Intent: Create an Identification Software Uploadable into a Helmet or Subsystem for Friend v Foe ID Authentication.
Development Thread: If Required
Manufacturer: Brandt-Volcata Industries
Model: FFACTS - Friend vs Foe Authenticated Combat Tactical Software
Affiliation: Open Market
Modularity: No
Production: Mass-Produced.
Material: Durasteel, Electronics, Insulating, EMI Dampening Coating
Strengths:

  • Able to identify friendly targets up to a range of 300m without Line of Sight

  • Prevents Associated Brandt-Volcata Turret Systems from firing on the wearer of the device.

  • Able to be Uploaded into existing systems if not utilizing proprietary hardware

Weaknesses:

  • Limited by Line of Sight if beyond 300m

  • Requires significant programming, only works on systems the device is associated to.

  • Hardware is not EM hardened, easily disabled by ion weapons.

Description: Created as a proprietary device and software, the FFACTS is utilized exclusively with the Brandt-Volcata line of automated weapon emplacements. Acting as a “BluFor” tracker, it is able to identify friendly forces via either software uploaded into a pre-existing IFF transponder system or available in hardware form to be attached to various pieces of equipment. The larger the equipment the arger the module, for example: A Tank of average size may have a hand sized node, a friendly ground infantry unit might have a small cookie sized node, things larger such as starships or large armored vehicles might denote use of a dinner plate sized node. Each node contains hardware resistant to Electromagnetic interference as well as a redundant circuitry system and requires very little power to operate, relying entirely on its own microbattery.

In software form, the FFACTS is uploaded to a pre-existing IFF Transponder system and affects a minor partition of the host drive, it then operates a sub system of its own to operate the module, patching into the host IFF transponder to identify itself to friendly emplacements.
