Description:
The EMU-1 incorporates the high tech analysis engines used in the EMBU droids, with the capability of a stasis pod. In essence, it's an emergency rescue vehicle that's capable of flying into hostile situations, landing, securing the area with its blaster cannons, securing its wounded cargo in the stasis pod, returning to flight, and bringing the injured person back safely to a secured location where the injured being can receive medical attention. In this sense, it acts both as a war droid and a medic droid, although its primary function will never have it seen on the front lines of a war en masse, but flittering in and out to retrieve wounded only.

The stasis pod is only capable of supporting one being at a time, and they must be human, near-human, or a species of humanoid body shape in order for the droid to be able to rescue them. The pod cannot support anything of a massive size such as the Hutts. This limits its capabilities in some situations because it may not be able to air lift a patient that need it. While the EMU-1 is sufficiently equipped to deal with personnel situations, its weapons are useless against armor and heavily armored enemies. It does have a chaff launcher to potentially defeat missiles, but it would not be able to secure an area if an armored vehicle were present, thus forcing it to abandon its directive. It is also not shielded against EMP blasts, which would effectively render it useless.

In order to get injured personnel into the pod, the Mantis lowers itself so that the pod is on the ground. The upper half of the pod lifts, leaving the rear nearly flush with the ground. A pair of specialized arms slide out a harness which are then fitted to the injured beings body. The harness is equipped with very small repulsorlifts, which are designed to lift the injured being from the ground just enough that the arms can draw the being into the pod with minimal effort. Once inside, the pod seals, and begins the process of stabilizing the wounded individual while the droid begins its return process functions.

The EMU-1 is coded for friend and foe based on the desires of the client and is capable of battlefield reprogramming in instances where allies may also need assistance. This does provide a flaw in that the system could subsequently be hacked by a good slicer and the droid turned against those it's supposed to be helping. This system works based on a rapid fire computational analysis of equipment and gear that individuals are wearing. In essence, the programming that the droid receives is largely based on military garb and insignias. The droids processor is quick enough that it's able to analyze its landing zone in seconds to determine friendly units from enemy units based on armor, uniform, insignia, or even species. This same system is already in use in the Echani Mimic Battle Droid which was designed by one of EIC's member companies: EchaniTech.

Overall, the EMU-1 Mantis is a sufficient search and rescue vehicle that should be able to manage most situations in combat or out where the rescue of wounded is a necessity.

Strengths:
  • Flight
  • Stasis pod
  • Standard ray shield generator
  • Advanced Friend/Foe ID
  • Standard Sensor/Scanner
Weaknesses:
  • Light armament
  • Not EMP shielded
  • Not projectile shielded
  • Takes time to hook up the harness and cannot move while doing so
  • Limited to human or near-human species
  • Can be hacked

Research Review
  • http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/R-1_recon_droid -A small floating droid, the Arakyd Industries R-1 recon droid lacked any tools or hands, but could move through the openings that most of its potential targets could not. It could easily track possible targets, and its internal blaster allowed it to kill a target if need be. The recon droid could be used to scout areas without risking a living observer, spot targets forsnipers or starship Orbital bombardment, seek out wanted criminals, or follow suspected individuals
  • ILF-5000 Life Form Scanner - The ILF-5000 was a specialized scanner that was tuned to locate and identify life forms. The device could hold data on ten species at a time and would automatically indicate if it detected one of them. If it detected a life form not programmed into it, it would just give the size, distance and direction of the life form.

Without Dev Threads
  • Could you please elaborate just how the Mantis gets a patient into the stasis pod?
  • What is used to identify friend or foe? You say advanced programming, but haven't specified the technolgy. Is it programmed for the client at purchase? I linked in the research review a base for you in ID along with limitations.
  • Since you are also using an program used to ID friend or foe, the should also the possibility for this droid to get hacked and become compromised, so please add this as a weakness.
  • For ease of convenience, can you clearly list special features and weaknesses in a list format?
