Jacobus sighed and leaned back in his captain’s chair. Another job was today, and it should be one of the most lucrative in recent memory. Jacobus was set on a course from an anonymous benefactor to retrieve an old Galactic Empire dataset. It was said to be stored in a very old stormtrooper training facility nearing the southern pole of the planet. Supposedly untouched because of the harsh mountainous terrain, Jacobus figured it was easy pickings. As his hip lowered towards the surface, Jacobus could make out the figure of a barebones outpost, and he steered clear. Military checkpoints were not his forte, no matter how abandoned.
He pulled his ship into the jagged mountain range and found a spot that looked as if Naalol was opening it’s jaws to clasp down on the world. He swerved his ship into a relatively flat spot, and touched down. With a slight thud, his ship was landed.
Welcome to Naalol.
Jacobus unbuckled himself from the pilot’s chair and enjoyed the view. The planet was hazardous and rough. The light snows that fell gave the jagged rock a slippery look to them, and the little patches of grass and vegetation were all but wiped out by the winter cold. He saw one path towards civilization, and such was through the jagged mountain pass of his preferred landing zone and into a small village down below. Jacobus turned on his heel and sauntered to the back of his ship to gear up.
First things first, Jacobus donned a larger fur-lined coat over his normal shirt and leather trousers. His climbing boots were tied up extra tight, and he prepped them for snowy, slippery conditions. His trademark pair of goggles were wrapped around the top of his head, ready for use at any time should the need arise. His cortosis weave bow and small quiver of collapsible (and customizable; including rope, stun, drone, camera, and explosive) vibro-arrows were slung around his back. Last but not least, Jacobus grabbed his favorite pair of gloves and his lucky collapsible ice pick to keep holstered on his chest.
He stepped out of his ship and made his way across the cold rock until he found a suitable place to start climbing. Using his bow, Jacobus launched an arrow as high as he could and clipped the rope to his belt as he began rappelling himself up. Dodging sharp rocks and loose footholds, Jacobus began to process of scaling the formation to find a better vantage point. As he reached the top, he looked around. Much to his dismay, he spotted a few more signs of life than expected. It seems he wasn’t the only one looking for this dataset. Finally, spotting what seemed to be old empire entrance to a bunker, Jacobus began down.
Descent was always the fun part, and he made his way down quickly and with ease onto the cold, frozen ground below the ragged mountains. He crunched the snow lightly as he made his way to the bunker. As he got closer, however, he heard a few voices, and he ducked behind foliage to hide himself. He crept closer and closer, hoping to get a glimpse at who or whatever was already at the entrance.
