STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES (Required: 2 Weaknesses Minimum):

“I break the rules not because it suits me, but because sometimes the rules get in the way of the greater good.”

Regarded as something a maverick by his tutors, Elmont was wise for his years and no one could deny how faithful – however unorthodox – he was to the Jedi cause. As a proponent of the Living Force concept, his many attempts to help lesser creatures exemplified his code. Whereas never truly at odds with the Jedi Code, it appeared rebellious enough to single him out as ‘difficult’ in the eyes of the Jedi. His willingness to speak his mind without filtering his thoughts was another aspect that added to the label of aloof and awkward.

Strengths – Wise, faithful, compassionate

Weaknesses – Defiant, a maverick, tactless

APPEARANCE:

Elmont was tall and wiry with short brown hair and fair skin. His lack of interest in personal appearance meant he would often go days without shaving and his hair could range from immaculately brushed to wild and unkempt.

His most striking physical characteristic had to be his eyes. They were a remarkable shade of blue.
In terms of clothing, he wore standard fare Jedi robes, which were invariably light in shade – and often crumpled in appearance.

BIOGRAPHY:

Summary

Elmont had always been seen as an unconventional Jedi. His actions often placed himself in conflict with the Jedi teachers at the Academy. His refusal to accept even the simplest of explanations was seen as awkward at best and dangerous at worst. For a period of time he was only one wisecrack away from being assigned to the AgriCorps. Yet his tutors saw in him someone deeply attuned to the Living Force, which contributed to him frequently volunteering to help seemingly weak and useless life-forms. And despite a level of questions that might have had him labelled as lacking in intelligence, he was regarded as sharp-witted and possessing great wisdom for one so young.

Early life

Elmont lived his life by an old Jedi mantra – “Life does not treat you fairly or unfairly, it merely is. It is up to each of us to be fair, or unfair.”

He was taken as an infant to Ossus to train and become a Jedi when he was discovered to have Force potential. Once there, he maintained no ties with his homeworld or his family.

At the age of seven, Elmont and his initiate class were under the watch of a supervisor and their task was to scale the cliff that housed the hangar. Once completed, the instructor then said that they would scale it again without cables a week later under the supervision of a Jedi Master. Elmont doubted the validity of the delay, or the need for an overseer and so stayed behind to try and scale it on his own. The young boy fell and broke many bones – spending a whole month in recovery.

At nine years old, he participated in the Youngling tournament – facing off against others up to five years his senior. Elmont easily beat all of his opponents and finally faced off against a boy that had never lost a spar. Elmont’s superior skills allowed him to easily win the fight. Yet despite this prowess, no Master came forward to claim the young man – his reputation for being awkward and challenging was too well known.

So he reached the age where Younglings that were not taken by a Master were assigned to
membership in the AgriCorps. Although in theory completely voluntary, the assignment to the Corps was handled formally by the Council of Reassignment. And as a typical 13-year old, Elmont had no desire to grow crops for under-privileged star systems – even if they were suffering from natural disasters or blight. But for a while he was convinced it was a step towards re-joining the Order later once he was able to demonstrate a level of compliance his history to date had failed to register.

But ultimately Elmont saw assignment to the Corps as a demotion, despite the Corps providing a great many necessities. And one day he slipped away and decided to explore the galaxy under his own supervision.

Three years passed and he learned much of life and the galaxy but his development as a Jedi had not progressed. And his desire to learn was a hunger now and so he sought out a Master and perhaps an Order to allow his progression as a Jedi.

Abilities and traits

Elmont had a subtle attention to detail and could sense mood changes in the people around him and was quite adept at hiding his emotions from other individuals, even other Jedi. He was also open about his opinions to the point of near-tactlessness. He considered caring for one’s physical appearance a futility. However, his looks and behaviour were not unanimously approved within the Jedi and he picked up the rather hurtful nickname ‘Bantha’ for his often scruffy appearance. His critics also criticised him for taking ‘every word’ from his own mouth as a pearl of wisdom.

“Use your opponents’ strategies against them and you take away their power. Get your opponents to lose their grace, and they will lose their purpose. Do not meet hate with hate. Meet it with purpose.”

Elmont was one of the finest swordsman in the Youngling ranks, having frequent sparring experience with many Padawans and Knights – and even the occasional Master. He preferred the fourth Form of lightsaber combat, Ataru. In combat, his bladework was wide and powerful, marked by heavy, two-handed slashes and sudden flourishes to cover his flanks. His focus was such that he could easily defeat blaster-wielding opponents despite the form’s weakness to blaster fire. Unlike most proponents of the Form, he did not typically engage in the energetic acrobatics typical of most Ataru specialists, and tended to stay grounded during lightsaber duels. Yet he was fully capable of utilising acrobatic attacks and manoeuvres during combat – he simply chose not to, feeling the moves flashy and a distraction. He was also capable of effectively employing unarmed combat strikes into his lightsaber sequences – being a proponent of Stava, Tae-Jitsu, Rek’dul and Hijkata. And he had been taught the basics of Teräs Käsi and had been working on increasing his proficiency for the past three years.

Elmont was not without his weaknesses. Too often he relied on his physical attributes over experience and intuition. And his effectiveness with a saber did not overcome the Form’s key flaws, namely a weak defence and a lack of effectiveness in confined spaces.

“The perfect attack begins with your attention. Every pebble can be an obstacle or an opportunity. Hone your focus. Add speed, timing, strategy, surprise. Do not forget the Force is with you.”

Elmont had also spent time gaining knowledge of other weapons – if only to understand how to combat them. So he was proficient with staffs, pikes, whips, blasters and an assortment of melee weapons.

“Remember, concentrate on the moment. Feel, don’t think. Trust your instincts.”

During combat, Elmont would adjust his technique based on the needs of the moment, rather than focusing on any overall strategy.

Elmont believed heavily in what was referred to as the ‘Living Force,’ a method of focusing on the moment rather than contemplating the Force in all its degrees. His early training covered all of the basics and he had considerable skill with telekinesis; Force Push and Saber Throw.

He was also skilled in mind tricks and had some knowledge of Force healing. One of his more obscure abilities was Animal Friendship. In addition, he was able to use the Force to heighten his senses – especially his sense of smell.

During his travels, he catalogued a vast knowledge of the architecture of many ships and understood their abilities and vulnerable points, including their engineering and structure. And a second benefit of so much space travel was a fluency in many languages.
