Dark Necessities are Part of my Design (Kahne)

Katarine was propped up on a pillow reading a datafile. The rickety cot she was on matched the décor of the room nicely in that it was bland, metal, white and void of any type of personalization. It was pretty much what you would expect from a psychiatric hospital, though Katarine certainly wasn’t what you would expect of a psychiatric patient. She wasn’t a danger to herself and beyond the fact that the woman had no idea how she had gotten in this galaxy she was perfectly healthy. Her doctors were blaming the amnesia on some type of hyperspace sickness, but she could tell they thought she was nuts. Honestly half the time she wondered if she was nuts. A lot of the faces in this galaxy were familiar, but they were completely different people than the ones she knew. The factions, the faces, the technology, it was all out of place to the thin green eyed girl.

A soft knock on the door revealed a kind faced blond nurse. “Kat? You have a visitor.”
“I do? Who? Nobody knows I am here.” Not to mention the fact that all the people she knew were in a different galaxy and time period.
“Well we ran your picture and asked if anybody knew who you were. This man showed up. He seems to know you. Would you like to see him?”
“Sure.” The Jedi shrugged and stood up, placing her data file on the bed. The nurse led her down a short hallway and into a visitor room with a small table, a café machine and a few chairs. Katarine took a seat as the nurse left to go get her mysterious visitor.

Amnesia, once such a thing plagued the Jedi Master.

That was quite some time ago, when the Jedi was spearheading several joint missions deep into sith territory. Thus the battles came then one in particular and that one was the one that changed everything. He lost several friends, many close to his heart.

The eyes of the Jedi Master were closed as he reminisced on times past, even the bad ones.

The woman spoke softly seemingly uncertain as not to disturb him. "Master Porte?"

The Jedi's eye opened and he turned to whom had spoken. "Yes."

"She's waiting in the visitors room, down the hall and first door on left."

"Thank you." The Jedi nodded and bowed slightly and moved past her towards the visitor room. Certain as to what he was going to find, every detail that was there seemed to fit her perfectly. Kahne remained hopeful as he always would and he peeked into the room just briefly and then fully stood in the doorway and moved forward a bit and took a seat on the opposite end of the table.

"Kat, do you know who I am?" The Jedi asked curiously.

Of all the people in the galaxy he was probably one of the last she would have expected. He had been a friend and always very kind to her. She remembered attacking him when she had a Sith running around in her mind and him only nursing her to health in repayment. He was one of the greats, the type of Jedi she wished she could be but couldn't quite pull it off. Of course she remembered him but the question was which him was it? Everyone in this galaxy seemed so different than she remembered.

She smiled at him and for perhaps the first time since she had been admitted to the ward the smile actually touched her deep green eyes.

"Master Porte. You aren't easily forgotten my friend. "

It was nice to see him even if she wasn't sure he was the same him.

"What brings you to my insanity?"

To see her in good spirits, that was something that pleased the Jedi Master.

The plus was that she remembered him. Which was an even bigger plus than he would have hoped for. "You are too kind, Master Ryiah....Kat." The Jedi smiled as held his hand out in a friendly gesture hoping to give her hand a small squeeze.

"I came to check on you, I was hoping you were okay. Also hoping to bring you back to the world."

Katarine took his hand and felt the warm presence of the lightside wash over her. His comment about the world made her smile a little nervously. “Well they say there isn’t really anything physically wrong with me but they aren’t so sure about my mind. The doctor claims it’s some variant of hyperspace sickness that causes false memories. But I don’t see why I can’t return to the world…. Except for the fact that I have no idea what’s going on in the galaxy. I guess all the memories I have are wrong. Or at least that’s what they tell me.”
Realizing she sounded crazy she let go of his hand and shifted in her chair. The last thing she wanted was to make a fool of herself in front of some legendary Jedi. Or at least he had been in her world. Who knows what he was here.

“Why don’t you tell me about the real galaxy?”
