Name: Creia Xiao
Loyalties: GUIDE
Role: Pathfinder Trainer

Development Threads: N/A

Age: 43
Species: Human {Atrisian Descent}

Appearance: Relatively unremarkable, Creia Xiao is of average height and athletic build. With a mostly shaved head and a muscular physique even in her armor she has been called intimidating and manly by her male students. She also proudly displays the scar down her neck where a Starweird almost took her life. She also bears tattoos resembling those from the various criminal organizations of Atrisia, a green and red serpent down her back.

Personality: Despite her rough training and poor upbringing Creia is not a hard-ass and is in fact a very happy go lucky spirit. It is as if the spirit of exploration resides in her. Because of this she puts all her experience and all of her feelings into training new GUIDE Pathfinders. Creia is also affectionately called Mum by many of the younger GUIDE Pathfinders (as most Pathfinders actually never learned under her as she is relatively new in her position).

Force Sensitivity: No

Weapon of Choice: Blaster Pistol

Skills:
  • Map Making
  • Map Reading
  • Survival Skills
  • Military Training
  • Shooting
  • Navigation
  • Astrogation
  • Language Learning {Knows or understands a dozen languages fluently}
Speaks:

  • Basic

  • Atrisian

  • Mando'a

  • Rodian

  • Huttesse

  • Bothese

  • Dressellese

  • Twi'leki

  • Togruti

  • Yuuzhan Vong
Understands:

  • Binary

  • Shyriiwook

  • Tusken

  • Arenzebite Language

Wealth: While not personally wealthy, she does make a good living for herself. Her room and board is mostly paid for due to the fact that she lives on the Beacon of Broadcast, GUIDE's mobile HQ.

Combat Function: As she was trained as a Stormtrooper for the Atrisian military her combat functions are variable. She can function as a sniper, assault trooper or even simply a guard. However, as GUIDE is a non-militant group most of her "function" would be escape and evasion from the critters of the Galaxy.

Notable Possessions: Husband's wedding band.

History: Trained as an Atrisian Stormtrooper for the Atrisian Empire, Creia lived most of her pre-military life on her homeworld of Atrisia. She grew up poor but through perseverance and a little luck was able to apply to and get in to the Atrisian Naval Academy where she trained for several years before becoming a Stormtrooper. She served her planet faithfully for years, traveling across the Galaxy in skirmishes and small wars as for a time the Atrisian Empire were allies with the Republic. However when the Royal Family began to crumble from Sith influence she along with several other Stormtroopers fled the ensuing Civil War. They became mercenaries, fighting for whoever paid the most credits. At times it was the Republic, others the Sith Empire or Omega Protectorate, forcing her to learn several languages. Eventually the small band of Stormtroopers gone Mercenary left just her with the others either dead or retired. But she couldn't get enough of exploring the Galaxy. She always wanted to know more, and so she hung up her armor and began her life as a Spacer. With her knack for learning languages she was easily able to traverse even the most remote worlds.

She partied on Zeltros, arm wrestled a Mandalorian in Keldabe, hunted in the Shadowlands and dove deep beneath the frozen Oceans of Arenzeb. Eventually the explorer was approached via Holomail pondering if she wanted a job doing what she loved. She took it immediately and never looked back. Joining GUIDE was the best thing that could have happened to her. There she met her husband, started a family of explorers and all was well. Unfortunately her exploring days were cut short when during Hyperspace her ship was attacked by Starweirds. Her family was slaughtered and she was barely left alive. The details were kept under wraps by GUIDE so as not to put their growing numbers at risk, but Lea told anyone who asked to the dismay of certain shareholders. She lost both her legs in the attack as well as her family and decided it was time to put down the map.

Before she could leave though she was offered a new position. Senior GUIDE Pathfinder. She was to train the growing number of Pathfinders and keep track loosely of the Pathfinders deployed. She mostly stayed on the Beacon of Broadcast, GUIDE's flagship and mobile HQ, but sometimes she finds herself giving guest lectures at the Levantine Astronautical Academy and Coruscant University. As a gift to a dear friend Magdalena herself commissioned a pair of sturdy cybernetic legs so that Creia could return to the field. Having grown comfortable in her new role she does spend a lot of time on the Beacon of Broadcast, but will venture off the ship to accompany Magda on field missions.

Intent: To create an interesting character for the members of GUIDE to interact with/learn from

Hey there! I'll be your initial judge for this submission, so let's get started!

Loyalties: GUIDE
Please provide a link to the information on GUIDE if it is a faction or company on this board. If it is not, please expound upon this in the history of the submission so that someone viewing this NPC will know what GUIDE is.

Why does she have these tattoos? It never says anywhere the reason behind them. Was she somehow involved in these criminal organizations at some point? Please expound upon the reasoning for this, as these tattoos would probably signify some sort of criminal involvement.

  • Map Making
For the sake of expansion, what kind of maps are we talking about here? Making a holographic map would require the ability to use technology in a decent capacity, whereas flimsi maps could be crude or could be extremely detailed. Her level of skill in creating these maps (I get the feeling they are starcharts the likes of which we see in TFA), is important to note.

  • Language Learning {Knows or understands Several Dozen Languages fluently}
Could you please provide a list of what languages she knows and cut back on the number? Several dozen is quite a lot and would require an extensive amount of training, even for someone who can easily learn languages. I'd say 5 languages would be a reasonable number. If you want to go higher I'll require a dev thread of at least 10 posts depending on how many you want her to know.

Please provide a link to the Starweirds article on wookieepedia for ease of reference. Most people won't know what they are.

If she lost both of her legs in the Starweird attack, it's unlikely she could function as an assault trooper or a guard anymore. Her combat function should reflect the fact that she is now handicapped.

As far as the handicap goes, is she now confined to a chair or has she received cybernetic legs to replace the lost ones? This would be important to know. If she's confined to a chair it would be hard for her to maintain her muscular physique, subsequently meaning that the males would have less reason to be intimidated by her.

That should be it for now. Please let me know when you've made changes or if you have questions.

She just liked the tat. I was just following orders!

Edited; I completely forgot to add that in. My brain just assumed people would assume she had cybernetic legs with it being SW and the picture and all. Edited

Edited: Both, she is the head Pathfinder after all

I would agree under normal earth circumstances, but this is SW where there are as many languages as there are species (which we don't actually know the number of) 12 seems pretty tame especially

I do not see where the submission was edited to reflect these facts. Though the information does clear up my comment on her combat role, it does need to be added to the submission. Additionally, I want to know how she learned to make these maps. That's going to take time, and the history needs to reflect the time spent learning to do so. At her age, and with a history of being a stormtrooper and a mercenary, a good idea might be to lay out what ages she stopped and started things. This will help with the below comment as well.

I can live with twelve as long as you add some information in her history as to how she learned these languages. Right now your history doesn't reflect her being a linguist.

Please also list out every language that she knows and whether she can speak them, understand them, write them, or any combination of those.

She also needs some other weakness since having robotic legs isn't really a weakness.

EDITED: Made mostly small tweaks to her bio

As a gift to a dear friend Magdalena herself commissioned a pair of sturdy cybernetic legs so that Creia could return to the field.

They became mercenaries, fighting for whoever paid the most credits. At times it was the Republic, others the Sith Empire or Omega Protectorate, forcing her to learn several languages.

(this was already in here implying she was well traveled and well spoken)
She partied on Zeltros, arm wrestled a Mandalorian in Keldabe, hunted in the Shadowlands and dove deep beneath the frozen Oceans of Arenzeb.

I'd still like to see her age increased by at least 5 years, and the map making updated to reflect that she makes holo and regular maps.

Also under the skills remove the part about her knowing SEVERAL dozen. It's unnecessary since you're listing the languages she knows, and she only knows a dozen, anyway.

That's it for now. Let me know when done.

Increasing her age was never discussed(?) And that's a hard line no. She's already "old" for what she does, heck she's older than most of the characters on Chaos already who are "Masters" and "Leaders" in their fields/governments/militaries. So sorry if anything I would make her younger.

This was left as is purposefully because there are more maps than Flimsi and Star Charts (ancient maps done on stone come to mind...) and leaving it as Map reading and map making leave it vague enough yet specific enough for a general use skill.

I hardly think 48 would be old for a mapmaker and NPC who lives on a ship most of the time. You could be 80 and still do that. But, it seems I confused myself on the age bit. Originally I had planned to stipulate an age increase of 5 years, but I seem to have edited that out of my prior responses, so my bad on that.

However, I'm still asking you to stipulate what kinds of maps she can make within the confines of the submission. This is not unreasonable. The reading part doesn't need expounded upon, just the making. It's a reference to her skill in the matter as writing on flimsi is easy compared to making a holomap/star chart, which she would have to learn to do. NOW, if she is capable of that, I am mandating an age increase of at least 3 years to reflect her learning all of the technology and technique associated with such.

Just archive this. Considering both the Codex and Factory are optional parts of the site I'm just gonna throw this in a blog its not worth the headache at this point in my life.

I am going to override my (new) Judge here. This submission is more than passable and acceptable by Codex standards. In many areas it exceeds normal requirements. The learning curve for my new Judges notwithstanding, please keep any future discourse civil.

Approved.
