Intent: To create a batch of beskar pellets for use in [member="Laguz Vald"]'s Verpine Shattergun

Development Thread: Mining thread, Thread where Rusty learns to work with beskar

Manufacturer: Rusty's Custom Firearms and Cutlery

Model: N/A

Affiliation: N/A

Modularity: No

Production: Production: Unique (single batch of 1000)

Material: Beskar

Description: The only thing that sets these pellets apart from traditional shattergun ammo is the use of beskar in construction. Normal firearms would be unable to fire beskar projectiles without extensive modifications or trickery with the ammo, but shatterguns are unique in that they don't rely on rifling to impart spin and thus accuracy. Instead, they use grav coils to hurl rounds at such high speeds that little things like air resistance don't come into play. They brute force their way to the target, and are usually smoothbore. No rifling means the projectiles don't necessarily have to be soft enough to catch it, and thus can be made of nontraditional materials. Like, say, beskar.

Making the pellets out of Mandalorian Iron has a few distinct advantages over traditional pellets. The first and most obvious is the fact that they can survive extended contact with a lightsaber blade. While further testing will be necessary to determine exactly how the two would react, the basic pellets travel so quickly that blocking one is nearly impossible, even with a Jedi's reflexes. That's not to say it couldn't be done, but Rusty would really recommend against trying.

The primary advantage to using beskar pellets is the increased armor piercing capability. Though the pellets are small, they're incredibly dense and travel and blistering speeds, and that force is focused on a tiny area. They should be able to penetrate even heavy personal armor with relative ease, though the manufacturer recommendations are that the shooter not try such a feat beyond 250 meters. At ranges of under 100 meters, there's a chance the pellets will penetrate medium vehicle armor. However, doing so in either instance will require a near perpendicular strike. A glancing blow will result in the pellet deflecting, which brings us to the primary drawback.

If the pellets fail to penetrate the target, or are deflected through arcane means, they will still carry considerable velocity, and will bounce violently until either they hit something soft enough to absorb the kinetic energy or they run out of it on their own. This situation is extremely hazardous for all involved. At close range, it's not impossible, or even unlikely, that a careless shot could come back and injure or kill the shooter.

Use on spaceships is also highly discouraged, as you're going to get one of two results: either the pellet will puncture the hull, or it will bounce around like a little pinball of doom. Either situation is extremely dangerous, and they are to be avoided at all costs. Failure to heed this advice will void any warranty on the product, and earn a stiff slap upside the head from Rusty.
