SPECIAL FEATURES

  • Hybrid Transition

  • Power Transfer Shaft

Strengths |
  • [ Hybrid Transition ] | One of the main features of the Aelius is its ability to go from a melee spear form into a ranged solar ionization weapon in a snap. In its melee form, the spearhead is equipped with a plasmatic vibroblade edge, allowing for it to slice through most materials with ease as well as metals when the plasmatic edge is activated, similar to a lightsaber. In ranged mode the Aelius can channel a solar ionization beam capable of bypassing conventional shields and melting through metals.
  • [ Power Transfer Shaft ] | The Aelius utilizes a series of conduits that allow power to be channeled through the shaft of the spear in order to power the plasmatic vibroblade or solar ionization emitter without the wielder needing to have it attached to a clunky power pack and cable. All that is required is a compatible grip that can exchange the flow of power from the source to the spear. The handle also stores enough power to fire the first shot out of the solar ionization emitter without needing to charge up.
  • [ Divine Spear ] | In many ways the Aelius mirrors that of a lightsaber or Force Staff. It can be powered to cut through targets like a lightsaber can, as well as have the ability to deflect blaster bolts whilst being resistant to lightsabers due to its Phrik construction. The spearhead can split when transitioning into a ranged mode, but can also turn it into a two pronged fork that can be used to impale targets or catch a lightsaber or weapon between them.
Weaknesses |
  • [ Power Hungry ] | One of the shortcomings of the Aelius is its high power usage when utilizing the solar ionization attack in ranged mode or the plasmatic vibro-edge. It also loses the ability entirely to use either the solar ionization or plasmatic vibro-edge if it is being handled by anyone who isn't able to feed energy through the handle of the spear.
  • [ Ineffective Range ] | Despite the solar ionization giving the Aelius considerable medium to close range firepower, it in the end suffers from the same shortcomings of solar ionization weapons and requires a charge up time for sustained fire. It also lacks heavily in the long range department and is only truly effective at close quarters combat.
  • [ Slow Rate of Fire ] | The biggest shortcoming of the ranged aspect of Aelius is the fact that it utilizes solar ionization as a means of ranged attack. Outside of the first shot which can be fired without charging due to the spear storing energy ahead of time, Aelius requires a brief charge up time in order to sustain consistent fire.

DESCRIPTION

The Divine Spear Aelius is a spear forged and wielded by Escanor Ragnos as his signature weapon. While it has no actual divine or magical properties to it as its name might suggest, it is packed with advanced technology to make it a fearsome weapon in the hands of a skilled wielder nonetheless. Though it is simple in appearance, it is often a fatal error in judgement to expect little from it.

The base of Aelius was designed as a spear as it was the most effective weapon that Escanor wielded, and one that he handles with deadly precision. Forged from Phrik, Aelius is not only durable, but lightweight as well. Despite it being large, it is relatively lightweight and grants the wielder a significant range advantage over those who wield vibroweaponry or lightsabers, the latter being another reason why it was forged with Phrik. However, in a galaxy full of ever evolving weapons, a simple spear would not do.

Since Escanor became apart of the Golden Company and got access to their equipment, he observed their properties and discovered how best to create a weapon that utilized the available tech. The result was a hybrid weapon that utilized the destructive ranged firepower of a solar ionization weapon with the deadliness and precision of a force pike. For a basis, the design of Aelius was mirrored to the properties of Force Staffs used by old Mandalorian Royal Guards, a melee weapon that could deflect blaster bolts but also strike targets from range. From there the ranged component was a solar ionization emitter near the head of the spear that was active when the blade of the spear split apart. The head of the spear was designed for penetration and slashing, both improved with the addition of a plasmatic vibro-edge, giving it properties similar to lightsabers by superheating whatever material it came into contact with.

This brought up an interesting issue to Escanor. The spear with what it had integrated was bordering a fine line between perfectly balanced and being unwieldly, and due to the power consumption needed to utilize the solar ionization weapon and plasmatic vibro-edge, having an attached power source would not only make the weapon unwieldly but tether its end with a cable attached to an external power pack. Escanor worked his way around this by integrating a special feature in the handle of Aelius, allowing him to freely transfer power from his suit to the handle directly to create a wireless source of power. In doing so, he added no unnecessary weight to the spear as well as giving it free range of motion.
