Death of a Hero--PM for invite

NOW

James stood on the beachside house watching the waves on the shore in the moonlight. A half-spent cigarette rested between his fingers as he leaned on the banister, giving off an orange-hued light. The small hut he was in was hardly fit for a king, let alone James Justice, the master of a pirate fleet without equal.

That was a different life, he reminded himself. A life he did not deserve any more. A life he was not privy to. The soft breeze of this planet’s Oceanside riffled through his hair, bringing the sweet smell of salt and sea life.

He was here, in exile. An exile he deserved. An exile he more than earned. Any one day in his life, James knew, he had committed more atrocities than any being ever should have. He killed thousands, hundreds of thousands of beings. He had distributed drugs, weapons, stolen and swindled. All of it, he did as a lie, a lie to himself that he was making the galaxy a better place.
He chuckled softly. It was hard to figure out what was more foolish, the idea that he could make a difference or that he had used it to justify his actions. With a shake of his head James tossed the cigarette onto the beach, letting the waves wash over it, and extinguish the flame. He turned to his door and stopped, his eyes catching the helmet of his Astraea armor. The glint on the visor brought him back to that day as if he was there once more…….
THEN
.
The blaster shots rang out with a hellish roar. Their fierce bright flashes tore through the bodies of the soldiers in a gorey display, blood splattered across the walls and floor. James felt a twinge of delight as their bodies twisted in the dance of death. He hoisted his rifle onto his shoulder and activated his comm, “The gate is mine, I repeat, the gate is mine. Send in the troopers.”

A loud crash shook the ground as another artillery blast landed. Imahalyan was taken, the leader of the overlords had been suppressed and Stardust had been crowned ruler, but for now there was a need to take down the remaining pockets of soldiers. Some had surrendered, others refused and held on tooth and nail to the fight against the new monarchy. A trio of soldiers came around the corner, their rifles blasting deadly sprays of fire. James easily twisted out of the way, springing at the nearest one. His fist stretched out towards the man’s throat, a vibrodagger shot from his wrist, tearing into the fleshy meat of his throat. Blood squirt out onto James’ armor and visor. He grabbed the man’s shirt, using his body as a human shield against a fresh barrage of blaster fire. A quick flick from his rifle butt shattered the skull of another soldier. The third began to falter away, his eyes full of fear. James felt it through the Force, and he enjoyed it, it stroked his blood lust as he twisted on his heel, letting the blade on his arm carve a wicked gash through his stomach. The soldier fell face first into his own gore, his life flickered out slowly as James watched.

NOW

The spacer ran his hand through his hair. The soldiers had been boys. Probably just farmers looking for a better life. He had killed them without mercy, it was a horrible thing, and he was sickened by it. He took a pull from swill they called hard spirits around here before crashing into his bed, hoping that tonight he would get a good night’s rest. A hope he was sure would not be satisfied.

Kay had been doing whatever she could to help with running the Free Colonies. It was a good thing that she liked to travel. A lot of her time had been spent going from planet to planet to planet in the Outer Rim and getting more contracts with other worlds that would soon join them. At least now she had her own ship to travel in for it, as well as a great pilot. He was beyond his prime, an old space dog, but he was entertaining and witty to say the least. It was almost a stress relief to have arguments with him.

Yet now she was trying to find her brother, [member="James Justice"] . Maybe they were both too busy, but she hadn't heard from him in a long while. Or maybe he was mad because of her habit of finding herself in deep trouble. Either way, her messages to him went unanswered. So she sent wordto [member="Gray Raxis"] and [member="Stardust"] that she was looking for him and wondered if they had heard word at all.

Stardust had been quite busy.... After taking imhalyan she got her own company not to mention shed been running around working mining to what seemed to be non stop, however she didn't complain

That was..until she realized that @jame justice hadn't contacted her...he was there when she was crowned then after that just...poofed away she assumed at first that he was just busy but after a few months... She started to worry and it only confirmed her worry's when [member="Lady Kay"] messaged her...shed assumed James would keep in contact with his sister but...now hearing he hasn't she sent a message to Kay"get to the Justice shipping building on soresas...I hink something is wrong

Kay frowned when she saw the message from [member="Stardust"] . It wasn't what she was hoping for. Something must be very wrong. She picked up her commlink and spoke into it. "Terrac...We're heading to Soresas, more specifically the Justice Shipping building. Let's get there as quick as we can."

"Oh sure, just when I was about to have a nap."

"You can nap when we get there. So the quicker we arrive, the quicker you can sleep."

"Right. I'll believe that when it happens, doll. You just can't keep your nose out of trouble..."

"That's not my fault."

"Right. Sure. Hang on, we'll be going to lightspeed quicker than you can pour a cup of tea."

Kay smirked and braced herself for the jump after giving Star a quick message to let her know that they were enroute. It could be that [member="James Justice"] and her both can't stay out of trouble.

THEN
Screams. Screams of pain. The blood soaked down James' body dripped from his clothing. The blade in James' hand came down in a cruel arc. Another spray of blood washed across his face and clothes as the farmboy turned soldier fell in a dying heap. An artillery shell screamed through the air before landing just outside the doorway into the military base. The ground rocked as dirt and shrapnel sprayed around. James rose to his feet unsteadily from his hiding place and began sprinting, closing the ground between him and the next hardpoint--an E-Web blaster turret that had killed every soldier to try and storm the base.

Adrenaline soared through his veins as James leaped over the sandbags to the heavy weapon. His leg twisted under his weight, and he struggled for balance, drawing on the Force for help. His hand grasped the turret, spinning it on its swivel to face the enemy, now under his command.

"Turret secure," he roared as his forefinger depressed the trigger.

NOW.

"NOOOOO," James roared, sitting up from his sweat-soaked bed. "Nooooooo"

It took him several moments to come to his sense, for James to realize that he wasn't back in the war zone. He pulled himself from the bed, his feet touching the cold earthy flooring. The spacer quickly donned his leather jacket and worn holster before stepping out into the wilderland of Soceras. The air was fresh with the scent of the ocean, the forest stretched before him a few yards in, lush with green and life. The spacer grabbed his spear from the side of the door and went to find his next meal. He had been getting gradually better at it over the past several weeks, it wasn't long before James had speared half a dozen fish and had them roasting over a fire. He ate them with the zeal of a starving man, licking his fingers clean before rising and making his way towards the woods. He needed to find more firewood, and even more than that, remain busy enough to try and let the flashbacks stay out of his head.
