Strengths:
  • Escort/Expeditionary Vessel: The Custodian can launch deep expeditions into the Unknown to hunt down alien technology to be studied and adapted. The Starship can locate new worlds and observe their mysterious inhabitants; discovering and charting Hyperlanes and other spatial anomalies; and can analyze and perform preliminary research on gathered information, technology, and debris. In addition to the aforementioned qualities, the Systems Patrol Frigate can survive a myriad of hostile encounters during its expeditions and act in support of the other starships that may set out with this one of a kind vessel.
Weaknesses:
  • Low Armament: Though under-armed when compared to the other escorts within the frigate classification, the Custodian's diverse selection of weapons can combat the threat of smaller vessels, but do little more than act as an irritant should the Captain of the Custodian engage anything larger than a Cruiser. The weapons are meant to dissuade pirates, defend the vessel from the various astronavigational hazards populating the obsidian ocean, and supplement the weapons of sizable, and more heavily armed ships - should the Custodian be required for combat.

Description: The Custodian-Class Systems Patrol Frigate is a combat-capable Starship produced by the Republic Engineering Corporation that was designed with several compatible philosophies in mind. While this vessel is one of a kind, the Custodian Class was primarily intended to operate independently of larger fleet formations, but can - at times - fulfill the role of an Escort Frigate; able to perform a myriad of mission profiles, including anti-starfighter screening, close-line fire support, and reconnaissance. Secondary functions aside, the Systems Patrol Frigate is first, and foremost an Expeditionary vessel, able to sail through the void between stars with ease and push back the unknowable frontier for years at a time without the need for consistent resupply runs.

While the Vessel boasts a well-rounded assortment of offensive and defensive weapons, it has been considered to be significantly under armed when compared to various Starships within the Frigate classification. As aggression was not one of the intents the technicians at REC were concerned with, they were able to expand upon the utilitarian aspects of the craft instead, leading towards advancements in the medical, scientific, and integration of an additional Hangar bay. That being said, once the main focus of their design had been met, they were able to divert much of the remaining power from the primary reactor to supply the plethora of small arms dotting the Frigate's surface. All with the hope that they'll be able to keep this Exploratory vessel safe from harm; be they malicious Outer Rim Pirates or Hazardous Astronavigational Anomalies. Whilst the exterior was protected, the final phase of the Custodian's design was the implementation of an internal automated defense network; that would activate when the ship was breached by hostile forces. Retractable auto turrets were fitted into key junctions throughout the entirety of the vessel, providing the crew with an additional source of firepower to repel unwanted persons of interest, or fight back against a containment breach.

Characteristics: Unlike many vessels that have been produced by the REC in the past, the Custodian's prototypical design is that of a rounded, ancient arrowhead. The dorsal surface of the vessel is marginally smooth and was designed to be aesthetically pleasing to the eye, while much of the ventral surface had taken on a more blocky shape, typical among many starships from the Core Worlds. It was on the underbelly that the stern-mounted drive units could be found, mainly housing the six engines and their armored husks. As most vessels that matched the Custodian's size called for a large crew count, with the advancements in automation and streamlined processes, the System Patrol Frigate can operate at its maximum potential with a full complement of Two hundred and Fifty Living souls, and an onboard garrison of rigidly programmed automatons. In addition to the crew, there was enough room within the Crew Quarters to house a small company of Marines for defense, should the vessel ever find itself boarded by foreign entities.

As the Voidfaring Ship was markedly shorter than several other starships within the frigate classification, the Custodian suffered from a notably smaller Cargo Bay - with much of its previous carrying capacity being sacrificed to ferry a larger selection of transports and surface-based vehicles within its holds. Though lightly armed, the Custodian's internal deflector shield projectors were able to offer a similar barrier strength as the more heavily armed variants within the Frigate classification. Combined with a thick metallic skin, the prototypical Custodian would be able to withstand more punishment in combat, should the craft be yoked to such a purpose, or weather the storm of dangerous astronavigational hazards frequently dotting the bespeckled void. With much of the systems covered by redundant fail safes and armor-plating, the technicians at the Republic Engineering Corporation saw fit to install a generous Electronic Countermeasures (ECM) package, which would see the inclusion of Anti-Electronic Warfare/ Slicing Protocols, into the Custodian's array of defensive capabilities. This digital packet would be the first line of defense against foreign warheads and guided projectiles, as well as prospective Slicers that managed to board the Vessel. Similar to the MDT's of yore, the Systems Patrol Frigate would utilize it's transmitter arrays to detect the guidance frequencies of hostile warheads. Once such data is obtained, the system would then transmit a signal burst in the hopes of disabling the projectile long before it enters the range of the Point Defense Weaponry.

I've gone ahead and added a paragraph for each item, surmising briefly what I had in mind regarding what those two features were capable of. In addition, as I believe my explanation made them somewhat specialized features, I've taken the liberty of expanding the Special Features section and adding some clarification into the defenses section.

Hopefully that's what you were looking for. :)
