SPECIAL FEATURES

Strengths:

  • Flak: Built as a flak cannon, the Covenator can put out up to tens of thousands of shrapnel faster than other anti-air guns of its kind.
Weaknesses:

  • Design: Ineffective against capital ships, meant to take out starfighters/missiles.

  • Range: While it can reach ranges beyond what is considered standard for long-range, it does so ineffectively due to the timed fuzes. Nor can the Covenator fire effectively within standard combat range as the timed fuzes either go off near friendlies or take too long to go off.
DESCRIPTION
The Covenator is part of a new line of flak cannons from Primo Victorian. Built with the traditional Primo Victorian ionization field that can be enabled or disabled by the crew. The cannon is also built with compensators to reduce overall recoil. Moving away from Aurora Industries’ Saiber power crystals, Chief of Operations Ryssa Yvarro set about creating the crystal matrix chamber that houses Boreas and Energy crystals to not only pull heat away from critical components but provide power to the weapon itself. Meaning the weapon does not draw nearly the amount of power it would otherwise. This creates less stress on power generators/engines that would traditionally be responsible for providing full power to the weapon.

The flak cannon fires 94mm rounds with twin drive bands, smooth bands reducing the overall resistance the shells face as they launch through the cannon. The shells are built with a timer set to forty-three seconds, and while the number seems quite specific. This proved to be the optimal time for the shell to hit at long-range creating clouds of shrapnel that make traversing through their radius quite hazardous for starfighters.

Due to the design of the cannon it’s not meant to punch a hole in much of anything but rather are designed to disrupt starfighters, and maybe missiles should they pass through the shrapnel. The Covenator while perhaps capable of landing shots beyond long-range, it does not do so effectively. Nor can it be fired in standard range for similar reasons, in addition to creating a higher risk of hitting friendlies.


In conclusion, the Covenator introduces a new use for mass driver cannon technology while broadening Primo Victorian’s choice of anti-air weapons.
