PRODUCTION INFORMATION
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
  • Classification: Coagulant
  • Method of Consumption: topical spray
  • Average Life: 2 days
  • Nutritional Value/Allergies/Side Effects/ Purpose: No nutritional value. As with many topical medicines, there is a small potential for minor allergy symptoms including itching and hives at the application site. Some patients are allergic to bacta, in which case this allergic reaction could be deadly. FastClot is designed to be sprayed on a bleeding wound site. The clotting factors within the spray interact with the blood to rapidly start and amp up the body's natural clotting processes, resulting in a rapid clotting of blood in the local area. Spray adhesive within FastClot helps the clots adhere to each other and the wound, meaning that blood loss from the wound site is minimal. A small amount of bacta within FastClot further augments the body's natural healing process, helping to ensure that some viable tissue starts forming to replace the temporary clot before it breaks down completely.
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Easy Spray: FastClot is easy to apply, just needing to be sprayed in the general vicinity of the wound from an aerosol can, hypo spray, or other similar container. It does not take great skill or even fine dexterity to use. This makes it relatively for injured people to use on themselves in the field.
  • Coagulant: FastClot's primary purpose is to rapidly stop bleeding at a wound site to prevent noticeable blood loss. It does this fairly effectively.
  • Adhesive: FastClot contains spray adhesive, which makes it fairly sticky to not only itself, but to other nearby objects. This means that bandages applied to sites with FastClot on it actually stick better than normal.
  • Biodegradeable: All of FastClot's components are biodegradeable or bioabsorbable, meaning that afteruse cleanup is minimal.
STRENGTHS
  • Coagulant: FastClot rapidly stops bleeding at wound sites, making it a potentially invaluable aid in stabilizing patients in the field.
  • Easy Spray: FastClot is easily sprayed onto wounds even by severely injured patients.
WEAKNESSES
  • Allergies: As with many other medicines, there is always the chance of a user experiencing an allergic reaction to FastClot.
  • Short Expiration: Most of FastClot is composed of naturally existing clotting factors. As with any other organic matter, these clotting factors do degrade over time, meaning that FastClot has a relatively short shelf life compared to many other medicines. FastClot is typically only guaranteed to work for several months after it was first manufactured. It may still have some effectiveness after its expiration date, though it is typically not nearly as potent then.
DESCRIPTION
FastClot is Lucerne Biological System's entry into the field-applied coagulant market. Available in a variety of sundry spray containers, FastClot is simply sprayed onto actively bleeding wounds. A variety of clotting factors made in the company's bioreactors then react with the elements of the victims own blood, rapidly clotting it and adhering tightly to the wound. This prevents blood loss, further stabilizing a patient until they can obtain more thorough and complete medical care from a dedicated healthcare provider or facility. Given its compact form, FastClot is frequently found in starship med kits and individual medpacs, especially by those who think there is a likely chance that they suffer traumatic injuries.
