Biography.
He had another name when he was born, a Shorak name, one he has long since shed. The Second Great Hyperspace War was raging then; the Brotherhood of the Maw was striking out of the Unknown Regions, pushing south from the galaxy's northern rim like a jagged dagger seeking the heart of the Galactic Alliance. The Shorak homeworld, Shor, lay at the edge of the conflict. Much of the Unknown Regions fell under the Maw's dark banner, but Shor remained on the sidelines, its people holding their collective breath as the savage hordes streamed past them to batter at the walls of civilization. But the Shorak boy scoffed at their cowardice. From a young age, he knew power when he saw it. He could feel a tug in his soul, a sense that he belonged in the blade of that knife as it tasted Alliance blood.
He was an ordinary boy, for the most part. There was nothing in his childhood to explain his grim fixation. His household was stable, his parents loving, his world relatively safe from the raging conflict - too minor and out of the way for the Brotherhood to turn its full attention to while the war raged coreward. But the Maw, and its secret masters, exuded a darkness that went beyond the physical. It blanketed the Unknown Regions, suffusing entire sectors in a choking blanket of spiritual energy. Unlike his parents and his peers, the boy could feel it. He could sense the power that lurked behind the invading tribes, the puppet-master who had set the entire war in motion. It was too much for a developing mind to bear, and it twisted him, changed his perception of the galaxy in ways no doctor could explain.
By the time the boy was old enough to leave home, ignoring his parents' pleas and striking out on his own, the Maw was broken. The puppet-master had been struck down at Tython, destroyed in the act of rewriting the very fabric of reality. The tribes had been shattered at Exegol, finally pushed back to the core of their dark khanate and pierced with a spear of light. But the boy could sense that the story was not yet ended. The puppet-master's spirit remained, still heavy with the weight of destiny. The boy followed its thread into deeper darkness, back beyond the edge of the galaxy, to where the Maw had first emerged. That was where he found them: the Church of the Dark Side, those who still kept their faith in the one called Solipsis. They saw his longing to be part of something greater, and took him in.
The boy took a new name, an Imperial name, suited to the world he knew his master would build upon His return: Deonis Laythar. He cast aside his heritage and studied at the feet of the Church's last prophets, the survivors from among the Krath and the Sith Eternal and the Sorcerers of Rhand. He bided his time in the shadows, filling his mind with dark knowledge, building his faith into an iron bulwark. And in time, that faith was rewarded. Solipsis returned, as the Church had foretold, and he wielded his almighty powers to shatter the Galactic Alliance and raise an Empire in its place. For his faith, Deonis Laythar was rewarded. He took on the void-black robes of a Church Magistrate, and in this role swore to wield his gifts - and his unshakeable faith in the Emperor and the Dark Side - in service to the Empire.
Personality and Beliefs.
Deonis Laythar is a true believer in the Church of the Dark Side, and in the Empire of Darth Solipsis. He firmly believes that all that has come to pass, from Solipsis's death and resurrection to his dominion over the Core Worlds, was foretold by the Dark Lords of old in the prophecies of the Sith'ari. Deonis strives to exemplify the values of the Empire - absolute loyalty to the Emperor, growth through struggle, order at all costs. His abandonment of his Shorak name and heritage serves as an example of how he believes all Imperial citizens should act: leaving behind the elements of culture and identity that divide the citizens of conquered worlds and embracing unity as servants of the Emperor. He shares these values freely with any who ask, and with many who don't.
To Deonis, most in the galaxy are misguided. The Jedi allow shortsighted compassion and self-righteousness to keep them stagnant; they treat symptoms rather than the disease, lacking the stomach to do what must be done in order to achieve real change. The so-called Sith behind their Blackwall hide from the galaxy, an equally short-sighted strategy. They too have the kind of power that can achieve real change in the galaxy, and are less bound by petty morality, but are constrained by fear; they squat on their petty domains and seek to keep outsiders from challenging them, rather than going forth to shatter their enemies and seize true control. This is why Solipsis is the Sith'ari; only he has clarity of purpose, fighting and striving for galactic domination as a true Sith should.
Passionate, devoted, and unconstrained by morality, Deonis proclaims the Emperor's word eagerly.
