Dreams and Nightmares

Each time the dream began the same way; A sound like thunder, and a flash like lightning and then the frantic pounding of the maddened heart thumping endlessly against the inside of the girl's chest.

The thunder loud roar and lighting bright flare against tightly closed eyelids would seem to pulse in and out of existence almost as quickly as her racing heart beats.

As was always the sensation within this dream she knew she could not move. Paralysed and powerless in this place she was alone with the thunder-light. Trapped inside herself, blind and immobile she nonetheless felt every inch of her skin prickling and chilled to the point of goosebumps. She felt no surface below her, in fact she struggled to decide which direction might be below in this place.

For a time it would remain like this, it felt like it might be forever. Then as suddenly as the noise thunder noise would begin it would suddenly cease, and for a single moment there was utterly nothing.

Sound slowly returned, distorted and dim in her recovering state, she eventually became aware that she was surrounded in cold viscous liquid rather than air. She remembered nothing of who she was, or why she was here, any attempt to reach such information met only a vague fuzzy space were her concentration immediately failed and she felt exhausted by the mere thought of exploring her memories further.

So she rested again, motionless in the icy weightless black, with only the slow bubbles for company.

Presently shadows of memories returned; Pain, such pain and loss, the detail of her pain was lost to her but the feelings that accompanied them flooded her form. Pain and loss brimmed over to something new, resentment, hot and prickly coughed into life and the little form felt warm once more as if the mere emotion was enough to warm the icy tank around her. She felt muscles tense then, though she still lacked any control of her form.

Then the world seemed to shift, her whole body felt hot now, her muscles tightened further and she felt twitching spasms across her chest, her legs, her jaws, even her tightly closed eyes.

Flame. Anger. Rage. She needed to roar; to flail to strike out and expend the ball of energy that seemed to burn in the pit of her guts.

Thunder and Lightning staccato resumed without warning and the tiny world of her sensations was lost to her once again.
