ADVANCED SYSTEMS
STRENGTHS
  • Fighter-Killer: Edict-class Corvettes are highly specialized against small craft. Advanced targeting software, rapid-fire blasters with wide fire arcs, and cluster munitions like flak cannons and cluster concussion missiles allow Edicts to constrain, lock onto, and annihilate starfighters. Edicts are also faster and more maneuverable than is typical for vessels of their size, with boosted sublight engines and maneuvering thrusters. This helps them to keep up with the fighter squadrons and space transports they hunt, rapidly maneuvering to bring all of their specialized killing tools to bear.
WEAKNESSES
  • Overspecialized: Edict-class Corvettes were built to do one job, and while they do that job well, they are not flexible. In a straight fight against most other Corvettes, they are likely to lose, and they will certainly lose unsupported against any combat ship bigger than they are. Their armor and shields are strong enough to hold up when fighting starfighter squadrons and smuggling vessels, but heavy fire from frigates or destroyers will rapidly shred them. At the same time, Edicts have guns that are designed to destroy smaller craft, and struggle to effectively penetrate the armor and shields of larger ships.
DESCRIPTION
In the days of Sheev Palpatine's Galactic Empire, the Imperial Navy was often a powerful but clumsy hammer. It could crush any fleet arrayed against it, but it struggled to be nimble enough to react to hit-and-run attacks or masses of starfighters. As the Rebel Alliance continued to win significant victories through these tactics, the Imperial Navy slowly began to adapt, producing ships like Raider-class Corvettes to rapidly chase and destroy starfighters. Darth Solipsis's Galactic Empire of the 10th century ABY sought to learn from this ancient lesson early by producing the Edict-class Corvette to cover vulnerabilities in its larger ships.

Designed to work in tandem with Dunney-class Customs Frigates in system policing operations, and to cover Imperial III-class Star Destroyers during fleet combat, Edict-class Corvettes are designated fighter-hunters. Their guns are not large or powerful enough to make much of a dent in anything bigger than they are, but they make up for it with sheer volume of fire - fire that is sufficiently powerful to absolutely shred typical starfighters and shuttles. Edicts are faster than average for corvettes, and their weapon tracking is excellent, with advanced targeting software to help them stay locked onto fast-moving targets.

Each weapon on an Edict was chosen with care. The side-mouted autoblaster turrets ensure that the corvette has few blind spots, and can fire at incoming fighters from almost any angle. The forward-mounted flak cannons contain explosive micro-flechette canisters; when they burst, a cloud of razor-sharp projectiles fills the target space, capable of shredding any small craft that flies through them. Forward-mounted laser cannons give the Edict a stronger weapon to penetrate the shields and hulls of shuttles, freighters, and other midsize craft. An underslung launcher fires clusters of five concussion missiles at a time.

Each Edict has room for five four-man squads of spacetroopers, for a total of twenty troops. These troopers are present to assist with boarding actions on disabled ships; since the corvettes are small, it is easier to have them conduct boarding and inspection or seizure of intercepted starships than to have the much larger Dunney-class dock. If the Edict is fitted out for battle, rather than customs enforcement, this space is typically swapped out for additional missile storage in a reinforced, droid-operated armory compartment. This helps to ensure that the Edict can continue firing its missile launcher in extended engagements.

Alone, a group of Edicts is vulnerable, overspecialized against small craft.

In tandem, a group of Edicts covers the vulnerabilities of the Empire's large battleships admirably.
