Factory Standardized Rules

This thread will stand as the centralized location for all rules and regulations pertaining to the Factory, use of the Factory, and its various sections thereof and will be kept up to date as rules and regulations evolve and change over time. If you have questions about these rules or need them further explained, please post a topic in the main Factory Discussion or PM either the Factory Admin or RPJs.

Codex & Factory Standardized Rules
Taken from the main Factory/Codex Rules page.
  1. Codex & Factory submissions may only be introduced into role-play threads whose start date begins after the submission's approval date.
  2. There is a cap of three active or pending submissions permitted in each of the sub forums in the Codex or Factory per Writer.
  3. Plagiarism will not be tolerated.
  4. The entire template must be used in your submission. If you have nothing to add for a certain section, simply put ‘N/A’
  5. Be aware that some items and materials are restricted or banned and cannot be used freely. Be sure to consult the list before making a submission.
  6. Do not bump your submissions.
  7. All submissions need to conform to the general idea of Star Wars. No Gundam Wings, no Transformers.
  8. All measurements in all submissions must be in metric.
  9. At any point during the approval process for your submission, you may apply for a Second Chance.
  10. Do not post in other people’s submissions. Consult a judge if you have concerns.
  11. No member may "claim" an image unless they created it themselves.
  12. If the owner of the image asks you to take it down, please do so.
  13. Development threads can have any topic prefix with the exception of Flagship development which must follow a specific template and use the 'Flagship' topic prefix.
  14. Intentionally breaking these rules or attempting to mislead Judges will incur a 30 day zero tolerance ban from the Factory or Codex.

Factory Standardized Rules
These rules span across the entirety of the Factory only.

Pre-Factory Rules and Guidelines [here]
  1. Posted WIP submissions will not be open for member or Judge input. It is simply an area for members to work on their submissions.
  2. Posted WIP submissions will have a 2 week limit within the Pre-Factory subforum. Anything exceeding that will be archived.
  3. Once a posted WIP submission has been completed, the member will tag the Factory Admin or Factory RPJ to move it to the correct forum.
General Submission Guidelines
  • Work-in-Progress submissions are not permitted except in the Pre-Factory.
  • All companies utilized as manufacturers must be hyperlinked to their submission or canonical article.
  • The template's fields are not to be changed/removed/altered, additional information may be added but base fields may not be changed or removed.
  • All non-Basic submission titles should have its Basic translation in parentheses beside it. I.E. Echoy'lii Shuk'orok (Echoy'lan Crushgaunts) or Aliit'Verd Euk'gar'gam (Clan Verd Mando Steel Armor)
  • All development threads that are hyperlinked in submissions must be cited as the full thread title, not an abbreviation.
  • Development threads used and linked within Factory submissions of larger scale [Invasions, Skirmishes, Rebellions, Dominions, large group/faction or extensively long private threads] will require direct links to all posts or group of posts relevant towards the development for the submission.
  • Only in rare instances are two restricted materials allowed per submission, but it's all dependent on intent. New alloys created by blending two or more Restricted Materials are not allowed.
  • To produce a ship over 1,000 meters in length, a company must be Tier 3 or higher.
  • To produce items at mass production, a company must be at least a Tier 2.
  • All droid characters must be approved through the Factory if their droid models are not canon.
  • Development threads are to be done in the main Public or Private Roleplay sections of the board. The Factory does not accept any development threads done in a faction or a hidden forum.
  • The development thread must include the account that is submitting the item into the factory and/or there needs to be a logical exchange between the submitter and the development thread character. (same company, family, transaction, something along those lines)
  • Two players are allowed to use the same development thread for material as long as both or more have been heavily active in the development thread - this is allowed once.
  • All submissions should reflect the strengths and weaknesses of their materials and components for transparency, balance, and fair play.
  • Typically, if a submission lays idle with no reply from the submitter for 48 hours or more, a Factory Judge may archive it. At that time, the submitter may request for it to come back for judgment by PMing a Factory Judge or the Factory Admin.
Submission Modifications
After a submission has been approved, it will be locked. If you want to make a modification to it at a later date, post your request in the appropriate Modification Request thread with the applicable template.

And while the reason for the modification can be as minor or major as you like, be aware that minor modifications will have a lower priority, and that if you attempt to make several modifications in a short span of time, your request may be denied. For more extensive, or vague, modifications, Roleplay Judges will unlock your submission and bring it back out to let you make changes. After you're satisfied with your edits, it will be reevaluated.
  • For those seeking Technology Modifications, please visit this link.
  • For those seeking Starship Modifications*, please visit this link.
* For Starships, there is a 5 item list max in each post, a submitter may only post up to 3 consecutive posts. A submitter may not initiate another request until one of those 3 posts is completed.
  • For those seeking Technnology Modifications, please visit this link.
  • For those seeking Company Modifications, please visit this link.
Second Chance
As per the Codex and Factory Standardized rules, At any point during the approval process for your submission, you may apply for a Second Chance.

  1. If your submission has been denied and you feel it has been done so unfairly you may request a second chance on the submission in question by posting a link to the denied submission and your case for why it should be looked into again.
  2. Submissions pulled for Second Chance will be given a new Judge. You may not request a specific Judge.
  3. At any time during an active original judgement a submitter may request a second chance for a different Judge if they feel they have reasonable evidence of Judge bias or unfair judgement. The item will be archived and the submitter may post the second chance request in the Second Chance thread.
  4. Submissions that are denied on Second Chance are final denials and may not be submitted again.

What is considered Development?

The Factory typically only asks for development threads if: a submission is a set standard (for example as with Starships; is not properly balanced, or an item located within the submission is found on the Restricted Items List Restricted Items List.

One very easy method to follow is that if there is canon precedence and it is balanced with a solid set of weaknesses, then it typically doesn't require development. However, if a submission is particularly ambitious, a Judge reserves the right to ask for additional development for balance and fair play.

Unless specifically stated in the Factory rules, development threads typically start out in the range of a 10 to 15 post requirement. We recommend that the more ambitious and the more powerful the characteristics are in a Factory Submission, then more development you put in it. Solid weaknesses are a definite plus. If you know you're working on a particularly ambitious project it's probably a good idea to get a group together and do some larger scale development work.

On the same note, remember that a development thread may be a fleshed out, entertaining story. It does not need to revolve around dull and raw development. A writer may go on a quest to find the item or conduct roleplay that incorporates the submission in some way.

Restricted & Banned Items
Taken from the main Restricted & Banned Items Article

Restricted Items

1. Objectives which require you to visit a planet located within the Influence Cloud of a Major Faction may only be completed in Non-Private threads.

2. Submissions using Restricted Items will be reviewed by a Role-play Judge, and may be declined depending on the quality and effort of the submitter.

3. Technology that has a restricted material (Beskar, Phrik, Cortosis, Songsteel, Echani Graphite, Ionite, & Pyronium), will no longer require a ‘restricted material’ development thread as long as the item that is being submitted is labeled as UNIQUE. This does not cover any development threads required for what the item is.

4. Submissions which make use of base material submissions that utilize restricted materials will always require substantial development involving that restricted material. (i.e; Phrik Armorweave submissions will require development for utilization in future armor submissions)

5. For Restricted items, standard development may grant between Unique and Limited production depending on the submission, with a maximum of Minor production following additional development.

6. To be able to use a Restricted Item in your Factory Submission, a writer must first complete the objective attached to the restricted item in a convincing manner that adds to the quality of the role-play thread. Standard development may grant between Unique and Limited production depending on the submission, with a maximum of Minor production following additional development. Below in alphabetical order are the items and their associated objectives.

7. Completing restricted item objectives may count as development threads for the submissions using the restricted item. Each completed objective usually only counts for one submission.

8. If a restricted material is traded between characters, please link to purchase/trade thread of the restricted item along with the seller's original resource gathering thread.

9. This list is subject to change without notice. Changes will not affect past submissions.

Salvaging Rules
Taken from the Salvaging Rules Article

Any player with submissions containing restricted materials may recycle those materials for new submissions. The purpose of these rules is to bypass development threads by destroying old submissions you no longer use for new submissions who use the same materials.*

*New restricted materials added to these new submissions will require additional development threads.

Salvaging a submission destroys that submission.

1. You may only salvage items for items of the same type of item*.
Weapons for Weapons, Armor for Armor, Ships for Ships, etc.

2. You may only salvage items you have submitted. You may not salvage items you have purchased and/or been given.

3. The salvaged submission cannot be unsalvaged and is permanently destroyed. It stays in the Factory only for referential purposes.

4. The salvaged submission must be identified prior to the new submission being Approved.

5. Salvaging will always cause the new submission to drop one level of production, but the new submission will not drop below the level of Unique.

5. The salvaged submission must be linked in the new submission and will serve the function of the required development thread for the restricted material.

Technology Rules
Here are the general rules and guidelines for Technology.

  • Fully constructed lightsabers are restricted to a maximum of semi-unique production.
  • The Armor Rating 9 & 10 will require the submission to be UNIQUE. These armor ratings are considered very strong and are usually dealing with unique items that should be restricted to Player Characters only.
  • Technology that has a restricted material (Beskar & Phrik), will no longer require a ‘restricted material’ development thread as long as the item that is being submitted is labeled as UNIQUE. This does not cover any development threads required for what the item is.
Vehicle Rules
Here are the general rules and guidelines for Vehicles.

Podracer Specific Rules:

  • All starting Podracers begin with 50 points to distribute across their statistics
  • Podracers may only go above stock stats with development through racing PC opposition
  • Podracers with sponsorship may start with +1 point per sponsor company tier (One company only)
  • Pod racers come in all shapes and sizes, but the tether between pod and engine can be no longer than 15m, engines no larger than 10m.
Starships Rules
Here are the general rules and guidelines for Starships.

  • Civilian Space Station over 3000m: (Complete a roleplay of 30 posts +10 posts for every additional 1,000 meters over 3,000m with at least two other writers. Max 10,000m. Any Civilian Station over 4,000m is limited to Semi-Unique production. )
Individual Rules
  • An individual character may not own a ship greater than 500 meters in length (Max class a Frigate in Starship Templates). Ships over 500 meters must be owned by a Faction (Major or Minor) or Company and may be captained by the character, but in the case of leaving will not go with them without exceptional circumstances and faction administrator approval.
Minor Factions Rules
  • Minor factions are permitted unique, PC-captained ships up to a length of 1,000 meters
Major Factions Rules
  • Major Factions are permitted unique, PC-captained ships up to a length of 3,000 meters.
  • Only a Major Faction has the resources necessary to role-play having a large fleet, army, etc. [here]
Company Rules
  • Mass producing any starship will require substantial proof of income by way of development thread, higher tier company, or Minor/Major Faction involvement.
  • To produce a ship over 1,000 meters in length, a company must be Tier 3 or higher.
  • Companies may own and operate a realistic amount of Starships in accordance with the table below and Fleet Restrictions for Major Factions:

  • Flagships are a prefix located in the Star Wars: Open Role-Playing forum.
  • No player may captain a ship over 3,000 meters without the Major Faction Owner's consent.
  • No ship over 3,000 meters will be approved for any Major Faction without a completed Flagship thread.
  • Each Flagship must be labeled Unique.
  • The requirements of the Flagship thread are as follows:

  • A company may start owning subsidiaries at Tier 3. A company may have up to a reasonable amount of subsidiaries for their company respective to their tier level with little to no development.
  • Every additional new Location & Operation or Headquarters change requested through the Company Modification Thread will require their own development thread.
  • To produce a ship over 1,000 meters in length, a company must be Tier 3 or higher.
  • To produce items at mass production, a company must be at least a Tier 2.

Canon Company Information
Due to the timeline, it is assumed most canon companies went south with the declining population of the Galaxy. However, it is the writer's choice in whether or not he wishes to further the future of a Canon Company. In order to properly adopt a canon company, please follow the below rules.

To claim a Canon Company, create your Company submission. At the bottom of the submission, please post an announcement in bold. "This is a canon company." Below your announcement, link to the Canon Company's
wookieepedia page.
*Please note that adopting a new canon company will not give you a boost in
tier. You may only start at a maximum of Tier 2.
  • A writer may only own one Canon Company.
  • Your Canon Company may not own other Canon Companies as subsidiaries unless they are directly referenced in the Wookieepedia as being owned by that Canon Company.
  • Each Canon Company Subsidiary must have another character not owned by you labeled as it's CEO/Director and must have their own Company submission.
  • Once approved, you may write that Canon Company's storyline as you wish. How did they survive the Gulag Plague? The story is yours.

Transferring Ownership of an Active Canon Company
  • If an active owner of a Canon Company wishes to transfer ownership to another writer who does not currently own a canon company, they must complete a development thread showing the transfer.
  • The new owner must create a new submission of their own for the same Company name.
  • A factory judge presiding will alert a Roleplay Judge, who will then attempt to contact the current active owner.
  • If the Roleplay judge confirms the transfer, Role-play Judge will then alert an Administrator who will then transfer ownership of the canon company and current tier level to the new Canon Company Owner, along with any edits made. The old submission will then be archived.

Inactivity With Canon Companies
Below is the information regarding inactivity with Canon Companies and the guidelines for claiming an inactive company.

  • If a Canon Company Owner is absent for more than 30 days, any writer who does not already own a canon company may contest your claim by creating a submission of their own for the same Company name.
  • The Factory Judge presiding will alert a Role-play Judge, who will then attempt to contact the previous Canon Company Owner.
  • If the Role-play Judge fails to contact the previous Canon Company Owner within 72 hours anddeems the Canon Company Owner inactive, the Role-play Judge will then alert an Administrator who will then transfer ownership of the canon company along with one level tier drop (may not fall under Tier 3) to the new Canon Company Owner, along with any edits made. The old submission will then be archived..
  • If a canon company owner has been contacted previously with a contesting canon company claim, upon the second inquiry the owner must show themselves to be active in order to keep the canon company. Activity can be demonstrated with a substantial RP thread or 3+ Factory submissions which took place within the 60 days prior to the second inquiry. Activity after the second inquiry will not be taken into consideration.

Inactive Canon Company Owners And Regaining Previous Work
If your canon company has been claimed by another writer due to your inactivity, the original canon company owner may do the following to reclaim the work they had originally completed:
  • The writer may create a new original company submission requesting the tier level from their previous canon company submission.
  • In the new submission, please link the archived canon company submission showing all your work and the Tier Level gained.
  • A factory judge presiding will alert a Factory Roleplay Judge, who will then review and confirm the work from the archived canon company submission and the Tier level addendum.
  • Once verified by the RPJ, the new company submission will be approved at the previously worked for canon company tier level along with any edits made.
List of Player Owned Canon Companies
Once you have submitted your canon company and it has been approved, a Role-play Judge or Administrator will add it to this list.
Please click
in the link below to take you to the current list of Canon Owned Companies

Company Expansion and Growing in Tier
  1. You may not advance more than one Tier in a single request. Threads already used for advancement from one tier to the next or made during a previous tier will not count towards a new tier advancement. If your development is one lengthy consistent thread, we will talk about it on a case by case basis.
  2. Each linked thread may only be used to fulfill one of the sub-requirements for each tier level. ( IE: No double-dipping the same thread to fulfill a major project and a contract.)
  3. If your company is a service company and not a production company, you may be able to replace the requirement of Tech Subs with additional "misc threads" or Codex Subs relative to the company's operations.
  4. Typical threads a company seen for growing in tier level are the following:
o Threads wherein your products are sold in bulk to minor factions, major factions, or NPC organizations.
o Threads wherein your company is a central element.
o Threads wherein your company expands, here meaning actual, tangible growth and not the creation of a subsidy.
o Threads wherein products are developed.
o Threads wherein a service is being provided.
o Marketplace transactions do not count towards tier advancements.

Major Projects
  1. The definition of a 'Major Project' is to create, produce, or service something that would have a sizable impact on the growth of your company. If said project sways the outcome of something during a galactic event or on a grand scale, more kudos to you.
  2. For the development of these projects, the production, possession, or the service of the project must be the thread or threads major focal point. Projects may be done in a single thread or in a series of threads.
  3. Note, dominions and invasions will be reviewed, but only those posts that pertain to the actual project will count.
Tier Upgrade Requirements

Use the following template for your Tier Up requests. Simply select the Tier Up template in the spoiler below for the level you desire and fill in the requirements therein. As always, these numbers are flexible, they are just a general guideline.

Tier I to Tier II

  • Sign a contract with at least one faction or organization (May be NPC).
  • Make at least three minor-production products.
  • Complete two miscellaneous threads.
Tier II to Tier III
  • Sign a contract with two more factions or organizations. (May be NPC).
  • Make an additional three mass-production products.
  • Complete three miscellaneous threads.
Tier III to Tier IV
  • Sign a contract with three player-run organizations, one of which must be a major faction OR a Tier V+ company.
  • Make an additional three mass-produced products..
  • Complete four miscellaneous threads.
  • Successfully complete a project of sizable proportions. (~100 posts)
Tier IV to Tier V

  • Make an additional three mass-produced products.
  • Complete five miscellaneous threads.
  • Successfully complete a project of major proportions. (~200 posts)
  • Obtain the sponsorship of a major faction or a 100 post dev thread expanding business in another way.
Sponsorship is essentially when a sufficiently large major faction decides to back your company's endeavors specifically. This can either be by them giving you a large, direct annual subsidy, signing a long-term contract, and other things that would tie the government of that faction and your company close together. Or additional development may be supplemented by conducting a 100 post dev thread expanding business in another way. (May be in several threads or one. Dominions and Invasions do not qualify.)

Tier V to Tier VI
  • Sign a contract with two more major factions OR Tier V+ companies.
  • Make an additional four mass-produced products.
  • Complete six miscellaneous threads.
  • Successfully complete a project of immense proportions. (~300 posts)

Known Owners of Unique Canon Items

Due to the high interest in canon items and a desire to streamline these requests, the list of Last Known Owners of Canon Items will now be officially regulated by the Factory Staff. All desired claimed Canon Items would be required to go through the same Factory approval process as SW Chaos Technology, Vehicles, and Starships and restricted items.

Note, this is for unique items such as
holocrons, artifacts, named canon ships, etc.

Unique Canon Item Claim and Factory Submission Rules
Due to the timeline, it is assumed most canon items such as artifacts, starships, and technology went missing or was lost during the Gulag Plague. However, it is the writer's choice in how to go about searching, discovering, and claiming the canon item but please follow the below rules.
  1. Create your Unique Canon Item Factory submission in the Factory respective to the type.(Technology, Vehicles, Starships.)
  2. At the bottom of the submission, please post an announcement in bold. "This is a canon item."
  3. Below your announcement, link to the Canon Item’s Wookieepedia page.
Owning a Unique Canon Item or Artifact
  1. Each writer may possess no more than a total of 5 Canon items across all their characters. Factions, companies, and other organizations are unable to claim canon items.
  2. Each claim for a canon item must have their own development thread. Depending on the canon item, dev thread requirements may fluctuate.
  3. Each Canon item must have their own Factory submission appropriate to its class. I.E. Technology, Vehicles, Starships.
  4. Once approved, you may now request to claim it on the Known Owners of Unique Items and link your approved submission.

Inactivity With Unique Canon Items

  1. If a Canon Item Owner is absent for more than 30 days, any writer who has not exhausted their 5 canon item slots may contest your claim by creating a submission of their own for the same Canon item. ( Linking as Primary Source the previous Factory submission to it if any and the Canon Wookieepedia Link.)
  2. The Factory Judge presiding will alert a Role-play Judge, who will then attempt to contact the previous Canon Item Owner.
  3. If the Role-play Judge fails to contact the previous Canon Item Owner within 72 hours and deems the Canon Item Owner inactive, the Role-play Judge will then alert an Administrator who will then transfer ownership of the original submission to the new Canon Item Owner, along with any edits made.
