Model: DSD-2 “Dwarf Spider Droid”
Affiliation: CIS
Modularity: no
Production: Mass-Produced
Material: Durasteel
Description:

The DSD-2 is an evolution of the Separatist Dwarf Spider Droid. This droid, unlike its predecessor, is much more heavily armored and armed. To begin, the droid is taller than its predecessor as it stands at 2 meters. It also has 3 separate eyes scattered along its body to allow for sight 180 degrees around the body. The armor is made up of thick durasteel able to withstand most small arms blaster fire, indirect explosives hits and limited direct explosives hits. While the armor is strong, the joints connecting the legs to the body are weak and a good blaster hit or direct explosives hit has a good chance of rendering a leg useless.

For armament, the droid has a single front mounted repeating chain-gun blaster for anti-infantry roles. The blaster is effective against most armored infantry but is weak when dealing with vehicles or strong cover as well as having a high probability of barrel melting after prolonged and sustained fire. The Droid also has two arms, capable of limited movement but able to grab some surfaces with immense strength. Within each hand is a light “High Intensity Laser” meant to cut through vehicle armor. While the laser is effective against most cover and vehicle armor, the process to destroy a vehicle is slow (depending on armor strength can take up to 6 shots) and the beams require a thirty-second recharge after every shot. Prolonged fire from these weapons (more than four – six shots in a 2 – 3 minute span) can cause severe meltdown of the barrels and render both the arms and laser useless. Finally, the large pack on the back of the spider droid is able to carry several grenade munitions (10) which are fire through white ball turrets on either side of the pack.

While the droid is much more heavily armed than its predecessor, its weakness come in the fact that all but the grenades are only able to be fired towards the front. It is also blind to what is behind it unless it turns around completely. The back is also highly vulnerable and where the armor is weakest, sustained small arms fire or a lucky direct explosives hit could trigger the grenade munitions. Depending on the type of grenades that are loaded inside the pack, it could completely obliterate the machine. Even if the resulting explosion does not destroy the machine, the gap in the pack allows for easy targeting of internal components that will short the droid out.
