    Hilt: 15 cm

  • Short phase: 35 cm

  • Normal phase: 110 cm

SPECIAL FEATURES

  • Bifurcating cyclical-ignition pulse

  • Pommel cap with backup power cell

  • Three-way length adjustment switch

  • Non-dimetris circuits

  • Spiked knuckle guard
Strengths:

  • Pointy end: It’s a lightsaber, and with an Obsidian nova crystal to boot. It cuts real darn well. Oh, and it lights people on fire. Funtimes.

  • Reliable: The casing and all metallic components are made of phrik; the rest are made of the likewise durable NT-1. This is a hilt that can take a beating, kiss cortosis, get dunked in an ocean, and still work.
Weaknesses:

  • ...mostly: If exposed to light or temperatures below 10°C, the nova crystal will detonate much like a grenade. For this reason, the casing is completely air- and light-tight, well insulated from the elements – especially the cold.

  • Short-stack: The handle is extremely short for a lightsaber. Combined with the basket hilt, this is a weapon absolutely cannot be wielded two-handedly.
DESCRIPTION

This is a lightsaber born of three decades’ worth of battlefield experience. It’s designed by hands that know exactly what they want to wield, and how they want to wield it. There’s not an ounce of excess material in the hilt, and every component is exactly where it should be.

The casing is made of phrik, with a strip of leather wound around the metal for a firm grip. Steering away from the cylinder-shaped norm, this hilt is instead highly ergonomic, fitting snugly in the hand to prevent discomfort in longer engagements. It’s half again as short as what’s normal for lightsabers – this makes using two-handed styles with the hilt impossible, no matter how small the hand of the user.

This shortcoming serves a purpose, however. All the components inside the lightsaber are thus incredibly cramped. With a normal hilt, that’s a bad idea – overheating and failure can occur. However, as this blade was built specifically to house the Obsidian nova crystal, adjustments had to be made to keep it nice and warm. The phrik and NT-1 internals withstand the higher temperatures without issue, and the insulating liner woven with myoflex makes sure the grip doesn’t grow uncomfortably hot in the wielder’s hand.

A final layer of protection comes in the form of the basket hilt extending in an arc from the emitter ring. Likewise fashioned from phrik, it serves to deflect slashes and thrusts aimed at the sword-hand of the wielder, which is ever the weakest link in any duel. Four pointed nubs jut from the metal, providing additional punching power if any opponents move into close-quarters.
