Dobson Logistical Consulting Firm is a very old family run business. Over the past couple hundred years, they have had many homes and headquarters, but always maintained their office ship, the demilitarized Gozanti Frieghter the Silent Profit. The current CEO of the company is Arken Dobson.
They are often contracted to assist in setting up logistical systems and management techniques in fledgling organizations or struggling governments. They are very good at resource management and organization. But like a wild animal, once you feed them it is hard to make them go away.
They were hired by the Elysium Empire King, Heath Valhoun, to help him keep his fleet fueled and fed. Being an empire without territory, and only a fleet to house his people, the king found the task of maintaining supply resources of his hungry fleet was a nightmare. So he hired the DLCF in an act of desperation.
The DLCF was almost immediately successful in balancing the logistical situation of the Elysium Civillian fleet, and quickly straightened out the naval situation shortly after. But true to form, they took advantage of the Elysium Empire’s desperation and began investing in various projects, buying large shares of vital businesses, and straight up manipulating commodity trades within the empire. In no time, they were dug into the Elysium Empire’s economy like a bad parasite.
Even though they are growing in power and influence at an alarming rate, they are still very good at balancing the economy at a surplus for the King, Heath Valhoun. The king simply cannot afford to get rid of them. Some people who despise the DLCF speculate that this might make the king loosen up his definition of the word “treason” as he appears to turn a blind eye to their actions it seems.
RATIONALE
The company was founded by Viken Dobson, an accountant that decided to start his own consulting firm about 200 years ago. He started in a small shuttle with his wife and travelled between worlds, taking contracts to assist with logistical and financial concerns. The business was small and benign until Viken passed away and Clyle Dobson took over. As soon as they did, they began to make shady investments and bend the rules. Eventually, they got ran off every planet that they were contracting on.
They have repeated this behaviour over the past couple centuries like a bad addict. It seems to be a family trait, where they are hired to do a job but they try to bite off more than they can chew and they are forced out over time.
Now, the current head of the family, and owner of the company, Arken Dobson, has found a goldmine. The Elysium Empire is truly desperate for resources and management and will simply starve to death without the skills of his company. Even with lots of money, poor resource management would bleed the empire dry within weeks. Arken is ambitious, and clear-minded. He no longer craves petty cash in vast sums. Political power is far more effective. And he wants the empire.
