Drinks Are On You

Berry's Bar
Nar shaddaa

Orick wandered into the bar and glanced around, the place was sprinkled with patrons. Some were drinking, while others were paying a little too much attention to what was going on around them. Orick had to struggle not to laugh at the situation, he didn't know the guy that owned the bar, but he knew what the guy did. [member="Khaleel Malvern"] was an interesting person, one that Orick had heard mention of many times in the past few weeks. He adjusted his belt a bit, letting the overly observant folks get a good look at the heavy blaster on his belt. He took a seat at the bar and wiped away a bit of dust that seemed to coat everything inside. This place just happened to have the right amount of dirt and grime that was needed to keep up the illusion of a dive bar.

Orick was impressed with the place, with the exception of the obvious security sitting around the bar, it was easy enough for someone to mistake the place as a common dive bar. " I'll have a water." He said as he sat on one of the stools. He knew enough about places like this that showing his pistol and ordering water were just the kind of things that would stand out to the people in the bar. He wondered how long he would be waiting before someone decided to wonder about why he was here.

Berry’s ain’t no Jimmy’s.

That one thought kept coming back to Khal as he busied himself wiping the counter, filling in the drinks and softly listening to that specific hum that was so characteristic for most bars this time of day. Was just enough to make him forget about Jimmy’s for a moment or two, before the grinning face of Chiasa returned to him.

Why burn a pretty good and decent bar?

Just showed that some criminals simply didn’t have that flash of dignity and respect for the old ways, probably the reason why she disappeared this time around, probably pissed someone off hard enough to really make a problem outta it.

Then T’ane walked in.

A slightly raised brow, before the Underlord smirked to himself and started filling in the order, while humming to himself.

“Here ya go, mister T’ane.” he would finally say, pushing over the glass.

“What's bringing you here to my little bar?”

Orick looked up and tilted his head, it took him a few moments to notice that the man behind the bar was in fact the man he had come here to meet. He nodded as he grabbed the glass from the counter. " Malvren, I would think someone with your reputation would be doing something more important than just tending bar." He smiled and took a sip out of the water. He wasn't sure why someone that was as well known as [member="Khaleel Malvern"] would want to be slinging bottles in a dive like this.

" I heard you were reorganizing things, I happen to be free at the moment, and I hear you can use a hand." He sat back on the bar stool and smiled, he knew the man would want the help, but he wasn't sure exactly what was in store for this new whatever it was that he was building.

“Keeps me straight, mister T’ane.” the Underlord would simply reply with a shrug.

Some men loved to surround themselves with glory and opulence, almost as if to forget their origins and where they had actually come from, but for Khal that wasn’t an option. Because it were those same men who would stop questioning themselves and would go off the deep end into the unknown.

Khal wasn’t planning on having the same happen to him.

“Ya, I got some jobs open.”

Neutral statement, it wasn’t a secret that Khaleel was drawing in all the operations, reorganizing the mess of the Ravens and the reestablishing the Exchange in one fell swoop. Orick wasn’t an unknown, but that didn’t mean a lot these days.

Glories of a connected society.

“What do you bring to the table?”

Orick tried not to laugh at the whole scene, one of the most well connected men was slinging drinks to keep straight. He pondered the question for a few moments before he replied, trying to find the right words with just the right amount of his usual charm. " Well to this specific table, I bring just a class of water." holding up his glass he smiles and places the glass on the counter again. Smiling his talk turned serious, " You know what I bring, smuggling and information. there isn't a port in the galaxy I can't get goods into, or out of, as long as the price is right."

Glancing around the bar would only confirm that the only people even paying attention to him were the toughs in the corner.Orick " If that's not good enough for you, then I got nothing" He shrugged and took a sip of the water. it was a bit metallic in taste and obviously was the best quality, but it did the job of quenching his thirst. The bar had a quaint ambiance that was beginning to notice the longer he sat inside of it, just the right touch of homeliness to make someone forget to think that the man behind the bar was anything other than a bartender

Ya could find out a lot about a man just by looking at the way he talked and just by seeing how he behaved himself while he was talking right now.

Oh, Khaleel knew what Orick brought to the table, his people wouldn’t have been doing their jobs right if he didn’t, but there ain’t anything like having a man tell you what they had. Depending on how they brought it up and how much they boasted about it, you could find out a lot.

Did he learn anything new from this short listening session? Perhaps not.

But perhaps that had been the entire point of the exercise.

“Mhm.” the Underlord would muse, not giving out any opinion just yet.

At the same time Orick could reasonably assume that the interest was there, otherwise he wouldn’t have been talking with Malvern here, that just ain’t how things worked at Berry’s.

“Yeah, I think I got a spot for ya.”

Khal scratched his chin, pondering. There were a few options they had here, most of which came back down to ships, the man was a smuggler and so he would know his way around them. But giving him his own cell right off the bat would probably be a little bit too much, not after five lines of conversation.

Actually…

“I actually got something sensitive that needs to be transported right now, need it at Fondor and I need it there real fast.”

“Possible for ya?”

Fondor...

Orick thought about the hassles of getting into Fondor. Omega territory could always prove tricky, but as long as he could rationalize the cargo he was delivering, he could make it happen. He just wasn't sure what the man wanted him to drop off. at Fondor. " What are you looking to move? I don't need to know the details of the item, just proportions and weight, and the like. Once I have an idea of what it is, I can arrange cargo that can be used to mask its presence on the ship." Finishing the water he set the glass back on the counter, near the man.

He was sure that whatever the package was that it would be safe and sound on the ship, smuggling was one of the few things that Orick did better than anyone he knew, and if this was some sort of test, well he wasn't ashamed to show off his skills. He was proud of the fact that he could get items where they weren't supposed to be.

“About 420 kilos.” the Underlord would reply, seemingly from the top of his head.

The merchandise were three hundred Hekler’Kok Resistance SMGs, they weren’t considered the best of the best, but they were dirty cheap and about everywhere in the Galaxy. You couldn’t track Hekler’Kok guns anymore these days, they were like the YT-1300 L freighter, but minutes the deep rich history and extensive capabilities.

He then gave him the dimensions and few other details that Orick would need to pull this job off successfully.

“I am gonna share the ride with ya until we hit Duro, that’s gonna be my own stop.”

A shrug.

“Any more questions?”

Orick nodded as he began to do the calculations in his head of hat he would need to get to add to the load to hide the weapons. the best thing to hide weapons in was always something that had such a foul odor that no one wanted to go diving into it to search for contraband. He needed a fish of some type something that was nice and ripe that would keep security agents away.

" Alright, you want to come, you can help do the dirty work then. You're giving me almost nothing to ship to Fondor, which won't fly at all. I'm at docking bay 12 at the spaceport in the Corellian sector. Order 70 tons of Juggerhead fish and have them delivered to the ship. We can hide the weapons in there. they smell so bad, no one will want to go in there for a few basic slugthrowers. We can sell them pretty easily when we get there, but if we show up almost empty then we will get stopped and searched."

He dropped a couple of credits on the counter and nodded, "I'll have the ship prepped and ready to fly as soon as you get there."

“Duly noted, cap.” the Underlord would reply with a nod.

There was a resistance moving going on on Fondor - Herglic insurgency. Khal didn’t really work with politics and the sort, but these whales had big pockets and knew how to make something worth his while.

Orick was right, three hundred guns wasn’t exactly a load that could end and start wars, but luckily that wasn’t the goal of the mission either away. What most people knew was that Hekler’Kok was a manufacturer owned by one Corek, a man who has supported the ideals of the Omega Protectorate for a very, very long time now.

And it was this support that was going to be undermined - to a degree. Khal doubted that the Protectorate leadership would really go for the trick, the guns were simply too widespread to be considered a good method of framing a man’s company.

But perhaps it would make the earth more fertile for seeding distrust later on.
