PRODUCTION INFORMATION
Manufacturer: Visanj T’shkali
Affiliation: Closed-Market
Model: Droid Preservation Unit (DPU)
Modularity: None
Production: Minor-Production
Material(s) /Component(s):
SPECIAL FEATURES:
  • Self-diagnosis and repair system uses nanobots to affect systems-wide repairs throughout the droids in which they are installed, allowing them to fully recover from minor to moderate damage with sufficient time. With the DPU in working order, droids can conduct full-unit repair in as little as a few hours for minor damage to as much as a few days for heavier moderate damage.
  • In the event the DPU is overwhelmed, the droid can seek refuge and enter a low-powered ‘shutdown’ mode, activating an encrypted distress signal for rescue and recovery by allies, with the DPU able to stave off total systems failure for several days, even weeks, until they can be reached.
STRENGTHS:
  • Physician, Heal Thyself - Enables droids to self-diagnosis and repair minor to moderate damage, allowing droids to fully recover from such levels of damage given sufficient time.
  • Get Small, Stay Safe - Emergency distress beacon emits long-range encrypted signal to summon rescue and aid when unable to properly self-repair, allowing droid to seek refuge and enter low-powered ‘shutdown’ mode, reactivating upon rescue or when in peril to seek better asylum elsewhere.
WEAKNESSES:
  • Can’t Fix Everything - The ability to self-repair isn’t unlimited. Significant or extensive damage can overwhelm the DPU, with potentially catastrophic circumstances. In such cases, droids must seek refuge and enter a low-power mode and await rescue, or else must retreat to seek help from skilled technicians.
  • Nano No More - The nanobots which conduct the repairs are themselves unshielded against EMP/Ion damage, and thus while the components’ casing is, the nanobots once deployed are susceptible to damage or disruption by EMP/Ion attack. This means that while undergoing repair, droids whose armored bodies are compromised are vulnerable to having these repairs pre-empted by EMP/Ion, forcing them to take shelter against such threats or risk losing self-repair capabilities.
DESCRIPTION:
Using advanced nanotechnology, Visanj sought to replicate the effects of previous self-repair and sustainment systems in a smaller, more efficient way. The result was the DPU, a shielded and micronized system which constantly monitors the various internal systems and armor of the droid, assessing damage as it is taken, and deploying nanobots to make repairs. With the ability to heal minor damage in a matter of hours, and up to moderate damage in only a few days, the nanobots’ efficiency is impressive to say the least.
The casing of the system is shielded, able to withstand EMP/Ion damage, however the nanobots themselves are not. A secondary blast can disable them, suspending or even ceasing their operations, meaning that seeking refuge to allow sufficient time to heal is needed to ensure maximum performance capabilities. The system cannot repair past moderate damage either, so relentless and extreme attacks can overwhelm it and cause the system to become ineffective. In such cases, the droid will need to take refuge, entering into a low-powered ‘shutdown’ mode, which activates an encrypted distress signal to summon rescue and recovery by allied forces.
