Description: As part of Abrion’s ever expanding arsenal of advanced technology designed to protect troops from aerial strikes on the battlefield, they sought a contractor to provide something new. The requirement was for a mobile weapons system that could defend troops from incoming rockets, artillery and missiles.

Hoersch Kessel won a competitive tender, aiming to utilise technology deployed to their escort vessels designed to neutralise enemy ordnance and fighter craft. After several months of design work, they scrapped the primary point defense weapons, seeing them as too large, bulky and requiring too much power, and started to work on something else. Eventually they contracted Ty'rel Holdings to provide the platform, who suggested that the composite beam canon previously used on their Spider Droids (from the Baktoid days).

It was found that the originally spider droid, whilst antiquated by current standards was an exceptionally cost effective platform. They recreated several prototypes, using sensor tech supplier by HKD.

Each of these new CRAM spiders constantly scans the skies for threats. If anything is detected, from a 50mm mortar round upwards, it will broadcast an alarm through comms or loud speakers. This gives infantry several seconds to take cover.

The droid will then lock onto and track the incoming projectile and fire its single composite beam canon. This laser beam maintains coherence out to a kilometre and will shoot down projectiles before they can cause significant damage. The laser beam will fire continuously whilst being tracked with remarkably accuracy to destroy the targets. If there are further CRAM Spiders, or F5 Bucklers in the vicinity, they can combine sensor input to provide even greater accuracy.

The Spider’s four legs are able to find a solid footing from which to fire on nearly any terrain, meaning it can follow infantry into many situations. Unfortunately the weapon is not designed to take on significant armour. This vehicle is essentially useless against any ground based threats. It has light armour for its size, but can still take a fair amount of light arms fire before being destroyed. Laser cannons or rockets would make short work of it, so they should be kept back from the front lines.

Combined with the F5 Buckler, and Hunter-Killer drone, this vehicle gives the Abrion military an incredibly balanced and effective air defence shield that can deal with nearly any threat to its ground forces.

I don't know how I feel about something weighing 10,000kg moving via mechanical legs at a speed of 60km/h. An Elephant for example weighs roughly the same and can only move about 17km/h. On that same notion, I would venture to say something weighing 10,000kg on a heavy incline would be rather unstable unless it has some other way of securing itself on difficult terrain.
