DETAILED SPECIAL FEATURES

Helmet Layers:

In designing the Death Trooper Protection System, great care and consideration was taken in the development of the helmet. Utilizing the four-layer Imperial design, Death Trooper helmets are far different in performance and function than standard stormtrooper helmets.

The outer layer of the helmet is made from a Stygian-Trispismatic Polymer, a denser and more durable form of traditional duraplast that, while containing no stealth properties of its own, can be used in conjunction with other stealth technologies to enhance their effects. This strong polymer is highly resistant to blaster fire and explosives. This outer layer is then coated with thin layers Reflec Polymer to increase the covert ability of the user by making it vastly more difficult for sensors to pick them up.

The Second layer is a simple Armorweave mesh that is folded over itself multiple times during production before being welded into place on the inside of the outer layer to offer additional protection from concussive force and penetrative intrusions from solid projectiles or light blaster fire.

The third layer is put into place when a second a layer of metal is put into place overtop of the armor weave. This metal plate is then implanted with a magnetic seal field device that acts as protection against harmful ion, electrical and EMP attacks.

Lastly, miles of micro-tube is run throughout the inside of the helmet and filled with a gaseous coolant called Dygian which is circulated using pressure created inside the tubes themselves. These tubes run directly against the electronics of the helmet and disperse the heat by carrying it away from central points to heat sinks located on the rim of the helmet. These sinks then transfer the residual heat into the body suit where it is further dispersed. Any remaining heat is eventually transferred into the boot heat sinks where it is stealthily released into the ground.

This method happens continuously and within seconds, keeping the helmet at a consistently cool temperature that hides its thermal signature. These tubes are then covered with a layer of Reifflex Cellular Padding for the comfort and protection of the operator.

Helmet Systems:

An Operator in the field has many things to worry about when on the mission and the systems in his helmet can be the difference between life and death. The Death Trooper Helmet's innovation begins with the visors, which are made from state-of-the-art absorption materials that redirect and disperse all sonic energy from outside the armor by utilizing counterwave-nullifiers. Housed within both lenses is an array of nano-technology that allows for the use of a number of targeting systems new to Stormtrooper Armor. Being able to automatically seal in the vacuum and allowing the operator to breathe in toxic/underwater environments for extended periods is just the start of what the helmet's systems can offer.

This list of systems has been nicknamed "Death's Choice" by Advanced Weapons Development Agents and consists several advanced achievements. The first of which is the standard Multi-Frequency Targeting and Acquisition System that comes standard with all forms of Imperial Stormtrooper armor. The real prize, however, is found in the Holographic Tactical Display which features individual target tracking, predictive models for movement to increase reaction time, real-time squad position tracking, 360 vision and includes a suite for Electro Photo Reception that allows the use of several visor modes; allowing the operator to see in low-light, Nightvision, Thermal Vision, sonar, and ultraviolet while also projecting 2D holographic silhouettes of enemies discovered on any onboard scanners (including those obscured by cover or visual deterrents). These scanners continuously scan for targets, alerting the user to new anomalies that may be dangerous.

Helmet systems are controlled first through biometric and retinal verification of the user, followed by a spoken password that is analyzed by a voice analysis. The justification for such security measures comes from Intelligence concerns of what might be learned from their operations if a Death Trooper was ever killed in the field and his body not recovered. The verification process is only one of many fail-safes, the second being a specialized medical monitor in the helmet that is activated upon operation deployment. If the user of the helmet is killed, or three free failed attempts made to activate his helmet when his vitals place him as living, the systems will self-destruct by way of electromagnetic discharge from a sudden overload of the magnetic seal within the helmet which renders the helmet inoperable.

The helmet also contains an IFF specifically tailored to the operator who receives it. This IFF designates the operator by their codename or callsign but will never identify them as a "Death Trooper" by design. Instead, the IFFs are made to read as inconspicuous (though perhaps suspicious) ranks and titles such as janitors, Academy Professors or even librarians. Despite this, the IFF is invaluable in operations in which the life of the operator is at severe risk. Often times, Death Troopers will be expected to submerge themselves underwater for hours at a time to assault a hidden rebel base or glide through space in order to board an enemy ship.

Finally, comes the helmets audio and visual systems. Audio is directed in one of two ways. Either it is spoken into the short-range comm scrambler, which is in a closed circuit loop that changes frequencies every two seconds. The second way is to speak to those who are physically around the operator via an audio encoder. The standard forces of the Empire will here only a garbled mess, but those who possess a decoder on their person will be able to conversate perfectly fine with the Death Troopers.

Armor & Body Glove

The body glove of the Deathtrooper armor was optimized for the stealth purposes that would be demanded of it. Using a vacuum sealable thermoguard material, the body glove uses a series of the temperature regulating systems to hide the user's heat signature from thermal scanners. This, combined with the cooling tubes strung through the interior of the armor and the Reflec polymer coated atop the Stygian-Trisprismatic Polymer base makes this a perfect platform in which to conduct covert operations. To further this aspiration, sound dampeners were added to the boots to distort the sound of the Death Troopers footsteps to near silence.

Wanting to capitalize even more heavily on the role of this armor, the creators decided to use a Diatium based power core instead of more traditional solar core. While this disallows the armor from being charged, it allows the armor a far heavier range of time in which it can be operated continuously; allowing for a full month of operation before core replacement is needed. To ensure that this wouldn't become a problem on longer operations, the designers made this core easily user changeable which allows an operator to forgo grenades, ammo or rations in favor a second or even a third core for up to three months of continuous operation.

In the vastness of the galaxy, however, it is never known what environment Death Troopers will be expected to run covert operations in. For this reason, the designers of the armor made it modular so the operators can attach grave chutes, jump packs and jump boosters to their armor. One thing that was universally agreed upon, however, was that a way to effectively propel the user through the water was needed. As water is one of the most commonly shared attributes between inhabited planets in the galaxy, it was decided that the ability to submerge and quickly traverse water was a high priority. This led to the addition of mini repulsor built into calves to allow speedy propulsion through the water.

What would an operator be, however, if his armor did not protect him from incoming fire? Thanks to the high-density duraplast used in the construction of this armor and the several blast sinks located in the chest and abdoment, Death Troopers are able to comfortably withstand light blaster pistol fire while being able to cling to life from a direct light laser cannon impact with permanent and irreparable damage to the armor. In the event the operator is brought to a critical point in their physical health, however, the armor will administer a total of three Bacta injections over a period of time determined by onboard health monitors in an attempt to save the operators life.

Strengths:
  • The Several signature suppressing systems on board allow for the Death Troopers to move with more ease across any given battle space, with little chance for detection via simple or passive scanners.

  • The advanced HUD systems on board the armor allow for the user to not only compensate for the lack of visibility in a given battle space but allow them to gain a tactical advantage in most situations in which they are deployed for.

  • Encrypted and cycling communication frequencies make it beyond difficult for outside listeners to gain any access to the Death Trooper communication systems, or even find it to begin with.

  • External scramblers erase the probability of unwanted eavesdroppers learning of vital information when the operator is speaking to non-helmeted personnel such as officers.

  • The powerful materials the armor is constructed from allows for the operators to take severe damage while maintaining their own life. This may cost them their armor rather quickly, but the preservation of their life is upheld beyond expectations; even offering admirable resistance to lightsaber strikes.

  • The helmet contains a failsafe that requires a spoken command upon helmet removal. If the helmet is removed without this spoken command, chosen for each individual helmet by the Officer in charge of security for that operation (and changed after the operation is over) the comm frequency rotator and mission data is completely wiped along with all targeting and HUD programming (easily reinstallable in Imperial Space).

  • In order to remove or replace any components of the armor, one must first bypass all security parameters of the armor. If an operator is incapacitated, his allies will be unable to scavenge from his armor to add to their own in a dire situation. If an operator dies all useable parts are destroyed via a series of self-destruct sequences built into the armor.

Weaknesses :
  • The coolant system utilizes Dygian gas, a highly effective but toxic gas that is continuously circulated throughout the armor. When the armor is hit by a sufficiently powerful blaster, the tubes carrying the coolant tend to rupture at the point of impact. Dygian turns to a black, smokey substance when released into the open air that is toxic to breathe. Not only will a strong impact telegraph to the enemy that they scored a damaging hit with a unique puff of black, oily smoke billowing from the armor, but if hit in the helmet the operator may be forced to remove his helmet or risk dying from inhalation of the toxic coolant. This is not to mention the fact that for several seconds the hit operator's position will be given away as the oily coolant bellows into the air and the tubes are sealed by the suit.

  • Contest over the role of the armor in early stages has led to a final design that, for stealth armor, is rather heavy. Instead of relying on traditional stealth, Death Trooper operators rely heavily on the technology found in their armor. Battle damage can easily destroy coolant systems that will then lead to catastrophic failure of systems; namely sound dampeners in the boots, repulsors in the calves, breathers in the helmet, the disruptor gloves and even HUD systems.

  • While the armor sports a heavy blaster and sonic resistance, it has little to no protection from Ion based attacks. This can leave the operator highly vulnerable in the event of an ion attack that would render the complex system within the armor useless for several seconds while it rebooted. Even this recovery, however, is unlikely to save all the systems and damage is almost guaranteed to occur with a sufficient Ion blow.

  • Though the armor makes the user almost impervious to sonic damage in small doses, it by no means makes them permanently invincible. The visors of the helmets utilize special glass and microtech to achieve its completely nullifying effect, but when too much sonic energy is forced upon the visors in a short period of time they simply give out and shatter. This can damage the operator's eyes severely, or at bare minimum cause him to lose his HUD. Several sonic blaster impacts or a direct hit from a sonic cannon can cause this shattering to occur.

  • Lacking any long range communication of its own, in order to keep the risk of detection down, the troopers are required to carry external communicators that are deactive until needed. Also, without an IFF registry misidentification on the battlefield is quite possible and could cost the wearer their life.

  • Weak points in the inner elbows, back of the knees and other joint locations are highly vulnerable to blaster fire.

DESCRIPTION

With the threats of an entire galaxy facing The Galactic Empire, the need for a special forces unit that can bring down the masses of terrorists mounting against them was evident. This armor is proof that The Galactic Empire has returned in earnest and is prepared to destroy all who stand in their way.

I want to start off by saying this is an excellent and very attractive sub.

Let's jump into it.

As this is designed to be a relatively stealthy armor, I just want to let you know that several systems you have listed would make your armor detectable when in use. I will quote them below. I don't intend for you to change anything, I just wanted to make sure you understood as I just learned some of these.

Sonic Mapper

Lucien E. Irridius said:
Advanced Sonar sensors

Both of these rely of sending out pulses and reading the returns.

Lucien E. Irridius said:
IFF Registry

By necessity, for this to work it needs to broadcast something

Also, any long range communications would disrupt stealth, even if it is encrypted and unable to be understandable.

Did you mean this to say invisible or invincible? Normally I don't quibble about misspellings and such, but these meanings have significant meanings in their own rights.

First off, thanks! :D Your suggestions were really good

  • Took away the IFF registry and added a weakness point on it
  • Added a strength about the helmet needing a password to be said before removal or vital programs are erased
  • Added a weakness on their being no long range comms built into the armor and that an external one would need to be carried and turned off to avoid detection
  • Added bracket points under the HELMET section stating that the sonic pulses can be activated and deactivated on command

This isn't a weakness of the armor. This is a strength in regards to the security and self destruct sequences.

However, as I do not see any mention of anything that can protect this armor against EMP / Ion attacks, that could be a viable weakness to your electronics.

New weakness and added the old "weakness" as a strength :D
