Damsel not in Distress? Rescue her, anyway! (Mallisi)

Evard L'Rik

Evard smiled at Mallisi's comment about his hair. He raised an eyebrow and jokingly flipped his blonde bangs around.

"Mmm.. You can ask me any question you want. Nonsensical ones, especially. Those are the most fun to answer."

His smile got wider as she told him she was gonna be allowed in. He put a finger on her shoulder and ran it down her arm, leaning slightly on the couch.

"Maybe I should sneak in, anyway, just to mess with you and your stiff old masters. Hide in the kitchen, and scare the poor cook when he comes to open. Or maybe hide behind a statue or something, and just grab you as you pass."

At those words, he wrapped his arm around her again, and snuggled her up, or rather down a little, to his chest.

"Any questions?" A number came to mind, and she smiled, resting her head on his chest as she thought. "I don't know if I have any off of the top of my head. Or at least, nothing comes to mind. If there's anything you want to tell, I'd be happy to listen." Now she looked up at him, smiling again, an albeit curious look in her eyes. "And if you want to ask me anything, I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have as well. It's only fair, after the story you told me. But I'm not sure I have any that are so...eventful." That might have been a bad word to use, but she didn't want to bring it up any more than she had to.

The only tale that came to mind was mention of her sister, and the relationship they'd had before Mallisi left Natinati, the planet they'd been raised on together by their adopted parents, to leave the very Order she now belonged to. It wasn't something necessarily pleasant to bring up, but after his reaction to his own story, it was fair, as she'd mentioned. The only question was how she would begin the story, if at all. Their relationship as siblings had deteriorated even before she'd left, but that had sealed any divide between them.

"And if you decide to sneak in again, then that tour might happen early. There's a meditation chamber that my master showed me." Another smile. "It has a waterfall, and a bit of a forest. It's not quite like home for either of us, but it's beautiful, and I think you'd find it calming."

Evard's smile widened as Mallisi snuggled up against him. He returned her curious look with one of amusement.

"Eventful it was. Probably more eventful than I can say. Who knows what else happened, with me being possessed for half a year? All I know is the result, and the result is that I'm a half-dead guy with a couple of metal limbs, holding a cute girl. Good end to a crappy story, huh?"

He closed his eyes and leaned his head on top of Mallisi's, still smiling lightly.

"Not that I mind getting in trouble, but won't they do something if they find you walking around with an intruder?"

His last question gave her pause, and she let her eyes slide shut, gently tracing the top of his hand with her thumb, squeezing it gently. There was a suggestion she had in mind, but after having heard his opinions in regards to the Republic, not to mention the Jedi way of life, she wasn't sure how well he would take to the idea. But still, it was worth a try, if just to see what his initial thought would be. "You wouldn't have to be an intruder, per se." Here she paused, squeezing his hand again. "Not if you joined the Republic. You don't have to, but it's something to think about, at least. You'd be able to stop by without having to worry about sneaking into the Temple."

Mallisi gently toyed with his fingers, finding a calm comfort in his presence and close proximity. "I don't think I would have wanted it to end any other way, if it involves me being with you. The only thing I really have to tell you about is my older sister, but I'm not sure what exactly there is to say about her. Maybe you'll get to meet her, someday." What she didn't mention was that they hadn't seen each other in years, let alone actually caught up about what had been going on in their lives since her departure from home.

She smiled again. "I'm happy to be here with you, like this. I don't think I've had a chance to just...relax, even in the Temple. It's nice."

Evard smiled lightly at the feeling of Mallisi's fingers on his left hand, and just the surreal normality of the metal of his right arm being around somebody. It really had been too long since he'd been around other people. Or, rather, other living people, he corrected himself. At the mention of joining the Republic, he chuckled quietly in her ear. To her, it probably seemed like a good way to make sure they could be together more. To Evard, it seemed like fun.

"Maybe... I think me and this old bird could use the exercise. Blowing stuff up for freedom can be just as fun as blowing stuff up for fun. And I can come and cuddle with you like this when I get back from blowing things up. Sounds awesome. Sorry if I'm not all that patriotic, though."

He closed his eyes, and kissed Mallisi's cheek.

"I don't relax much, Mally-cat. Sort of an occupational hazard of having a Sith ghost trying to eat my soul. But as long as I can, I'll keep whatever anger I've got left directed at that lovely old sh*t in my head, and I'll just be happy with you. Sound good?"

The fact that he agreed so quickly came as a bit of a surprise to her, but it was a surprise that caused her smile to widen. Just the idea of having him close was enough to make her more than happy, and she turned her head to kiss him on the cheek as well, looking to him as best she could with her amber eyes, the same smile still on her face. "You'd have to make sure that I'm not training, but I'd be happy to. Maybe you'll be able to sit in on a few of our lessons, as well. It will be nice to have you around, Evard." Mallisi toyed with his fingers gently, sighing happily.

"It sounds like the perfect deal to me. But I don't want you to feel like you have to keep everything bottled up. I might not understand things, but I'll do my best to listen to anything you want to talk about. It's the least I can do." She shifted her position slightly, still keeping her head resting on his chest. She knew that she'd have to head back to her room soon, but for now she didn't want to think about that part of things.

Now she squeezed his hand again, glancing around the dining room for a moment before she spoke. "You did say you wanted to show me a few things you had hanging up in here. It isn't that I don't enjoy just sitting with you, because I do, but you seemed excited about what you had in here. It's quite an impressive collection, and a great variety of weapons. But I don't think you've gotten a look at things until you've been able to see the armory at the Temple. I think you might be able to, someday. When you get that tour of the grounds that I keep talking about."

It was good to have somebody listen to him for a while, and somebody who knew what was going on. Evard growled playfully and buried his face in Mallisi's hair, grinning like an idiot. At least he had somewhere they could be together. No matter what position he held with the Republic, there was no chance he'd ever feel welcome in the Jedi Temple. Returning the happy sigh, his voice went down to a whisper.

"It'll be nice to be around, Mally-cat. Even better that I might get to watch you dance around with sharp objects in your hands. Best of all that I have somebody to talk with, especially about what happened to me. The only reason I bottle up my anger is because it keeps me alive. Even if I myself am not actively so, there's always got to be some subconscious part of me that's angry with that old ghost. Otherwise, I will die. Eventually, maybe in a few years, I'll be able to relax my grip a bit. Then you'll see me how I was, hopefully."

He sighed, a little sadly, and let his hair fall over his new friend's shoulders.

"That's a long way off, though. But you're right, I forgot to show you all the crazy stuff I have. Such a lovely distraction I've got, though. It's too bad you've got to go back."

For a moment she just relaxed into him, smiling and shifting her position so that she could look at him, at least out of the corner of her eye. The feeling of being able to confide in someone, even if it was just one individual among the others at the Temple, was a nice feeling. But she would listen to him as well, even if that was all she could do in regards to whatever topic was bothering him. But sometimes, a kind ear was all that was necessary. She was aware of that just as well as anyone else.

"It just so happens that I like you just how you are, even if you might not. You might have to bottle up some of your anger to keep this Sith Lord at bay, but the rest of it I'll be happy to help you deal with. It's what I'm here for, other than letting you watch me dance around with those sharp objects of yours." Mallisi smiled again. "Maybe you'll get to take me on a few of those adventures you were talking about once I'm Knighted. I won't have to stay here at the Academy, and I'll be able to leave without an escort, so we should be free to travel." She tilted her head. "Until, I suppose, I get a Padawan of my own."

At his mention of her having to return soon, she traced the top of his hand with her thumb. "Soon, maybe, but I think we have a few more minutes, if you still want to show me one or two things."

Evard grinned back at Mallisi as she relaxed in his arms. He relaxed, too, muscles relaxing in places he hadn't even realized were tense. Despite his last statement, he felt totally calm and happy with this Cathar girl in his arms, talking to him like this. He hadn't realized how much he needed somebody to confide his story to, or how much he needed a girl who was willing to deal with him the way he was. He had exactly who he needed, and he was perfectly content to sit here with her forever.

"Liking me how I am is a first, and certainly an actual offer to help is. But that's not what I care about right now... I wanna take you out to have fun before you're Knighted. There are apprentices all over the place who aren't actually confined to their temples, and certainly aren't chaperoned. You allowed to walk around Ossus, at least? So many fun places to go, if you know 'em."

He thought about actually getting up from how they were entwined and looking at each other, and he shook his head.

"Another time, maybe, Mally-cat... For now, let's just stay like this for a while. I'm enjoying it more than I'd enjoy showing you around, really. We can just... hold on until it's time for you to go back."
