SPECIAL FEATURES
Strengths:
  • Low Flashpoint: FC-25 has a pretty low flashpoint. The powder substance is able to be set off with a single spark. During testing, the R and D department did several tests of scattering the powder through, say, a fan or just simply tossing it in the air by hand and lighting the powder with a spark or a lighter. FC-25's low flashpoint allowed most to all of the air-borne powder to light in flames in some pretty cool displays of pyrotechnics. If we were to be honest, they probably liked this part a little too much.
  • Stable: FC-25 is pretty stable from a physical standpoint. Anyone could jostle a box of this powder till their heart was content without fear of it going off. The only way to detonate FC-25 is with a spark or a shock from some electrical source.
  • High Energy capacity: FC-25 has a pretty high energy capacity. The flames of burning FC-25 are pretty bright, almost as bright as burning magnesium. Also, its pretty hot too. During testing, exposure to bare skin with FC-25 resulted in charred flesh (Sorry, Doug, we didn't know) that required severe medical attention. Exposing a quarter inch plate of durasteel to burning FC-25 made it red-hot in a matter of 3 seconds. After 5, the metal began to melt. After 10 seconds, the durasteel was goopy melted. And since, RMIA is a weapons company, after all, they tested what FC-25 would be like as a charge. 15 grams of the substance detonated had enough kinetic force behind it to knock a man down with ease at point blank range (sorry Doug, we didn't know). A half a kilogram of the substance had enough force to knock an average speeder on its side or make the speeder roll over completely (Sorry Doug, we kinda knew).
Weaknesses:
  • Powder substance: FC-25 is a very fine powder that is best equated with a very fine sand. It can be compressed together into more workable forms, but these forms can and will ultimately crumble. When not packed together and left free-flowing, FC-25 can be moved by even gentle winds. These properties make it cantankerous to work with, the powder has to be carried on something.
  • Low Flashpoint: A single spark can set off FC-25, and while that is great in some cases, its pretty dangerous in others. While FC-25 is not volatile in the sense that a slight jostle could set it off, it is very sensitive to temperatures. So, its best if FC-25 is carried in a secure, temperate container for the scatter issue and for the low flashpoint thing. After all, who wants to accidentally blow themselves up because they were careless?
  • Fast Burn: FC-25 burns hot--but it also burns fast. A handful of the powder tossed in the air will be gone pretty much the moment its in contact with whatever is setting it off. FC-25 does not stick around long like napalm, it releases all of its energy pretty much the second its detonated and is gone.
DESCRIPTION
Ardgal loves explosives. In fact, there are few beings in this galaxy that love them more than he does. So when the Warrior decided to start working on a real explosive to end all explosives, he set his best R and D specialist to work on it--his cousin Virgil Raxis.

Now, Virgil does not have many loves in this life. If we were to be honest, her opinion towards the majority of beings in existence is best described as "pray you don't meet me in a cold dark ally." Maybe because of this, or in spite of it, she loves to work on things that go boom. She started out by buying quantities of some of the most destructive element known to beings; fuel. After all, the purpose of fuel is to explode in a contained way. First she wanted to work with Clouzon-36 for its light and air nature. She dropped the fuel to its freezing point, causing the normally airy fuel to drop to a crystaline state on the edges of its containment unit. After making this discovery, the warrior decided to repeat the process--only this time she lined the edges of the containment unit with Barium. When the two froze together, they mixed, and that formed a liquid and lightweight, but rather toxic and unstable substance. The slightest jolt could make the whole mix go boom (sorry Doug).

Well, of course, that would not do for the perfectionist Virgil. After all, what thrill is there in destroying your own foe if it 86's you as well on accident? To solve these problems she repeated the process but with smaller doses of Barium infused with careful quantities of Deuterium. While this all but absolved the toxic problem, it didn't solve the accidental boom boom problem. In actuality, it only made the problem worse (sorry Doug). To form a more stable solution choice parts of Megonite were added to the mix, but only enough to make the solution more stable without damaging the rapid burn time the substance dubbed FC-14. After a series of trial and error attempts, the resulting substance did have a more stable physical dimension, but it lowered the chemical's flashpoint to a dangerous temperature--just above room temperature; and the kinetic force that resulted from detonation was frankly, too low to be acceptable. Not to mention, Virgil didn't like the idea of dealing with a liquid here, it was still far too difficult to handle.

To remedy the composition and this low flashpoint, Magnesium and Baradium were the solution. Both metals were finely and carefully chissled away from blocks of their substance. Since the work was so delicate, they had to be done by hand and mixed by hand (sorry Doug) in a time consuming process. After the initial formula was complete and refined, droids were put on this to work full time. Not only did it speed up the creation, reduce the overhead with paying workers for the creation--it also reduced RMIA's number of weekly workplace accidents by 75%. These metals were added to the concoction, stabilizing it and providing the kick FC-25 needed. Of course, more Magnesium than Baradium was added, but the story of how the right mix was found is another story entirely. The resulting Powder was able to fulfill all of Virgil's requirements and Ardgal's desires almost flawlessly. The resulting product was worth all the time, money, efforts, and Doug's sacrifices to create.

FC-25 is ideal for usage in explosives, flame throwers, jet packs, or as really awesome fireworks to impress your friends or highly lethal magic shows for those you really don't like (sorry not sorry Doug).

Pretty cool, I love subs like this! After my initial skim, quick first question :

Made on one planet (Pzob) by hand? How do you justify this on a mass produced scale with these two qualities?

Thanks! It was fun to write and I look forward to seeing what people do with it.

Well, Ardgal has established a base on Pzob. I am currently working on the sub for the base that will sort of be his big manufacturing plant. I'll be using the threads he has done this to kinda have IC reasoning for it to be a shift in the center of his operations, if ya get my drift. If its a wanky detail that's gonna throw stuff off, I can remove that. :)

The base(Pzob) doesn't bother me. I can see this being mass produced from one location. Just not sure of the "by hand" thing unless you want to add in a fleet of slaves/droids/etc for it to make more sense in your sub.

Barium is mentioned to be poisonous, and Clouzon-36 is also mentioned as being a gas that humans (and another species) cannot breathe. It likely should be mentioned in either the weaknesses or description that this is a toxic substance specifically to humans. (Unless you can explain a reason for that not being the case in this instance?)

How's this? If you want something different I can work something new out.
