Just like her sister Alys, she is from Tattooine. Her parents were moisture farmers who died when Des was younger, and was essentially raised by her sister Alys for years as they traveled across the outer rim. Her problems with authority has gotten her and her sister banned from several star ports, and she's constantly getting into trouble that Alys needs to rescue her from.
