DESCRIPTION

Entumaa is a small independent publishing house. It focuses on artistic literature, but also publishes intellectual works on political, cultural and religious topics. It regularly solicits translations from and into Mirialan and Snivvian. It used to be that the founder and owner would meet every author personally before the company grew too large. His son, who now owns the business, prefers to rarely show his face at all. How he nonetheless manages to stay informed and regularly interfere in the selection of material to be published is a mystery.

RATIONALE

Entumaa was founded by Lerras Entumaa after he inherited the business empire built around the core of a bank by his forebears. As his pet project, it spent many years in unprofitability, absorbing much of the family's wealth. Success set in eventually when Entumaa managed to acquire a manuscript from the war-ravaged core that had been conquered by the Sith: a novel of epic length, it details the fate of a doctor and painter, torn between his feeling of humanitarian duty and his artistic calling, and the woman he loves, who is prevented from realising her dreams of family life, as both are thrown around by the vagaries of nonsensical politics. Translated from, surprisingly, the original Arkanian, the narration left the protagonists' species unspecified and was widely acclaimed for its insight into the sentient condition.

After Lerras Entumaa's death, the company was inherited by his son Jartris, who so far has done little more than what was necessary to keep it more or less on track. Recently, however, he has come to consider the question of how to turn the publishing house into a tool for increasing his influence.

What a thoughtful and interesting submission. I'm so encouraged when I see submissions that aren't actively geared to warfare or that sort of thing.
