PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

Taller than an average Jawa, standing at 3 feet and 7 inches, Djojo Meeknu wears the finest Jawa robes. He typically adorns then with belts, bandoliers, satchels, and backpacks, anything with more pockets for holding things, be they shiny junk, valuable tools, or spice. When dealing with members of other species, he often wears his finest robes, sometimes different vibrant colors, as well as fragrances, unlike most Jawa, who rely on natural musk as part of their language. When this is not required, Djojo often masks his naturally offensive Jawa smell with lavish perfumes, giving him a reputation as the galaxy's best smelling Jawa, which has been beneficial to his business.

INVENTORY

Jawa Starcrawler

PERSONALITY AND BELIEFS

Like most Jawas, Djojo is driven by a culture of trade, always seeking to pay the lowest prices and charge the highest when possible. He is a shrewd businessman, who understand the reputation Jawas have as traders of low to mid-quality goods, less known for their reliability of products and more so for their reliability to source just about anything for the right price with no questions asked. The benefit of this reputation is that few suspect the leader of a Jawa trade fleet to be an organized criminal smuggling drugs and weapons amidst scrap and second hand droids.

Djojo often works, at least outwardly, to rehabilitate the image of the classical Jawa businessman. He has integrated himself in galactic culture much more than others of his species, learning to understand several languages, as well as manners and etiquette, and grooming himself to mingle with non-Jawas, something few of his kind willingly do. However, the image he has created for himself is largely a facade to build trust, all the while he deals in criminal activity disguised as legitimate business.

Like many Jawas, Djojo is outspoken against droid rights, holding a domineering and demeaning attitude towards the droids he buys and sells, and he treats his own droid companions as little more than tools.

STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES

  • Well-Connected among Jawas on multiple planets
    • Though he hails from the Jawa populace of Raxus Prime, Djojo's time as a spacer has netted him connections with other Jawa tribes across the galaxy, most notably the recycling planet Bracca on the Perlemian Trade Route and his ancestral homeworld of Tatooine, which he vists when travelling the Mara Corridor for business.
  • Cunning Salesman
    • Ingrained in Jawa culture, shrewd business practices are taught young, and Djojo has well-developed his sense for negotiation of pricing during his many years as a trader.
  • Veteran Freighter Pilot:
    • With over two decades of experience leading his trading fleet of Jawa Starcrawlers between the Corporate Sector and The Slice on the Hydian Way and Perlemian Route, Djojo is most comfortable in the cockpit of a freighter, both leading his immediate crew and supervising the other captains in his small trading flotilla.

  • Unable to speak Basic
    • An inherent detriment of being a Jawa is that Djojo is anatomically incapable of speaking anything other than the Jawa language, though he understands Basic and Huttese quite well, and supplements this deficit with a translator droid when he can.
  • Jumpy Trigger Finger
    • While neither explicitly a strength nor a weakness, Djojo is often quick to draw his blaster if he feels threatened, or if he believes a deal is turning sour. This has earned him a reputation as a no-nonsense dealer, and a potential liability, but it has also proven to be a strong defense mechanism for an otherwise incapable fighter.

  • Diminutive
    • Another natural disadvantage of the Jawa species, Djojo is very small compared to most of the people he does business with, leaving him vulnerable to larger and stronger species
  • Uncouth
    • Try as he might to offset this with more appropriate robing and fragrances, no Jawa can truly escape the inherent uncouthness of their species, with the production of strong odors a core part of their biology, and an ingrained cultural nonchalance towards dirt, grime, trash, rust, and everything unclean. Like most Jawas, this can be an influential detriment to peoples' willingness to work with him.

HISTORY

Djojo was born into the Meeknu Clan, the largest population of Jawas on Raxus Prime since the end of the Old Republic. The Meeknus were generally neutral to the shifting political borders around the Raxus System, until most of them were driven deep under the surface of the junkyard world when it was occupied by the murderous alien maruaders known as the Bryn'adul. Following their defeat, the Meeknu Clan became increasingly interested in salvaging their technology, which ultimately led the clan to invest in sending scavengers off-world, who made fortunes of credits salvaging not only from the alien invaders, but also scrounging in the wake of the Sith Empire and the Ashlan Crusade. The Meeknus made a name for themselves as scrappers and traders in the Tion Sector and the Tingel Arm, and by the time Djojo took captainship of his father's Starcrawler they were looking to expand.

Djojo was the one to lead many of the pioneering missions to establish Jawa trade routes, partaking in traditional Swap-Meets on many worlds. On the junkyard planet of Bracca during one of these meets, Djojo secured an alliance with the planet's clans by marriage to a clan leader's daughter, promising to bring lots of business from the Outer Rim to Bracca, which would begin the many years that he spent travelling the Perlemian Trade Route between the junk worlds. Eventually he would expand his route into the Mara Corridor, trading with Jawa clans on the many desert worlds there, like Ryloth, Geonosis, and of course the Jawa homeworld Tatooine.

In this time, the Meeknu clan would become known to the Hutt Cartels, who easily persuaded him with credits to become a smuggler in their service, carrying contraband hidden amongst the scrap heaps on board his ships. This new business relationship with organized crime opened many doors for Djojo, which he gladly entered at the promise of payment. Weapons disguised as scrap metal, bags of spice hidden in compartments of cheap droids, and safe, unassuming passage for ne'er-do-wells all became part of his business, easily going under the nose of law enforcement who thought little of nomadic Jawas passing through their space.

When the Hutt Cartels were overthrown by the Black Sun Syndicate, Djojo's routes and regular clients became subject to them. Though they have been a more demanding master than the Hutts, the well oiled criminal enterprise of the Black Sun has presented Djojo with many new opportunities, and he doesn't care all that much about who runs The Slice so long as his fleet can move unimpeded.
