator was refitted with the mind of it being a raiding ship. A star destroyer that could easily infiltrate enemy territory, and cause havoc before leaving. HIMS is a hyperspace inetial momentum stabiliser, and with it installed, it means the Vindicator can subvert interdictors, and other attempts at halting hyperdrive travel.
- The Bastion Point Defence System: The Vindicator is armed with the Bastion point defence system, the most advanced missile defence, computing program the First Order has.
- Ion Pulse: The Vindicator's armour is equipped with circuitry which allows for an ion discharge to be sent through the ships armour. It is designed to disable buzz droids, and short out the systems of boarding pods. However, a draw back of its use, is that it disables key systems when used for five minutes. The shields, bastion and most turbolasers will be forced offline until they can appropriately reboot.
Strengths:
- +Strong Armament: Armed with turbolasers that can fire super charged plasma bolts, and a highly versatile armament of missiles, the Vindicator hits well above her weight.
- +Increased Turbolaser Effectiveness: The use of kyber crystals within the weapons systems mean that the turbolaser effectiveness of this ship, is off the charts. Although it won't shoot lightsabers, or carry the power of the Death Star, it will increase the efficiency of turbolaser batteries.
- +Ion Pulse: The use of buzz droids has not been lost on the First Order, and because of that the ability to send an ion pulse through the ships armour, designed to short out buzz droids and boarding craft, has been made.
- +Kyber Shielding: Instilled with the power of kyber, the shielding of the Vindicator can now project, and reinforce itself more accurately, and with less of a penalty to energy consumption.
- +Fast Tracking Batteries: Designed to lock on, and track down fighters, the fast tracking mounts on the Vindicator are designed for it to be able to accurately chase down corvettes, and keep up with them.
- +Beefed Up Hull: Extensive quandanium steel has been used to add a two meter thick layer of armour, designed to dent the frequent use of kinetic weaponry, and buzz droids by hostiles.
- +Faster Than She Looks: The Vindicator is a ship that’s faster than nearly all of her cousins. Although she appears to be a fat-bottomed girl, cruisers will have hell trying to run away. This is thanks to increased power supplied by the secondary reactor, it is able to run at full power at all times.
- +Jumping Jack: Thanks to advanced navigational computers, and hyperdrives, the Vindicator is a ship which can perform short-range precision jumps whenever it wants.
- +Point Defence Upgrade: The Vindicator carries a larger presence of point defence weaponry than most other ships.
- +Bastion of Freedom: The network of droid brains fitted on the Vindicator man the point defence weapons, and use them to effectively negate nearly any obstacle which gets in its way.
Weaknesses:
- -Explosive Finish: The end to some turbolasers, and elements of the ship maybe, well, somewhat explosive.
- -It’s Getting Hot In Here: Due to the nature of kyber crystals, it will be necessary to rest batteries after sustained use to keep them from overheating, and subsequently imploding. Turbolasers will need to be rested for a minute or two to cool down.
- -Boarders: There is not a full stormtrooper legion aboard the Vindicator, meaning that when the time for boarders come, there is far less opposition to face.
- -Sustained Fighter Attacks: The Vindicator’s small fighter compliment, means that it is unable to fight off fighters effectively, and could fall prey to them.
- -They Came From Behind: Although there is a strong presence of ventral and aftly mounted batteries, they are not nearly enough to combat rearward attackers.
- -Ion Pulse Hangover: The use of the ion pulse feature is not without its major draw backs. The use of this feature shorts out the shields for a short while. This is something an intelligent enemy could capitalise upon.
- -Turret Manoeuvrability: Aside from the batteries armed with fast tracking mounts, the Vindicator’s turrets and their ability to turn means that smaller targets such as fighters, and corvettes may escape its wrath.
- -Ammo Caches: Below the thick armour plating, and missile batteries, sit hundreds of missiles, waiting to be loaded. If a half-way intelligent bomber pilot could exploit those stored missiles to blow a hole in the ship.
- -Manoeuvrability: Although she's fast, the Vindicator, is sluggish. She can't turn or manoeuvre much, so a quick thinking enemy could use that to their advantage.
Description: The FIV Vindicator is a ship synonymous with the First Order’s advance to status as a galactic power. The Vindicator’s history is one which charts the history of the Order. The Vindicator began life as the second imperial-x star destroyer created, and was placed under the command of Captain Carlyle Rausgeber, one of the chief designers of the ship. The battleship’s early days were fraught with conflict, and upon it’s initial deployment to Castameer, was nearly destroyed while spearheading the assault on the Omega Weapon.
The Vindicator however largely survived intact thanks to the assistance of Commonwealth assets in the system, and was thusly able to escape. The experience however scarred its commanding officer, leaving deep psychological wounds. The ship returned to Dosuun, where it was retrofitted by Central Command, and redeployed to the frontier of the First Order.
The warship thrived in its new environment, and became a model of military efficiency within the navy. The Vindicator served a pivotal role during the ill-fated Galactic and Tygaran Alliance incursions on Kaeshana, with the Vindicator serving as one of the command ships during the engagement. However, as its master, Carlyle Rausgeber was promoted to admiral, the ship fell out of prominence. This happened, as the Vindicator stood in the shadow of the FIV Malice, and newer resurgent-class star destroyers.
However, the Vindicator continued to serve by Rausgeber’s side, during the ill-fated Skor campaign, and later leading skirmishes against the Galactic Alliance during the Hoth Offensive at Anoat. It was the ships successes against Alliance troop transports here, along with that of the new Vanquisher-class models, that spurred Rausgeber into action. That he knew the Vindicator deserved a refit.
Although the Vanquisher-class already held a significant arsenal of weapons, the Vindicator’s prestige from Castameer and Kaeshana ensured Carlyle took special interest in the battleship. Decidedly, the Vindicator saw extensive modification, in addition to its technical refit.
As apart of the upgrades which moved the Vindicator from an imperial-x to a vanquisher-class, the ship received kyber imbued turbolasers, shielding and engines. The Vindicator also had a secondary power generator installed, and had its weapons now imbed with kyber crystals to give an advantage in terms of firepower. This however meant that the Vindicator’s TIE compliment and troop transporting ability was slashed to make room for that.
However, the armament of the Vindicator had significant upgrades outside of the kyber crystals. The number of turbolasers, missile and torpedo launchers was dramatically increased. There were changes made, so that the aft of the vessel. Although it’s still the weakest part of the vessel, the Vindicator still can fire back at the enemy and make sure it isn’t open season on its flank.
An additional upgrade was in the way of defences. The employing of more point defence weapons, and a bastion defence system to operate them was taken from the Resurgent-II star destroyer project, and given to the Vindicator. Along with this came the quandanium steel coat, designed to absorb kinetic and most missile damage. With this, came the ion pulse, used to disable buzz droids and disrupt boarding craft.
In terms of travelling, the Vindicator saw a specialised hyperdrive fitted on it, along with navigational systems. The idea of this, in Admiral Rausgeber's mind, was to create a ship that could quickly enter Alliance space, and harrass trade, before promptly leaving again. This, combined with the new engines, and nav computer and hyperdrive, would create, at least in Rausgeber's mind, the greatest raiding ship to ever be thought of. Able to suppress a star systems fleet, and be able to quickly jump away.
The aim of the technical refit, in Carlyle's mind was to see a ship which had served loyally to the First Order, recieve the upgrades necessary to ensure it would continue to make history.
