On the bridge of the USSR Ivory Patch
The star lanes turned from lines to dots as the fleet came out of hyperspace travel. 2 bulky cargo ships and the lead capitol ship, the one they were on, with its complement of short range defense fighters. The admiral gathered all of the ground agents for a most important meeting.

Once they were all arrayed, he grimly spoke to them in his experienced, graveled voice.

"Ladies. Gentlemen. We are here today to answer a call for salvation. Approximately 28 hours ago, the capital city of Tycho was declared a No Man's Land. The source of this appears to be mass rioting and civil discourse caused by a particularly nasty and effective virus. The rioting has been so absolute that local military and law enforcement have been rendered ineffective. We are talking about a near total economic and societal collapse here, people. This city, and the whole planet for that matter, is reliant on outside aid. Violent rioters are attempting to reach other cities, for reasons unknown, but we have a damn good idea...well, two. Either they're just trying to get the hell out of Dodge or they're trying to raise hell in other places."

"The main mission objective is to find a cure. Intel claims that a cure was in the works and was nearing completion before all hell broke loose. Heurta Memorial Hospital is where you will take a transport to establish a base of operations. There should be staff on site and fully operational facilities to assist in your work. Heurta was the most productive site to work on the cure. Most, if not all, the info on the virus and how it can be cured should be there. It is highly not recommended for you to leave the premise of the hospital, even in your search for the cure. Only attempt it as a last resort and with extreme caution."

"The secondary objective is to save as many lives as we can. Now, we're not here to bring this city back to what it was, if that's even possible. However, the more people we save, the more people we have to rebuild after the carnage. Don't be a hero, but also don't be a cold-hearted rat."

As he had spoken, holo views and pictures of the city had appeared on the screen. The before and after damage reports, vague, far-off shots of the rioters, bloody bodies left to rot in the street while "scavengers" appeared to be hunched over "looting" the bodies. Various scenes of masses running through the streets, toppling cars, smashing glass (and pumpkins...lol) and many other feats were put on display for those gathered to watch.

"I'm not gonna' lie here, folks. This situation is going to be far from easy. Reaching Heurta will put the shuttle's fuel reserves beyond the point of return. However, your insertion into the area should go unnoticed. The intel is not the best, conditions are dangerous, and we haven't had contact with Heurta for 8 hours. Scans haven't shown any sign of riot movement in the area and the building shows no sign of structural damage. It's likely an internal equipment failure, but it's been quite long...Regardless, you have each been chosen because you were the best we could hire for the job. The stakes are high and, as each of you have been negotiated with previously, you know that the rewards are even better. No one will think twice of you if you decide to walk away now."

"For those of you who accept this mission, study up, ready up, and chill out, because you will be departing in one hour. I suggest packing lightly, but you also need to go through the armory, kitchen, and our quartermaster's stock and make sure that you've packed smartly. Standard food and settlement supplies will be loaded into cargo containers and onto the shuttle. However, you each need to figure out what you should bring with you on each of your own persons."

"Move out, people. Time to save Radeon."

(If any of you have questions that your character would ask the admiral or the other crew men, send me the questions in a PM so that it will be easier to stream line this thread)

He listened with a somewhat passive expression on his face. However, this quickly changed upon seeing the footage of the rioters and the overall hellhole that was now the planet. Once the admiral was finished, he slowly took a step back, a look of disbelief on his face. Slowly, he spun around, making his way away from the crew.

Still in disbelief, his right hand slipped into one of the many pockets on his vest, slowly producing a small pack of little cigars. Removing the plastic lid of the small case, his middle and index finger wrapped around a single little cigar as he raised it and placed it in his mouth. Striking a match, he held the flame a half an inch away from the tobacco, watching as the tobacco began to ignite. Once the smoke began to drift up towards the ceiling, he took a quick puff, before blowing smoke up towards the ceiling.

He was obviously regretting his decision, yet still kept telling himself that he was staying until his mission was accomplished. He shook his head slowly, staring at the ground with fear frozen on his face. "Damn..." Was all he was capable of muttering, still staring at the metallic floor. Slowly, he gazed upon the admiral, taking another puff from the little cigar, blowing a smoke ring up towards the ceiling. As he slowly began to regain his thoughts.

"Mother fucking shit." Ross said with a raised eyebrow at the images that were playing across the screens before him. He'd been contracted out by his benefactor to the local government as a gesture of good will. Lucien had interest in the thus far untapped economic potential in the region. Up until this point it had just been a few standard ops, looking for insurgent types and the like (given his background), but this appeared to be a whole separate beast. Cannibalism? City's falling? What in the hell were they about to get into. A slightly customized version of the blaster carbines used by Union Spec Forces sat hanging off of a one point sling that was wrapped around his black assault vest. Various pouches held ammunition and a heavy slugthrower sat on his hip. His checkered suit offset the equipment and combat boots.

He noticed one of the other men around him light up a cigar with a similarly wide eyed expression.

"Mind if I get one of those pal?" Ross asked, his voice tinged with the excitement and fear that accompanied an operation like the one they were about to participate in.

He glanced at [member="Ross Jusik"], before quickly nodding. Once again, he popped open the plastic lid, removing another little cigar before handing it over to the man. "If you need more just ask me. You'll probably want one when were down in that hellhole." He said, taking another puff from the cigar before quickly striking a match, allowing it to burn for a few seconds. "Here..." He said, carefully holding the match out for the man to grab.

He examined the man's armor and weapon, chuckling which revealed his decaying teeth. "Look man, you saw that? Hell, I didn't know we was gonna be down 'ere blastin' away a bunch of berserk motherkarkers...Oh! I got me some nasal snuff, too. Just lemme know if you need any of it, I got plenty." He said, with a bit of panic in his tone.

"Man, I don't know 'bout this. You saw it, I saw it...we all karkin' saw it. At least one of us sure as hell ain't makin' it outta there. Watch 'em, you watch 'em...they'll drop us off and take off...come back twenty-eight days later and we'll all be karked! Like...like some kinda holoflick." He nearly shouted, quickly coming to a halt to take another puff from the little cigar, running his free hand through his beard.

Nox stared at the footage with a blank stare. Rioters, destruction, group tactics; stealth was going to be key in this. Someone to scout out the area ahead, and she could be that scout.
Officially, the assassin had been hired to help the people of Raedon. Unofficially, she was after the virus that started this thing. Bioweapons were big on the black market, and something like this would fetch a nice price.

An hour to prepare? Then she needed to check her crossbow. She took the small ranged weapon from it's place on her belt and began cleaning it, taking it apart and making sure every part functioned correctly.
She was going to need it to survive.

"Thanks, appreciated." Ross said as he accepted the cigar and light. His eyebrow raised slightly at the mention of an extensive nicotine supply. They'd probably need it. The images continued.

"I'm not so sure about this one. Can't really turn it down, but this is definitely on the lower end of assignments." He said before taking a long drag. "I'm going to pack for an extended stay, hundred credits it all goes to hell after we land."

"I'll see ya on the ground pal." Ross said as he exited the room, heading to pack a survival bag for the mission. Which would include a portable shelter, water purification device, bayonet, machete, and various rations.

He had a bad feeling about this.

Sighing loudly, he leaned up against the wall, taking another puff from his cigarillo. Only a WESTAR-34 in his possession, he was beginning to grow increasingly worried. His vest was not going to save him from a damn thing. He removed his hat for a moment, revealing his dreadlocks. He examined his hat for a moment, slowly shaking his head. Simply holding the hat, he continued to puff on the little cigar with his right hand, sweat slowly dripping down his forehead,

Nox finished with her crossbow, giving it one last swipe before putting it back on her belt.
The assassin then sat with her legs folded across each other, her eyes closed. She needed to make sure she was in the best condition, and meditation was a safe bet for just that.
She noticed the exchange between the two men, clearly- what was that expression? Oh, yes. 'Freaking out'.
Nox simply continued meditation, going over her inventory in her head.
Crossbow, blade, thowing knives, various bolts with poisons and tranquilizers. An arsenal for small combat, speedy combat, the type of combat that she excelled in.
Though, if she kept hidden, she would not have to fight.

She smirked under her mask.
Right. Like that was going to happen.

After finishing the little cigar, he sighed once more. Leaning up against the wall, he slowly placed his hat back on, making his way back over to where the broadcast of the chaos inside the city was being played. He stalked back and forth, muttering profanities under his breath. After a few minutes, he was finally able to lean up against the wall and remove a small can of nasal snuff from his vest pocket. Slowly popping it open, he grabbed a small pinch holding it up to his nose and sniffing lightly, still holding the can of snuff in his other hand.

Watcher Three stood behind the other people in this strange little team. Of course, he was totally unable to see, but he smiled at the little clicks that meant the woman in front of him and to the right was preparing whatever little weapon had been clicking slightly against her belt. The two men were very audibly smoking, and the blind HRD would have bet money that their faces were full of fear.

He checked his own weapons, mostly a variety of blades that would more than easily chop these so-called zombies to bits. He smiled as his hands passed over the red armorweave jacket and the plating under it. Ironic that he was the most armored one here, and also the safest. What could honestly happen if one of these apparently undead bit him? He was a droid.

He called out, still grinning, "I do believe the phrase would be 'sleep tight, don't let the dead bite.' Of course, I'm at no risk if one of them does bite me."

With an unamused expression, he glanced back at [member="Watcher"] "Woah...thanks, man! Way to instill confidence!" He barked with a somewhat sarcastic tone, turning back to concrete on the snuff on his fingers. Wiping the remaining tobacco off of his fingers with a ragged cloth, he glanced around, examining the room in an attempt to panic once again. He was clenching his right fist as he stared straight ahead, obviously on the verge of panic.

Xavka stood stock still after the briefing, even while others on the team began to move about. Closing his eyes, he once again re ran the footage within his mind, trying to find something new as well as something to prevent the sinking feeling in his stomach. Within his clan it was tradition for those that had earned their Jat'i* to hunt, kill and feast on one of the many beast populating the Iridonian Plains; a way to bloody the new adult's claws, weapon and teeth al in one go. Xavka had participated and overseen these Rights and the movements of the "scavengers" had caused the memory of the Right to rise to the forefront of his mind.

"Kark!" He cursed quietly under his breathe. "I pray that I'm wrong!" Indeed he was, within his mind, Xavka was praying to every deity of his Pantheon, hoping that the beings that looked to be scavenging bodies, truly were doing so.

Reaching over his shoulder, Xavka removed his Zhabako from where it was secured within a bundle of cloth which was tied his back and ran a critical eye over it. Sighing, he walked over to a near by wall and lay it down, it would be too cumbersome for the job. Once again reaching into the bundle, Xavka withdrew another object, this time a cane. Twirling it in his hand once, he made his way out of the briefing room to pack a go bag, cane creating echoing taps as he went.

Noticing something out of the corner of his eye, he began to jog over to multiple lockers against the wall. Scanning his surroundings, he quickly pulled the locker open, a grin upon his face as he saw a blaster rifle begin to fall out of the locker. Quickly grabbing the barrel of the blaster, he removed it from the locker, quietly shutting the door once again. Slowly, he reached up, opening the small compartment also found on the locker. Looking inside, he discovered a nearly empty pack of cigarettes with the bottom nearly ripped out. Grabbing the pack, he slid the pack back into one of the many pockets in his vest. As he headed back over to his original location, he casually slung the rifle over his shoulder. Muttering to himself, his worried expression slowly began to fade.

Watcher just quietly stood there, smiling. Of course, he could not see the footage, but he had uploaded a similar holo to his memory only a few hours ago. There were very few things that were so virulent as to take a whole planet. If it had been Gulag, more casualties would have been noted. If it had been Blackwing, the footage would have shown obviously rotting forms among the rioting groups.

The man who'd sworn under his breath was walking away, the Replica Droid noticed, and the man with the shaking voice was still muttering at himself. The woman and the third man were simply sitting there, the woman with her little weapon breathing far easier than the other.

He looked in the direction of the panicking man, his smile fading as he felt his eyes turn to slits, and replied, "You should not look to me for confidence. I am simply incapable of fearing this situation, as my survival is assured."

Turning himself back towards the table with his weapons on it, he began belting on pieces of his armor and weaponry to his jacket, and finished without looking back, "The only other person in this room who might be as likely to survive as me is the girl with that weapon I can hear her loading."

Ross had packed and was in the process of re enetering the room with his bag as the conversation between [member="Pavor Clauditis"] and [member="Watcher Three"] was winding down. Nodding at [member="Xavka Duquo"] as he did. He couldn't help but let out a "HA" when he caught the tail end of the conversation.

"Hubris isn't a skill pal, and fear is a motivational tool you don't appear to have." He said coldly to the machine. Ross hadn't concluded his own internal debate about whether droids warranted certain respects. It seemed to vary from droid to droid, as from person to person.

"Don't worry about it pal. You've been in scrapes before, right? Remember how you felt then? Now imagine that with something trying to eat you. It's a tool man. Harness it. You'll do fine man." Ross said to the troubled man, smiling from behind the cigarillo the same man had given him earlier.

The former PI had yet to be in deathly fear of imminent digestion but from his experience in dealing with rough situations, particularly riots, he had rationalized going. He was still scared of course, but he felt this situation might be manageable. At least that's what he told his rational guard.

His gut continued to scream at him.

(That was the hop-on-board period. Response time will be cranked up. Batten down your slim slams and hold on to your jim jams, cuz you're in MY world now, ladies and gentlemen!
>: ^ } )

The hour passed by faster than anyone would have liked. Tensions were high, but the admiral was confident in his team. An intercom had warned everyone 10 minutes prior to launch, but the 5 minute warning announcement from the admiral himself was projected throughout the ship now.

"Attention! This is your admiral speaking. Shuttle launches in five, people. To all members of the insertion team, if you don't have your ass on that shuttle by the time it leaves, you will be left behind and your contract will be revoked. For all of you who are going, god speed and stay frosty. Make me proud and I'll make you rich. Hackett out."

5 minutes and 12 seconds after the end of that small speech, the shuttle was in the air and passing outside of the hangar bay space barrier. The interior of the shuttle was crowded with supplies and would have been pitch black if it wasn't for a single red light that was stationed over the cargo bay door. There was a small, horizontal, glass cabinet hanging on one side of the cargo bay. It had a small metal hammer hanging from it by a chain. Inside was a vibro axe. A sign above the cabinet said, "BREAK ONLY IN EMERGENCY". The ride was slightly uncomfortable, likely making the passengers wish they were there already, oddly enough.

After what seemed like eternity, the pilot informed them that they had just passed the PR (Point of Return). A slow ten minutes after that, they were in the desolate city. There wasn't much activity going on in the city, as far as could be detected. Dead bodies littered the street and the "scavengers" were moving so slowly that only half were detected.

Eventually, they landed. The shuttle settled and the red light turned green. With a whir and a hiss, the door opened and revealed a rooftop. From the rooftop, a sour sight could be seen. Fires still burned, the city was now an ugly scar, but worst of all was the silence. Cities were never meant to be alive with activity and noise, but this one was sick and near-dead. The pilot and co-pilot unloaded the crates along with whoever else pitched in. The mission was now in there hands. A door that led down and inside the building was off to the side of the rooftop. A refueling station was on the other side from the door.
