First Reply Drifting in Hutt Space

Location: Near Nar Kaaga

It was deathly quiet on the tiny freighter as it drifted in space. There was a certain chill in the air as well that made Zane shiver despite the blanket that was wrapped on him. He sat at the cockpit of the EE-775 as he stared out into the vast space. Slowly blinking as he found himself drifting to sleep. It wouldn't have been so bad under normal circumstances, but in this case Zane has a problem.

The hull of EE-775 appeared to be damaged like it experienced a dog fight with someone. Port side of the engine was malfunctioning as it refused to switch on. Starboard remained operational, however jumping to lightspeed was a major risk given the external damage had also affected the hyperdrive system. Zane knew how to fix it, but the issue was that he didn't have any parts on hand to even rig the system. It was an escape plan that had gone wrong, and he only escaped thanks to the small jump.

Zane had been missing for so long that he honestly couldn't remember what the number of days were. After the experiments that were done to him and the training regiment. The young man stopped counting at some point as there was no sun nor indication of time. He still wasn't sure what was done to him other than it was some kind of stimulant. The kind that enhanced his senses, but it always made him feel sick. Now it seems like that enhanced sensory effect was going on all the time, and with it came different issues. Such as sensory overload whether it's by touch, taste, or smell. He could no longer eat certain food because it overwhelms his taste buds.

The young man sighed before he reluctantly got up from the cockpit. Zane kept to his routine of stretching and light exercises to keep his body active. He walks over to the kitchen as the lighting was dim given that Zane lowered a lot of systems output to conserve energy. Opening the pantry where lots of preserved food was neatly organized and labeled as to what the meal was and how much he should eat. Counting down to the meals could last him for another twenty days worth of hours, and maybe forty if Zane really rationed out what he eats.

Once Zane got his meal of preserved meat and fruit. He walks over to the communications terminal as the only thing that Zane did not take power away was his communication system. He messed with the frequency on occasion to see if he could hop onto someone’s communication line and see if he could get help. However, it has already been about seventy hours now since he heard anything. According to the navigation system however, Zane was roughly at the edge of Hutt Space. So the young man reckoned that he could run into someone given that the routes were regularly traveled.

Zane had half of a mind to just take the engines and try his luck on getting to Nar Kaaga given that it was the closest planet to him now. However with no lightspeed it probably would take about an hour or so. An hour of consuming fuel and power to the ship. Probably more than that given that only one out of two engines properly work. However his luck might turn up soon, and so Zane pays close attention to the communications relay for a little bit longer. Who knows. Maybe someone might happen to drop on him? But the chances of that happening was one in a million.

Despite the odds that were slowly stacking against him, Zane just might make it out of this predicament alive. There was an alert of something approaching initially at incredible speeds. The sound drew his hazel eyes over to the scanner which revealed a blip on the screen. He felt hope starting to swell up, but past experience taught him to not ride on it. At least not all the way. Especially within Hutt Space even though it was on the border there would be plenty of shady people looking for anything to make a quick credit. Even if it meant tearing a damaged ship apart.

Sure enough six more blips came on the radar and they were coming towards him fast. With just one engine, Zane knew that he wouldn’t be able to outrun them if they were going to attack him. He held his breath, bracing for the attack, as Zane knew there would’ve been no way of running or escaping this time. Instead of an attack, there was a voice that spoke over the communications. Suddenly that ray of hope grew brighter as he hurriedly responded.

"This is the owner of Emerald Wing, I would appreciate it if you could get me to a shipyard. There was a run in with some pirates and while I got away the ship took some damage that I cannot fix at the moment." In technicality it wasn't a lie. He was attacked by the slavers who were trying to keep him under a tight leash. But who knew that he would break out of his cell, hack into the security droids, and force the facility to go on lockdown? At least in this case he could both get help and get some protection from the thugs.

However, if a search in the system about the Emerald Wing was conducted it would've come up as past due with renewing the ship's registration. Of course Zane didn't know of it as he just hopped on whatever ship was available and took off.

"It's been quiet for over 70 hours now. But I suppose this could've been a trap. Very well then, carry on. I'll see if I can get this junk over to Nar Kaaga." There was a clear mistrust and frankly Zane had no clue as to where he came from. Anything else would've been flagged for suspicion. Frankly he didn't really have time for it as Zane rationed the food supply to last him for a while. Oxygen levels might run out before the food does.

Zane then proceeds to head over to the cockpit and starts powering up the ship. Isolating the fuel line from the port side engine so that he wouldn’t be wasting fuel. Even so the starboard engine sputters to life. He remembered the last time he tried to pilot with just one engine. Least to say he wasn't a fan of just spinning around.

Zane alters the stabilizers on the wings and roughly turns the nose of the ship towards the direction of Nar Kaaga. Even more roughly he starts to accelerate the ship to cruising speed as it keeps turning from the right to the left and vice versa. Zane is doing his damnest to keep it flying straight.

Truthfully Zane wasn't familiar with Kazutal, but he definitely was familiar with Nar Shadaa. That was where some of those droid fights were being done, and unfortunately he still owed some people there as well. Not to mention Zane no longer had a droid fighter so he wouldn't have any bargaining chips on hand. At the same token, Nar Kaaga wasn't better off. The downside was that it did held pit fights, but the participants weren't droids. Most people that go in those pits never come out alive. That thought wasn't exactly appealing to say the least.

However when the man over the communications spoke again like he was saying a small speech. From the sounds of it the guy must have been a soldier or just a man with little regard for his own safety. Truthfully Zane never understood those type of people. Still the young man slowed down before he responded. As he wasn't comfortable having to constantly adjust his steering just to stay straight as possible.

"I'd rather go to Kazutal to be honest. If anything I can help around if any of your droids need fixing or repairing something else."
