First Line of Defence

Kay-Larr

Sphaera Tea Company Owner
Kay had been calling quite a bit of attention to herself lately. As a Senator that should be normal, but the kind of attention that she was drawing to herself was not so much on the political front as it was somewhat personal. She had allies everywhere, yet she had enemies too. And slowly the latter began to outnumber the former. Even some within the Republic itself regarded her as being dangerous for them. But they just didn't understand....

No one did, really. It was why she so often worked on her own, hiring different people for different missions, different ships for different journeys. It made her whereabouts less easily tracked. Primarily she was in Hutt Cartel space, freeing the slaves being held by Sempra's criminal organization. Why the Republic would want to be allied with them was beyond her. However Kay did vote for it. But that too was for personal reasons. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

Speaking of which, the bounty on her head still remained, despite their capture and psychological torture. At least she thinks that's what happened. It's tough to recoup from being made to believe to be insane, but she was managing. Still white clothing, doctors, hospitals, white rooms, all of that still gave her apprehension. But thankfully in space, such things weren't easy to find.

And being in Hutt Cartel space as she often was meant that her odds of running into bounty hunters and Cartel members was high. More hired protection was needed. After scouring the holonet she read the profile of one simply known as [member="Growl"] and reached out to him, asking for him to meet her on Bakura. It was a neutral planet and a rather pleasant location with all of it's small cities, rolling hills and forests. With her request she had given an address for a tavern. Such things were better handled in public. It was safer that way.

Growl would step onto Bakura soil for the first time and sigh as if he had a feeling this was some kind of joke are attempt to kill him.He would approach a man sitting in his Tantive IV Landspeeder and offer him 100 credits to take him to the address he received from Lady Kay.The driver agreed with a swift "Hell yea!".Upon stepping off the mans landspeeder he saw the tavern and realized where he was,in an ambush of soldiers waiting to happen. He thought to himself "I'll play your game Lady Kay" as he walked into the tavern and sat in a corner near the back.

Growl now in the darkness of the tavern waited with his right hand at his thigh prepared to grab his pistol in case this was a set up.Taking off his helmet and lighting a cigarette he was ready...ready for [member="Lady Kay"] and what she had to offer him.

It wasn't hard to spot [member="Growl"] as he entered the tavern. His attire consisting of a helmet was a far cry from what was considered normal wear for Bakurians. Yet instead of waving him over to her, Kay approached him and bowed her head. She wasn't at all disgruntled about his smoking. This was a tavern after all.

"Afternoon. I'm Lady Kay. Though I suppose that you already knew that. Would you care to join me? I have a table set up for us."

Growl would stare at [member="Lady Kay"] with a surprised look at the fact she hadn't entered with armed men in an attempt to kill him and seemed rather serious about hiring him.Taking his hand off of his thigh Growl would reply to Lady Kay's generous offer with "Sure,i'll follow you".

Standing up from his table Growl would put out his cigarette and proceed to follow Lady Kay thinking to himself "This is an opportunity to make a name for myself as a great and reliable bodyguard".

She led him to a small table that already had her tea waiting for her, although she had already drank half of her cup. A small kettle rested beside it. On his end, [member="Growl"] would find some water plus a menu as she wasn't quite sure what he would fancy for a drink.

Kay sat herself down and then picked up her cup, cradling it in both of her hands as she sized him up. "Help yourself to a drink of your choice. And while we wait, you can tell me a bit about your training."

Growl would sit down and examine the menu thoroughly. He had never heard of most of these drinks as he only drinks 2 things and that is Whiskey or Water. He would call for the nearest waiter and order for a mug of Whyren's Reserve.Growl now satisfied with his incoming order would turn his attention to Lady Kay.

"As far as my training goes you shouldn't think of me as a human but a machine.I am the best bang for your buck kind of guy offering great protection with reasonable prices that vary per client. On my 8th birthday party my father approached me while I was setting up invitations and told me that we would begin training today.I was confused until he gave me my first weapon,a small Vibro-Knife that could be easily concealed in a boot.I trained every day for years. On my 17th birthday my father released me from his custody and declared that I had learned the way of an independent soldier. In his words a 'One man army'.It would take hours to explain every little thing I learned or my capabilities but I can assure you your safety if a threat was present".

"If you care for a resume I don't have one but I know every kill I have made.In total I have killed 87 sentient beings, most being human.Other things include Rodians,Wookies,Trandoshans, and even a Chiss.I have also destroyed 9 droids in my past experiences so in total 96 confirmed kills. If I do say so myself that isn't bad for 6 years of service, not to mention I am only 24 years old".

Growl would await his drink while cleaning the visor on his helmet which was resting in his lap."Your thoughts [member="Lady Kay"]?"

Kay nodded, sipping her tea as she listened with keen interest to [member="Growl"] speak. What he had said was impressive, but they'd know if he really was worth the credits soon enough. It wasn't as though she had set anything up, but trouble had a way of finding her. Although it wasn't as though she had never done anything to instigate it....

"My thoughts are that you should know a bit about what you'd be getting into. Many bodyguards have come and gone. I think that it's mostly because they can't keep up with me. I have bounties on my head through the Hutt Cartel due to my actions against them. You see....I run many different types of missions to rescue slaves from their clutches. Some of them are rescued before they can even get into the Cartel's hands. I am a bit reckless and stubborn, but I'm always trying to do the right thing."

Growl would look at [member="Lady Kay"] in an odd way before responding to her with "What you do is what you do but if you are involved with the Cartel then that is going to up my prices.I can keep you safe but I am a bodyguard not your personal mercenary.I will not help you save slaves unless you are involved directly and what I mean by that is if you are there as your people free the slaves. You may think its the right thing but you may just be making the bounty on your head much larger which can and will make my prices go up.I would love to work with you but I must know how you plan to use me first".

A waiter would approach the table setting down Growl's Whiskey and smiling asking "Is there anything else you need sir?" .Growl would hand the man a few credits before waving him off and setting the mug closer to him.Now waiting on Lady Kay's response to what he had to say.

[member="Growl"] made some good points. She sipped her tea as she had pondered on how to answer him. With people constantly saying that she's involved with the Cartel, to her it always makes her think that they believe that she is working for the Cartel. When in fact it was the exact opposite.

"Most of the time I am there for the rescues. Only a few times have I watched from afar but I was always close enough to bring back up or be an escape for those working for me. I understand that you wouldn't be taking a mercenary role. That isn't what I had wanted anyways. But as the bounties are there and are high, I need someone to have my back in case a hunter finds me, or the Cartel catches up to me. They have set traps for me in the past...." And she fell for them too. Hook, line and sinker. "I have no children nor family to speak of, so I would be the only one under your charge."

Growl would nod at the fact she had no family and say in a sinister manner "That makes things easier".

Growl now drinking his Whiskey would stop and look up to [member="Lady Kay"] and ask "Shall we talk about the terms of my hire or would you rather think about it some more?".

Kay raised a brow as [member="Growl"] spoke in a sinister way. Was that meant to sound the way that it did? Did he have some ulterior motive in all of this? Maybe she would have to be a bit careful with this one.

She sipped her tea. "I can offer you two thousand a week for a month long trial period. Travel, food, accommodations, all of that will be taken care of. How does that sound to you?"

Kay wasn't entirely made of money. Sure she was paid well as a Senator, but not in the same amount as a Senator in a more important world was. Nor in the same way as one of the Ministers. Still most of her money was put towards her efforts against the Cartel. Yet the creation of her shell company and it's way of operations did provide her with a way to gain more funds.

Of course she couldn't blame [member="Growl"] for coming up with a counter offer. "Two thousand, two hundred and twenty-five a week, plus travel, food, accommodations as well as medical..."

Growl liked [member="Lady Kay"] and decided to accept her offer with a hope that she'd live long enough for him to get enough money for a ship."Deal" Growl said extending his hand to her with a smile on his face.

Good! No more bartering was needed. She planted her hand firmly in his and shook it. "Deal." Now she can relax a bit.

Kay let go of his hand and leaned back in her chair as she had another sip of her tea. "I assume that you can start right away?"

[member="Growl"]

She nodded and smiled. "Wonderful. Though of course we'd be sleeping in separate rooms. Yours will be next to mine in case of an emergency, but I often get a better sleep when I am by myself."

Kay needed some alone time every now and then so that if she needed to vent, she could do so.

She smirked a little as he chuckled, but it wasn't as though it was at her expense. Though his comment made her wonder. What did [member="Growl"] mean when he said that he slept better cold? Kay sipped her tea. "Now remember that I can be stubborn, though sometimes you might have to be even more so if you think that there's too much danger. I can be a bit naive at times as I always hope for the best from people."
