STRENGTHS
  • Environmental Insulate: The hydrogen/deuterium plasma shield repels atomic and subatomic particles floating through the atmosphere protecting the user from chemical, biological, radio-logical contaminants in the atmosphere isolating a user safely from their environment.
  • Wall of charged particles: Doru Plasma Shield Mark III utilizes a field of charged deuterium or hydrogen particles under the influence of emitters and an artificially generated magnetic field to create a transparent veil around the shielded object. The charged particles interact with objects that came into contact with the transparent plasma field, in the case of high-velocity ballistic projectiles they are superheated by friction when coming into contact with the charged particles it is vaporized and ionized and the resultant vaporized plasma is redirected harmlessly away from the shielded object from the centripetal force generated by the movement of the particles in any medium.
  • Optical advantage: One of the unique properties of the Doru Plasma Shield is that it makes it possible for dynamic "Passive camouflage" and inhibits or warps the passing of photons and other electromagnetic signals around the field, this is a distinct advantage in low light visibility situations as a shielded object takes on the properties of a black body of radiation becoming utterly dark it could be described as "Lightless" and additionally makes it significantly more difficult to detect the object using electromagnetic sensors, however doing so invariably subjects the protected object to the Faraday cage effect which is undesirable.
  • Melee shield: Melee attacks with simple unpowered weapons or even vibroblades are typically unsuccessful against the plasma shield and the weapon is usually destroyed after being superheated and vaporized upon attempting to penetrate the field of charged particles leaving the protected object undamaged, the exception to this is Lightsabers or electro-plasma weapons which emit a strong electromagnetic field and are capable of breaking the shield's subatomic cohesion, passing through it without being interdicted.
  • Shockwaves: Objects protected by the Doru plasma shield are insulated against overpressure waves created by explosions and sonic weapons.
WEAKNESSES
  • Confined spaces: When used in the application of personal armor or a powersuit an individual in a confined space could find themselves unable to move if they are surrounded and the plasma shield is in contact with the environment as a result of generated friction. Thus when a soldier might be moving through tight corridors or hallways it could become necessarily to voluntarily disable the plasma shield.
  • Faraday cage effect: When operating at the wavelength and frequencies that cause even photons to struggle to pierce the plasma shield the protected object cannot send or receive electromagnetic signals beyond their deuterium/hydrogen sheath at a range further than a few dozen meters, which makes it difficult or nigh impossible to maintain communications over long distances if one wants to make use of the optical camouflage.
  • Strong magnetic fields: Formidable magnetic fields are capable of disrupting the cohesion and movement of the charged hydrogen or deuterium particles that make-up the Doru plasma shield, this is best demonstrated by ionic weapons and electromagnetic pulse grenades which breakdown the cohesion and shape of the shield's own electromagnetic field, creating a window where the shielded object or armor is at increased vulnerability.
  • Submerged operations: When submerged in a fluid such as water the plasma shield fails to function as its' constituent particles are distributed in the solution aimlessly and the electromagnetic field's propagation is utterly distorted and warped.
  • Power dependent: The Plasma Shield is reliant on a current to generate power and heat to function properly, if the shield isn't receiving a current from power source such as a starship reactor, power cells etc. It won't provide any protection.
  • Unequal strength: Because of the principles of inertia and friction the plasma shield is necessarily thinner and therefore weaker over certain surfaces and this is seen mainly in applications of armor. The shields on the soles and back of the feet or palms of the hand for example must be near non-existent otherwise a user would not be able to obtain and maintain traction when running or trying to manipulate an object with their hands.
  • Overload: As an amorphous layer of particles that gather and concentrate at a point of impact the most simple way to break the Doru's subatomic electromagnetic cohesion field is to simply overwhelm it with rapid and successive impacts from multiple sources which causes the charged particles to "spread thin" through the field eventually leading to a cascading failure in the field until the particles can re-position themselves.
DESCRIPTION
The Doru plasma shield mark III is a type of energy shield developed and fielded by the League of Sanctified Steel and more specifically their fleet's warships and the defender corps' personal body armor and powersuits. The Doru uses a transparent field of ionized hydrogen or deuterium plasma that is released from a generator through several projectors that must be spread throughout the equipped system and manipulated into an appropriate shape using powerful electromagnets and emitters creating a strong artificial magnetic field fueled by an alternating current power supply. Principles of magnetism and centripetal force generated by the flow of the charged particles makes the field of plasma wrap neatly in a translucent field around whatever it shields, the largest limiting factor to the shield's strength is power supply, generator and number of projectors with man-portable examples of the Doru shield technology being significantly more frail than on larger scales for this reason coming down to a matter of size.

Its' performance against kinetic and energy threats is not equal, against objects accelerating towards the shield as a ballistic missile the hydrogen or deuterium plasma field is highly effective. When an object impacts the shield those hydrogen or deuterium sub-atomic particles collect and gather at the point of impact from the equipped system's projectors and the friction high-velocity projectiles generate when travelling at several hundred meters per second towards the field and come into contact with the particles creates sufficient friction that those objects are super-heated and are vaporizing into into an ionized plasma, this disperses the energy of the missile into a cloud of vapor that is pulled aside and even more dispersed by the electro-magnetic field that holds the hydrogen/deuterium plasma in place, nullifying the weapon's damage but cooling the plasma and removing some of it, draining the field of some particles and therefore weakening its' integrity.

Against directed energy plasma-based weaponry, when a plasma bolt hits it, the electromagnetic pulse interferes with the magnetic field of the plasma shield, causing an imperceptible failure in the projector system and releases some of the contained plasma particulate. The pulse also raises the pressure and electric charge of the shield where it contacts under sustained plasma-based weapons fire it is quickly too much for the shield to handle, disrupting the equilibrium between the electromagnetic force and charged particle's centrifugal force and causing the particles to shear from the field rendering it temporarily inoperable until the electromagnetic field can stabilize.

Love it when people use a boat load of science in their submission. Now we can really get down to the nitty gritty.

Most of it really checks out. Having all the clear weaknesses that I can see. However, you mention that this is can be used as a melee shield due to being able to vaporize the weapon. However, This is mostly due to the friction force that is acted upon it. Thus, the faster the item is moving, the faster it vaporizes. Would someone who could just "introduce" their hand into the shield IE, just sticking their hand in it, vaporize their hand with the shield being that sensitive? Or could there be a possible weakness that if someone could "slowly" introduce a weapon through the shield? If the shielding is super sensitive to any kind of physical contact, then an appropriate weakness of "Not being able to touch anything that is approved." would be a huge weakness for how powerful this shield could be.

Secondly, While I do like how you have mentioned that most weapons would be damaged, what about weapons that can resist such kinds of heat/friction? Say someone using a Beskad, Songsteel blade, or even a Sith sword, as the Sith Swords themselves are electrically charged.

Finally with the introduction of the shield literally warping any kind of radio/signals around the wearer, wouldn't you be able to find where the individual is due to the signal being forced out and around the individual rather than just passing through them?

Hello, I would try to explain an answer. In a event that the shield must come into sustained not wanted contact with the environment or other object the shield might have to be turned off as the particles would generate undesired friction and weaken because of it see "confined spaces" weakness.

Foreign objects could not pass through the shield when active, velocity never matters. If someone tries to press hand through shield slowly, it will generate friction proportionally to effort applied this is why shield in armor application would not normally active on palms or bottom of feet for armor as a soldier must pick-up weapon and run :)

Material with thermal capacity like songsteel blade or beskad would not melt on plasma shield but not penetrate and generate load on shield, weapon with very powerful electromagnetic field as like Lightsaber blade or Snoke's praetorian red plasma blade repel plasma shield particles like in "Strong magnetic field" weakness and pass through the shield.

On intense scrutiny large shield application or numerous small shields could appear as prominent "white body" anomaly for EM sensor equipment and invite investigation.
