OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a species that can be used as an antagonist for a soon-to-be faction, and can act as a species more commonly seen in the criminal world to help diversify that area of roleplay, and act as convenient pirates for any RP, really.

GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Draxite
  • Designation: Sentient
  • Homeworld: N/A - The Draxite Homeworld is believed to have been lost long ago, and the species now entirely travels in pirate fleets or lives on other planets.
  • Language: Draxitese
  • Average Lifespan: 50
  • Estimated Population: Scattered
  • Description: At a glance, Draxites appear to be vicious-looking, humanoid reptilians, their menacing teeth and glowing four eyes being the most obvious features. Almost all Draxites will have the front of their torso bare and open to attack- a tradition stemming thousands of years back into their culture.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: Type I
  • Average height of adults: 1.96m
  • Average length of adults: N/A
  • Skin color: Gray, with some Reddish and Blue-ish tints to these depending on individuals.
  • Hair color: N/A - Draxites do not have any hair.
  • Distinctions: Draxites, unlike many common species in the galaxy, sport four eyes that allow them to see in a far greater width than most with two. They are almost always in peak physical condition, with very few overweight specimens existing - this is more due to culture rather than genetics, with Draxites always under the threat of having their position physically challenged by another, stronger specimen. Draxite children remain very small, staying at just about 3 feet tall maximum before rapidly growing physically into adulthood, having a very short childhood. As the Draxite mature and reach their 40s, their mental state begins to decay and their brain physically degenerates rather quickly, causing them to go into violent rages and bouts of madness. Sometimes, the oldest specimens rule fleets or groups through fear, and other times, they simply wait in one place to die, and violently attack whatever comes across them. It is difficult to tell much difference physically between a male and female Draxite without examining their physiology, which most are unwilling to allow. Females tend to be thinner and have leaner builds, and slightly higher-pitched voices. Draxites, when seen are almost always wearing armour that covers their back entirely, along with large pauldrons that cover their sides. The front of their torso remains clearly exposed and unarmoured, however.
  • Races: N/A
Strengths:
  • Vision: Thanks to the nature of their four eyes, Draxites can see in an 180 Degree field, allowing them to catch onto those sneaking up onto their sides; along with this, their eyes can see through infrared, and they tend to prefer using this form of vision rather than the normal form of ocular perception.
  • Physical Aptitude: Draxites are a highly physically adept race, being about twice as strong as the average humanoid their size.
  • Sense of Smell: The Draxites have a very acute sense of smell, and can pick up scents of not only specific species, but even individuals if there is something to identify the indvidual with.
  • Adaptability: Draxites have a hardy physiology that allows them to adapt quickly to various threats, with some specimens even showing unique mutations that appear to defend against threats, though these mutations tend to come with negative side effects when they do occur.

Weaknesses:
  • Near-Deaf: Draxites have an awful sense of hearing in comparison to their other senses, and will often completely miss loud noises that would spook other sentients, if they don't have anything they can see that correlates to it.
  • Force Susceptibility: Draxites are particularly sensitive to all the effects of the force, especially those that can deceive or control the mind, much more than other species.
  • Gullible: Draxites are not known for their high intelligence, and they can be quite easily deceived or rused on a tactical or personal level.
  • Never Back Down 2 - The Back Down: Thanks to their heightened survival instincts, Draxites are not actually that hard to intimidate. Even if they largely outnumber a foe, once more than a few of them have fallen, most will break and flee, and they have been commonly coerced into working for crime lords or other causes under fear of pain or death.
  • Lactose Intolerance: Draxites are unable to properly consume Lactose products such as milk and cheese, suffering from abdominal bloating and pain, queasiness and violent vomiting up to ten minutes after consumption.
CULTURE
  • Diet: Draxites eat meat almost exclusively. Though they can eat some forms of processed food, they become physically sick eating any sort of plant-based matter or beings. Most members of the species recoil even at the idea. All Draxites are also lactose intolerant, and are unable to consume any forms of milk or cheese, regardless of the being it comes from.
  • Communication: Most members of the species communicate through what is called Draxitese, a language based on a series of clicks made with the teeth and low guttural noises generated from the throat. Some specimens have shown to be intelligent enough to use basic, often communicating in hissing, frustrated-sounding voices.
  • Technology level: Being a scattered species with no real home, the Draxites do not produce any of their own technology, and raid or steal what they have. As a result, they are generally at the accepted Galactic Standard, if only because almost all of their victims also are.
  • Religion/Beliefs: Though the Draxites have no strict religious belief, the closest they do have is a good luck ritual. If Draxites know that they are soon to fight, they will gather in a central area and begin to sing using their throats in a deep hum, keeping in tune with one another as they do so, to indicate the cleansing away of any issues between their members before the fight begins, in the case of any members dying.
  • General behavior: Generally, most Draxites that live in groups live under a hierarchy kept in place by a modicum of force. Draxites believe the most physically capable warrior should lead them, or at least the one that they believe to be. Draxites are viviparous, giving birth to live young in litters; the maximum born at one time being 15, with the smallest recorded number being six. Despite their seemingly violent and fleeting nature, Draxites mate for life and clearly show affection and attachment to their mates. Despite the differences in structure amongst all sorts of groups that appear, almost all Draxites keep to a form of caste system. In the case of a group that lives amongst a fleet, this may be seperated between ship captains, marines, deck staff and so on. The 'caste' of a Draxite is determined by their combat prowess, though intelligent ruthlessness and cunning has gained members entry into these sort of high positions before. Draxites are xenophobic by nature, and will generally react with outright violence towards non-Draxites if they believe they have the numbers advantage or anything over their potential prey. The species has little in the way of ingenuity or creativity beyond violent pursuits, and those who do express differing ideals and creativity are removed forcibly from their family group, or killed if they refuse to leave. Draxites do not build or farm, stealing or looting almost everything that they have from others to keep going. Most members of the species do not see an issue with this, as they simply see it as the way life is.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Growing into sentience on a now-lost planet somewhere out in the far reaches of the galaxy, the Draxites adapted quickly to their surroundings. Surrounded by predators that moved with silent precision and quick movement, the Draxite people's sight became their greatest weapon, along with their smell to catch the secreting toxins of the snake-like beings who often hunted them. The first, primitive Draxites developed armour that covered the back of their body; the only direction they couildn't see a predator coming from. They left their torso bare, mainly to bait their potential enemies into attacking. As generations passed, the Draxites eventually wiped out their natural predators and became the apex of their planet.

Having developed much later in the galaxy's life than many of the other sentient species within it, the Draxites were a much later developer of space travel, around 426ABY. It was a year after that, that the first Draxite colony ships went out and left their homeworld, wherever it was. It is generally believed today that the entire planet's life was wiped from it by the Gulag Plague. The potential colonist fleet was not safe, either. At some point during the Four Hundred Year Darkness, all the colonists from the fleet were infected, but the disease manifested itself oddly in the rapidly-adapting reptilians. It appeared to take the form of a brain disease that caused rapid-onset psychosis and rabid violence. Even so, eventually the entirety of the crew began to be infected, which is when their species' natural defenses kicked in, and adapted once more.

Rather than somehow overcome the disease, Draxites simply began to be born without the part of the brain that was affected; the part that handled creativity, most forms of empathy and critical thinking. As a result, many of the early survivors were little more than slavering barbarians, serving those who showed more intelligence as warlords. As time went on, the Draxite intellect improved, though not by much.

With the Netherworld crisis causing the amount of force-sensitives in the galaxy to spike, more and more Draxite specimens of that sort appeared. Able to exert a good degree of control over their fellows, they began to lead pirate fleets, stealing and looting anything they could from less protected frontier worlds. They wouldn't dare go even near the Mid Rim or into the territory of any major governments, though. The Draxites have remained in the lawless territories of Wild Space, fighting and destroying anyone they think they're stronger than.

  • There's nothing wrong with this, but I would like you to explain it more in depth. What are the reasons for this? Genetic? Cultural?

  • This is worthy of being added to the Weaknesses list. How severe is their reaction to processed food / lactose?

  • Does this armor remain? If yes, please describe it more in the Distinctions section.

Really nice sub otherwise. Interesting idea, and well on its way to balance. I also dig how you incorporated the Gulag plague into their background – very creative. :D

Clarified on the cause of their fitness being cultural and not genetic, added their Lactose Intolerance to the weaknesses list with an explanation of the severity; more severe than most lactose intolerance for sure, though not lethal for anything. I've also added that their armour remains and how it looks on the end of the Distinctions section.

I hope everything's alright with it now, and I'm glad you like what I've got so far! Much appreciated.
