Special Features:
Plasma Drill - Using Emergence Weapons technology, the Devourer-Class allows its Antimatter Reactor to 'spin-up', gathering huge amounts of Gamma-Ray Plasma. It then ejects the Plasma in a massive beam, carving deep into the surface beneath and melting any resources.
Tractor Beam Ring - Once the Mass-Ejector has fired, it retracts deep into the Devourer. This leaves only the Tractor Beam Ring. The Ring fires and drags the molten material up into its massive body where it is stored.
Strengths:
Stronk - Being an essential part of The Emergence's War Machine, Devourers are loaded with Ultrachrome plate, Alusteel chassis and reinforcements, plus a heavy-duty Deflector Shield backed up by a secondary.
Mass-Ejector - Commonly referred to as its 'Drill', a massive tube-like structure underneath serves to eject plasma into the surface below it. This not only melts the surrounding material but, if need be, can be used in an offensive manner.
Weaknesses:
Unarmed Fortress - The Devourer is only minimally armed with 10 STA-01 Turboplasma's. Power is dedicated to its drill while its integrity is maintained by more than enough armour
Slow - Powered by a single Destroyer Plasma Engine, the Devourer will whip through space at tremendous speeds. However, when on the surface of a Planet, its locomotion is painfully slow, as is its take-off when departing.
Leggg - Standing on Three massive legs, if one is taken out, the Devourer will be forced to use its Engine to remain upright. This occupies its Reactor, subsequently deactivating its mining operation and its shields, leaving it open to attack. If two legs are destroyed, it will fall.
Fire Operation - When firing its drill, all energy from its Reactor is used. This deactivates its shields as long as it's firing.
Description:
The Devourer-Class is very appropriately named. These massive, three legged resource gatherers are designed purely to consume and transport, bleeding any planet they find themselves on dry.
Independent and Sentient, Devourers will accompany planetary invasion fleets, often positioning themselves in orbit while the surface is secured. Once the all-clear is given, Devourers descend from orbit, punching through the atmosphere and landing with an aggressively grandoise entrance.
Devourers are powered by a single, large Antimatter Reactor. Once dug in, they 'spin-up' their reactor (allow it to build up a maximum quantity of Gamma-Ray Plasma), and eject the entire energy output through a massive ejector that protrudes from underneath. The ejected plasma carves into the surface beneath, melting everything in a mile radius. Once its plasma is spent, the 'Drill' retracts, opening space to its cargo and allowing its ring of tractor beams to fire. The molten material is pulled from beneath it and stored in its 2 megaton body.
This is repeated over several areas. If one operation didn't fill it, the Devourers will slowly walk from its melted site, to a more solid area. Once full of raw, molten resource, Devourers will retract their 'Drills' and replace them with a Destroyer-Class Plasma Engine. Slowly, they take off and leave the planet. Once in space, they return to their designated planet where they deposit their material. Once emptied, they again return to their mining site and resume the process.
Devourers are not just resource gatherers however. The Emergence has, on more than one occasion, used them for offensive means. By dropping them into Cities and other populated areas, they can be used essentially melt a populace and its infrastructure.
