Delekhan was born and bred in the darkest pit of the galaxy. Like many Gulandi, he was brainwashed into the worship of death. It was more reverence for the final stage of the cycle of life, the ultimate and one truth in the galaxy. Death came for all.
Many Gulandi were orphans due to the nature of their society. It was expected of both men and women to raid and pillage with the rest of their people, and often children would be left in the hands of those too old, weak or injured to fight.
These individuals were more often disfigured and mutilated Sephi who had suffered greatly in combat. The elderly would insist on fighting until fighting had taken their life, so the elderly had become a rare sight, and the too weak were often killed for their weakness. While they existed on the edges of society, they were few and far in-between.
Delekhan was tutored by a disfigured elder who had served in many conflicts. While he could not teach him to fight, he could teach him tactics and strategy, and what little he knew of politics. When not with the elders, he would be with the other children, fighting one another to strengthen their bodies, tamper their minds to adjust to the pain, and to gain experience in close combat.

By mid-adolescence he was joining raiding parties and was quickly aligned with the -, a sect of Gulandi who painted their armour crimson and scarified their chests with the symbol of a heart. It was one of seven major raiding parties of Sar-Sargoth, but had no ties to the royal family.
They were one of the most far-reaching raiding parties, going as far as pillaging the Outer Rim when the Galactic Republic still held their planets. They would be gone for months, and even years, at a time before returning to Gulamendis with their riches, albeit with significant losses.
As they were attacking heavily fortified Republic positions during the height of the One Sith - Republic war, they were met with heavy opposition. They appeared at night and left before dawn, striking when the night was darkest. Utilising blitzkrieg tactics, they were gone before the local militia and troops even knew what hit them.
When local Republic barracks knew of an impending attack, it was quick to turn what could be a successful raid into a total slaughter for the Gulandi, who's own madness pushed them further into the chaos before fleeting with what little they could take, often slaves and weapons.

When the Host Lord of the Primeval fell, chaos reigned in on the Primeval. Civil war broke out between independent warlords looking to take what they can, the Court of Balagoth who sought to establish themselves as the new leaders, and the Old Guard, loyalists of Anja who strived to keep the Primeval in control.
Delekhan began to pose a major threat to the Old Guard as the Gulandi became more ambitious. With the Primeval forces stretched thin, and the civil war stressing the Old Guard military power, the - raiding fleet began to pursue closer to Bastion, harassing their outer-most worlds. By this stage Delekhan had become a lieutenant of this party, leading his own sorties in a bid to claim land for the Gulandi to extend their control over the galaxy.
