[[ SYMPATHY FOR THE TWI'LEK ]]

[[ Ryloth ]] is home to one of the most well-known species in the galaxy: the noble [[ Twi'lek ]]. Tidally locked, Ryloth features an endless day on half of its surface and an oppressive night on the other side. Despite their inability to wear helmets, the Twi'lek are a proud people. They are also the most compulsive slavers in the galaxy. Because Twi'lek are considered an attractive race, they are often the most sought after to enslave. [[ The Rebel Alliance ]], in their brief illegal occupation of the world, outlawed slavery. This is normally a good idea, but considering they are [[ Selectivists ]], they had absolutely no plan to transition Ryloth's economy into something not slave oriented.

Thousands starved to death. Crime flourished. Anarchy everywhere. And now that the Rebel Alliance has returned to whatever ill-conceived primordial ooze it crawled out of, the slave lords of Ryloth are re-asserting themselves. Although the Twi'leks fancy their government a "feudal meritocracy," it is still a government that will enslave any of its citizens at will in order to turn a quick buck. The Techno Union can sympathize with the profit motive, but not with the sale of sentient chattel. Despite the refounding of the Twi'lek Meritocracy, some selectivist elements remain entrenched in crumbling strongholds on the planet.

You have three missions to choose from.

A: Can't You Hear Me Knocking?

The Twi'lek Meritocracy has no navy to speak of and are barely recovered from a period of violent anarchy. As such, they are subject to the indomitable will of the Techno Union. The Executive Council has ordered all of the reigning Twi'lek feudal lords to form a council in [[ Lessu ]]. They will all be signing the Starchaser Proviso- which mandates the outlawing of slavery in all capacity. Some feudal lords, however, have elected to not show up in Lessu. They have instead locked themselves up in their private estates and openly defied the Techno Union.

You can see how this might be problematic.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is break into their estates, neutralize whatever defenses they've erected, and bring them back to the Council Chambers of Lessu to sign the document. They must be brought back alive and with enough faculties intact to sign the Starchaser Proviso. For each Twi'lek feudal lord you bring back, you will be paid cr35000. You will also be free to loot the feudal lord's estate of whatever valuables you desire.

B: Gimmie Shelter

Ryloth was in a poor state when the selectivists showed up. Now that they've had their way with the planet, it's worse off than it ever was before. It's going to take many years to overhaul the planet's economy, but the Techno Union will take the first step towards that ultimate goal today.

Pooling the resources of the Techno Union's wealthiest planets and an innumerable amount of private donors (including some from the Tion Cluster), substantial funds have been collected. These funds are being channeled into thousands of public works projects which will generate millions of temporary jobs and opportunities for the Twi'leks throughout their cities.

This money is going to a lot of different things and those who pursue this mission (should they choose to accept it) are welcome to render aid in whatever way they want. Here are just a few suggestions.
  • Dig wells and construct water filtration plants
  • Establish clinics, hospitals, and so forth
  • Train and arm local police/planetary armed forces
  • Construct affordable housing units
  • Re-open schools and other educational facilities
  • Promote the arts, entertainment industry, and sports on Ryloth
Because Ryloth also presents an opportunity for a lot of cheap labor, many of the smaller galactic businesses are moving on to the planet. Some would say that wage slavery isn't much of a step up from actual slavery, but they've probably never been an unpaid slave, have they? Exactly. As such, you can also oversee the construction of the hundreds of factories and call centers that will be erected on Ryloth. Social mobility isn't always pretty, but it beats being sexy dancer for a slug on Nal Hutta.

C: Get Off Of My Cloud

As usual, some people just don't get the message. In typical selectivist fashion, many foreign fighters were bused in to Ryloth to enforce the wills of their barely-functioning regime. Zealots, basically, only their deity of choice is selectivism. The majority of these non-Twi'lek fighters were based out of the planet's secondary capitol: [[ Kala'uun ]]. Since the anarchy, a human male by the name of Nilton Vulk has assumed direct control of the selectivist auxiliary forces in the city. Nilton took control of the city, but apparently took more steps towards fascism rather than selectivism.

Kala'uun's citizenry are repeatedly subject to incredible atrocities by Nilton and his men, but his reign of terror is at an end. Being that the city is primarily subterranean, the fighting will be both close quarters, intense, and not offer much room for conventional military vehicles. Nilton's men may be poorly armed, armored, and trained (they do come from selectivist stock, after all) but the fighting will be intense nonetheless. Kill or capture Nilton's men, but Nilton Vulk himself must die. Secure the city and minimize civilian casualties.

cr150000 will be awarded to whoever executes Nilton, with an added bonus of cr40 for every one of his men you kill.
